We realized during that lightning was bad and the possibility of a tornado was BAD. We, however, did not put much immediate thought to all the other big things, but we made sure none of us got any of that water near our mouths or faces, that would be bad news for sure.

In 1984 we had a terrible flood at night. There is NOT anything funny about it. People died. One woman was pulled down through the stormwater system through a manhole. It;d be fun to swim in if it wasn't sewage back up. I was waiting on the edge of the flood trying to get into my apartment building. It stuck out there and another storm was coming behind that one. I just ran through the water into my building to the third floor, stripped off my filthy clothes and had to take a shower in cold water as our water heater was knocked out.

We just had flooding the week before. I guess we get monsoons here now

For all the "shit is coming out of the sewers" comments, in older cities like Boston, that's definitely a concern since the sewage and rain systems are combined. But many places have completely separate systems so the rain backing up wouldn't have shit in it.

Yes, the power will stay on until the water gets up to the height of the breaker boxes in the buildings.  Then they will short out.
