I dont know why the focus is on Devin Gardner. We have to pretty good guys. (Though I like Forcier more.) The focus needs to be on guys who are going to come in and help this porous defense. Mike Williams, Ezeh, and Jonas Mouton were all 4-star recruits and they were awful last year. How is Will Campbell progressing? RR has people who can run and catch the ball. The defense is where the most pressing question marks are.

Define a true spread offense..you can't really. Troy Smith was in a true spread most of his career..what are some key differences between Rich Rod's spread and the others that have done well in the Big Ten. Illinois was doing just fine until they abandoned the spread option. It's common knowledge that Tressel met with RR to learn the read option when he had Troy Smith. Northwestern has had good seasons running the spread with inferior talent to a school like Michigan...
Purdue of course has had relatively good success running a more "west coast" type of spread (basketball on grass) that has a lot of it's roots in the run and shoot passing game, which is a big part of what RR uses in his passing scheme. I forgot to mention that Penn State was a spread option team when they had Mike Robinson at QB. I'm not really sure why people assume that Rich's offense is the problem or that it "won't work in the Big Ten" other than they are simply repeating misinformation..
The Big Ten is stereotyped as a big plodding conference with BIG olineman, and BIG defenses. That stereotype is often simply not the case. The Big Ten has athletes and the SEC has size..it's just an image that the fans and media project IMO. Now if your answer is look at the results..3-9 and 5-7..which is what some point to, then my response would have to be this..Certainly you aren't that short-sighted. 2008 offense didn't tell us jack shit about the spread because Threet and Sheridan aren't spread QBS. In fact they both sucked period! Back to my point, 2009 is the only thing we can truly gauge the system by. A true freshman QB surrounded by young guys and clearly improved numbers and play over 2008. I don't know about you but I would project that offense to get better and better with experience but maybe that is just me. Have some objectivity about this. Young QBs usually=TOs+Bad D=losing

I know they're trying to hype this up, the most important factor is trying to have a winning season. Being a big UM fan I'm not sold on the way Rich Rod had handled things with the past two seasons being losing seasons. First off the spread offense will not work against other teams in the Big Ten which work with the man to man offense, just look at the way OSU and Penn State had their share of winning seasons. I rather see them back under Lloyd Carr, the true understudy of the late great Bo.
The spread offense is the best offense there is in college football. It contains OSU and PSU's entire offense within it's playbook.
Also, think about the fact that Michigan has only had freshman and walk-ons running it. We have basically seen the WORST this offense can do and not the best. By the end of 2011 we'll have an offense that is as good as ANY under Lloyd Carr. The D is my only concern

I dont know why the focus is on Devin Gardner. We have to pretty good guys. (Though I like Forcier more.) The focus needs to be on guys who are going to come in and help this porous defense. Mike Williams, Ezeh, and Jonas Mouton were all 4-star recruits and they were awful last year. How is Will Campbell progressing? RR has people who can run and catch the ball. The defense is where the most pressing question marks are.

Troy Smith was in a true spread most of his career..what are some key differences between Rich Rod's spread and the others that have done well in the Big Ten. Illinois was doing just fine until they abandoned the spread option. It's common knowledge that Tressel met with RR to learn the read option when he had Troy Smith. Northwestern has had good seasons running the spread with inferior talent to a school like Michigan...

Purdue of course has had relatively good success running a more "west coast" type of spread (basketball on grass) that has a lot of it's roots in the run and shoot passing game, which is a big part of what RR uses in his passing scheme. I forgot to mention that Penn State was a spread option team when they had Mike Robinson at QB. I'm not really sure why people assume that Rich's offense is the problem or that it "won't work in the Big Ten" other than they are simply repeating misinformation..

2008 offense didn't tell us jack shit about the spread because Threet and Sheridan aren't spread QBS. In fact they both sucked period! Back to my point, 2009 is the only thing we can truly gauge the system by. A true freshman QB surrounded by young guys and clearly improved numbers and play over 2008. I don't know about you but I would project that offense to get better and better with experience but maybe that is just me. Have some objectivity about this. Young QBs usually=TOs+Bad D=losing

I know they're trying to hype this up, the most important factor is trying to have a winning season. Being a big UM fan I'm not sold on the way Rich Rod had handled things with the past two seasons being losing seasons. First off the spread offense will not work against other teams in the Big Ten which work with the man to man offense, just look at the way OSU and Penn State had their share of winning seasons. I rather see them back under Lloyd Carr, the true understudy of the late great Bo.

The spread offense is the best offense there is in college football. It contains OSU and PSU's entire offense within it's playbook.
Also, think about the fact that Michigan has only had freshman and walk-ons running it. We have basically seen the WORST this offense can do and not the best. By the end of 2011 we'll have an offense that is as good as ANY under Lloyd Carr. The D is my only concern
