you people are ridiculous. LOL at the guy who says that we have to ban alcohol if we ban heroin. You are pulling at straws, trying to make Ron Paul's statement sound reasonable when it's obvious he is bat shit.
I agree with this, instead of incarceration, heroin users should be rehabilitated. Prosecuting them for doing something to their own body is over the line, and does not fix the problem.
People are going to do heroine are going to do it wether it's legal or not it is their choice not yours. You don't need to do it if you don't want to.. lol
both state & federal is corrupt. leave it to the people. federal government and president should enforce what is basic rights. money is not something to be an issue. a female can sleep with a sozen different man every night as long as it is free but if she asked for money all of a suddent that same act becomes illegal. that is not freedom. also locking people in jail for using natural drugs is not freedom. charging hundreds for a drug produced for pennies by the drug profiteers is what is illgal
I doubt very much that any state would legalize heroine, maybe the guy that posted this vid needs to understand Ron Paul policies and know the difference between legalizing drugs and state laws
@mojofortherepublic you need to be aware, you probably are aware but is an employee or get funding by the criminals in government. facts here are such; most people who die or get harmed from drugs are using prescribed medications. most addictions are of pain pills, mood enhancers & other feel good prescribed meds & other medicines for many diseases that kill millions every year, way more than all the illegal drug use combined including the criminals who kill & rob for $ to buy drugs. so wake up.
If Ron Paul were President, there is no way heroin would be legalized anyway. Just like if he were President, there is no way the Civil Rights Act would get repealed like he wants. (Thank God) That said, Ron Paul is still better than Romney, Obama, Gingrich, and >cringe< Santorum. We need to cut a shitload of government spending. Both military and entitlements. Ron Paul is the only candidate that will balance the budget. Vote Ron Paul. Please join us.
the only states that MIGHT,legalize it would be,CA and NV. prostitution IS legal in NV,but no one ever complains about that.the war on drugs in america is a freaking joke.if it was left to the states,no one would ever vote to legalize it.ron paul NEVER said legalize them,he said leave it to the states. states rights, what its all about. ron paul is THE ONLY choice. thje rest are nwo shills, plain and simple.
legalizing all drugs would be better than the cartels robbing billions out of our country, murdering innocent people, and then incarcerating addicts turning them into a criminal class to fuel one of America's top businesses - the prison system.
Point blank, if heroin, crack and everything else were legal, and you decided to use it, then you DESERVE what you've got coming to you. One positive thing that would come from the legalization of heroin is that it would kill off all of the idiots who would be interested in taking these kinds of drugs. I don't see how that could be a bad thing, frankly.
well, its highly addictive, and humans by nature are stupid enough to cave into the temptation to abuse it, and once youre on it, its kind of tough to backtrack so youll eventually end up in rehab which will create a government entitlement program to unscrew the ones who have abused it, thats more wasted tax dollars. i dont see why heroine wouldnt be illegal. i sincerely beleive that if the choice is available to us, many of us wont exercise our freedom properly.
@aeorta1 what about the money the cartels drain out of our economy? addicts end up in prisons now anyway, maybe if they got real help they would stay out. some people misuse their first amendment rights to promote racism, hatred, and all kinds of evil things. should we get rid of the 1st amendment because some don't excercise it "properly". who decides what is "properly" anyway?
@colburnpclark if were talking about money leaving our country, thats a compromise im willing to make personally. id rather they had to go through hell selling it illegally than be driving down the highway and see a giant billboard for heroine. pot is a different story, its really not any more dangerous than alcohol, but heroine? i mean damn dude. did you just compare the hypothetical right to use heroine to the first amendment? i think im going insane.
@Meex1989 i highly doubt that, there are plenty of people i know who would probably cave into the temptation to use and abuse it if they didnt have to go to the trouble of finding a dealer illegally. true, we havent eliminated it, but we have made it signifigantly harder to access. id personally like to keep it that way.
@aeorta1 If we tried hard enough we could do the same with alcohol. It's just a bad idea. If your life is bad enough to use heroin, it's safe to say that you won't think about the law. We don't need to arrest drug users, they aren't criminals, just like people who attempt suicide.
On this, democrat is SO hypocritical--- they MADE TOBACCO worst drug on planet whle supporting Ritalin, lol! Democrat "Smoke Ban" 1965 WIPED OUT 450,000 tobacco farms, most in N. Carolina, (larger than some countries) 2 create "New South" where yankee buys very property it devalued "cheap" (by misusing legal system 2 devalue the property--how they "Got" the land). Marx said "Follow th Money" So: Why can't democrats? & connect Tobacco debacle to defaming of southerners in media. hypocrits
Yes sir. And people like us have to continue to show what he's really about so that they can make the right choice. Ron Paul will be a great president, and we will set a good example for the world by electing him.
@DonPaulPro So you think we should continue prohibition even alcohol kills ten times more people than every other illegal drug combined? I don't see how any logical person can be in favor of prohibition in any form, especially when it has been shown to cause more problems than it solves.
BTW If heroin and cocaine should be banned, so should alcohol and tobacco. So are you up for prohibition of the latter as well?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@FractalHolon Simply put, I disagree with Ron Paul. He says if Heroin was legalized more people would not try heroin. I disagree with his statement and not whether Heroin should be legal or not. I say that if heroin was legalized, more people would use it. It is simple economics.
@DonPaulPro Actually, over time less people would use it. If the prohibition of heroin ended, there might be a short term increase in it's use. But over time it will go down, as it has in other countries. You don't have a lot of evidence to back up your position. When prohibition turned to decriminalization in Spain, the number of heroin/hard drug use went down on all levels. When Holland de facto legalized pot, it's use went down too. In fact America > Spain and Holland in drug use and abuse.
@pluto4847 He will get rid of the income tax. I live in Canada and I'm quite jealous you guys have this hero in your country and he is so widely ignored, this will be such a sad time to reflect upon later in life should he not be elected.
@DonPaulPro No it isnt. Whenever things are prohibited, it becomes a forbidden fruit that people want to try. Listen to what he says, who the hell needs laws to protect them from heroin. Either youre going to do it or youre not. Now its pushed underground getting addicts into more trouble.
And on top of it, what youre missing from the debate is where he said the states would all probably keep it illegal still. Why do we need the federal government add a second layer?
@DonPaulPro , you dont know that. look at portugal and holland, they decriminalized drugs and overall drug use is lower, violence addiction is down too. The reason , punishment is counterproductive not olnly for the violenceaspect, and cost, but because of allowing a tyrannical government that punishing people for things that are not crimes.heroin. Dr Paul, says we should deal with it as a health issue, helping our communities on prevention, that actually would work better as it has elsewhere
@DonPaulPro: Fair point, but your question "Would this be good for the US?" presumes a negative response.
Given the sedative effects of Heroin, and its likely substitute relationship to Alcohol, I would suggest that it may very well be "good for the US" and its crime levels. Furthermore there would be tremendous benefit to the economy by bringing the entire illegal trade into the system. Not to mention the avoidance of violence and thousands of deaths caused by the (highly expensive) drug war.
@DonPaulPro Neither would most of us. Some maybe, but the states can still outlaw it under Paul's plan. Also, many people avoid getting help with their addictions because of potential legal problems. If it was legal, more people would be able to get help with addictions.
Plus, cartels and gangs would lose their major income source. Incarcerating non violent drug offenders increases their chances of doing worse drugs, and committing violent crime.
@DonPaulPro I have worked with a lot of heroin addicts, and some are my friends. I can tell you that outlawing it only compounds the problem. Treatment is key, and the prison systems don't do a good job at that. We need to rethink our solutions because it isn't working.
@theycantstopmenow This is not spam. The Health Recovery Center in Minnesota is one of 4 in the nation that treat addictions and emotional disorders with orthomolecular therapy. Success rate is 74%. Success for traditional therapy is 10%. If we put more of our money into specific programs like these as opposed to jails, then we would see a huge reversal in the rates of addiction and mental disorders and there would be little need for these onerous and draconian laws.
@DonPaulPro you are wrong, look at portugal and teh netherlands, the people who really want to do it are already doing it, maybe a few more peopple will try it, but FOR SURE there will be less adicts, besides you own your body. even if moe people will use it it would not be by much, and the uninteded comsnequences of incarceration corts etc, far outweight any negative consequences from legalizing
uh, at the end, what you typed is flat wrong. heroin is not legal, and people still use its "derivatives" however, you mean derivatives of opium. there aren't many derivatives of heroin, as heroin itself is a derivative of opium. and i totally agree with Ron. if they legalized heroin tomorrow, i would not rush out to get some. in fact, Oxycontin is perfectly legal. i have never even seen one of those, let alone wanted to try and use it to get high.
you are taking this out of context, he is simply stating that the federal government shouldn't regulate things like this, but that states should. this would save the fed gov money because then they wouldn't have to regulate it, have you heard we're in debt? and neither Ron Paul, or any intelligent person for that matter, would honestly think that any state would allow it to be legal. he says this clearly in the end of the clip, that you posted.
@stevesmith9595 No he doesn't. He does say the states should decide but he doesn't say outright that heroin should be illegal. @stevesmith9595 We might agree, but at the end of your last comment you said no intelligent person would think any state would allow it to be legal, so I thought you were trying to say that being against prohibition is un-intelligible.
