  • I tried it and it is so easy. Thanks so much for this!! Way to go scott...

  • Thanxx..gonna go try this out Rightt Now!! But i Love your Kitchen!!! :)

  • I guess this is as close to the one I'm used to eating =/ no one seems to put it together correctly.

  • I was born & raised in the South and I have always made banana pudding from scratch. I can't imagine it any other way. Thanks for the vid. It's NOT true banana pudding unless it's made from scratch.

  • hey :) great video :D

  • I thank you, thank you, thank you! You were the only one that I found so far that knows how to make an old fashion banana pudding the way my mom makes it. The kind that goes in the oven! I appreaciate this one, I didn't want to bother my mom because I wanted to surprise her.. Thanks again, because this is a real old fashion banana pudding!

  • Looks like a fantastic recipe. I'm Southern, and this is TRUE banana pudding just like my grandmother used to make.

  • what are vanilla wafers?

  • This guy knows what he is talking about and understands cooking. Mom owned two restaurants before I was born and was a great cook. I had no idea she was a great cook until I was an adult. There are very few great cooks. This guy knows the magic commonsense that escapes others... a little salt to bring out the flavor; if you have small yolks, add another one; keep stirring at the end; perfect thickness; quick browning, don't go watch TV... stand there; most of all, pudding mix = dog food.

  • Do we have to use the vanilla wafers? Or could I cut them out of the recipe? Or would that ruin the pudding?

  • @AnimeGirl1723

without dome type of cookie its not REAL banana pudding, but im sure you could do that

  • OMG! The best and easiest recipe. Thank you.

  • super !!!

  • VERY GOOD! Thanks for the video! This is the second batch ;)

  • I heard some people use cream cheese. would you reccomend to use it with this recipe or not?

  • Your a legend man this looks soo good!

  • This recipe is awesome :) thank you so much! I felt so comfortable making this because of your video :) You gave awesome tips.

  • my man is from the south and he specifically requested for a banana pudding that does not involve something from the box. this one is perfect! i'm sure he's gonna love this. thank you so much!

  • do u have a website or something w the recipe?

  • Can I make the pudding ahead - everything except the meringue? Or can I make the whole thing ahead of time - say a couple of hours. If I make the pudding and refrigerate, do I need to let come to room temp. Sorry if I already posted something about this.

  • Looks great. Question: Can I make pudding ahead and add meringue at end to cook. But I guess it will be cold. Do I need to bring it to room temp?

    Thanks

  • puppy wants pudding

  • my god it's sooo interesting this recipe, in italy we don't have recipes like this (no comment!)!!! i will make as soon as i can this recipe!!!

  • I made this banana pudding recipe yesterday and it turned out to be very delicious. My family really loved it.

  • there are 15 ppl that don't know nothing bout southern cooking, too bad! I can't wait to try this recipe.

  • could you make a video on how to make the wafers from SCRATCH??

    please?!

  • I live in Georgia and made this tonight for my best friend (2 pans, 1 for me-1 for her) and she was AMAZED. She hasn't had homemade banana pudding since her Mamaw's (Grandma). She texted me immediately and said "OH my gosh, I haven't tasted banana pudding so close to my Mamaw's!" What a compliment! Thanks so much. The video was great too. Thanks for your help :)

  • thank you for making this! it really helped my dessert not turn out an utter mess.

  • Yup, this is similar to the way I make my banana pudding. You absolutely.... Rock!! I wish we were neighbors!

  • Its great to see the homemade recipes being kept and shared. If you want a real super treat for both your health and wonderful taste, use 1 can of coconut milk instead of cow's milk. Coconut milk enables those with lactose intolerance to enjoy the good life!! For those with flour sensitivities, cornstarch can be used for thickening, but remember, it takes only half as much as flour!!

  • hello..i just wanna ask wat kind of flour u use..it is wheat flour or wat????

  • @snua86 - all purpose

  • @snua86 this question made me laugh a traditional Southerner would never use whole wheat flour : }

  • Looks darned good! Great videos on your channel, by the way!

  • Boxless nana puddin...HEAVENLY!

  • Thanks I love banana pudding this way over using actual banana jell-o pudding I haven't made this in a while and forgot some of the recipe thank you so much tastes just like how mom made it

  • As a southerner , I remember bananna pudding from my youth back in Carolina. Could you maybe do some fried okra or yellow squash rolled in corn meal sometime. I remember that too......Yum....i miss that Southern food

  • Heyy, would using 2% milk make a differnce thenw hoel milk?

  • @crp50403 - go ahead and use what you have... it'll all taste good.

  • You really need your own tv show!

  • Hey scott ,

I was wondering if you used unsalted butter??

  • @XxJr06xX - unsalted butter... sorry I didn't mention it... but I never use salted so I guess it just didn't cross my mind.

  • 8:13 your dog is waiting for the banana pudding!

Hello @ScooterSMcGee, i have some questions:

    1) can i use lady fingers instead of the vanilla wafers? because vanilla wafers are not sold in my area.

    2) or do you have any suggestion on what can i replace with the vanilla wafers?

    3) if i want it not too sweet, can i cut down the amount of sugar in the custard and meringue? will the texture or consistency be different, esp. the meringue?

    thanks in advance.

i'm so happy i found this video.

  • @ninjatot - yes, absolutley you could use lady fingers. You could cut down on the sugar, but until you've tasted the recipe the way it is you won't know how good it can be :)

    Good luck! -Scott

  • This looks reeeally good and I've only

Made the box kind. I am making banana pudding for my thanksgiving desert, do I refrigerate this or serve it hott?? Need to know before Thursday. :)

  • @fredrikc973 - typically this would be served cold.

  • how long can i store this pudding in the refrigerator?

  • @BeautifulCreation06 - about 3 days... if it lasts that long :)

  • also, what type of cookware is that..I love it!!

  • do you have to use a meringue? can i use heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla or banana extract to make a nice creamy topping, that i just let chill overnight?

  • @armywife2248 - sure... there are no rules in your own kitchen.. just take this recipe and make it your own. A creamy topping would be delicious.

  • this looks fantastic but just a question. I have been trying to find a banana pudding recipe that is just pudding, flavoured like banana. Every banana pudding recipe is basically just vanilla pudding with banana chunks and cookies in it. Is there any way to use fresh bananas to make a real, from scratch banana pudding? or would you use banana extract perhaps? maybe in place of vanilla extract and use a basic vanilla pudding recipe? ty

  • Hey this was awesome. The second time I made this I blended 1 banana with the 2 cups of milk in my Vitamix before making the custard.....YYUUUUMMMM

  • I found your recipe quite by chance and I have to say I am impressed. I love good food and like to try recipes from all around the world. This one seems easy, it's very well explained and I will do it as soon as I recover from this wretched flu... Of course, it's better to not cook from a box: it's healthier and tastier! Plus it's quite therapeutic... I'm sure I'll try a lot more of your recipes. THANKS!

  • Great demonstration :) I may try your vanilla pudding recipe next time I need to prepare it for a small crowd. It's sweet and simple compared to my grandma's method and I'm betting tastes just as good. Keep up the good work with your videos!

  • thank you so much for posting this video, usually my sister makes the pudding from the box for thanks giving,it sits in my fridge for the next two weeks lol it def has not been the same since i tasted grandmother's..,..well for this thanks giving, i thought i'd cook it from scratch this year myself, then maybe it will be a hit, thank you very much for this,I will follow it to the T.

  • @dymondz4me - hi! if you like a lot of pudding, double to ingredients. It turns out really well. Best of luck, Scott

  • Great demonstration! I love your kitchen set-up, too! I also like the way you work in a neat, clean manner. I always try to cook so that I don't leave a big mess for myself to clean up! Thanks for your efforts, they are most appreciated.

  • I keep getting yellow pieces when mixing the ingredients for the pudding...?

  • @SynPride - bring the temperature of the egg mixture up more gradually. It sounds like you are cooking them at too high a heat and they are curdling before the custard forms.

  • I absolutely LOVE this recipe! I make it quite often and I get so many compliments. It reminds me of my aunt's banana pudding. Thanks for sharing!

  • @95Mccain - you need to bake it just to toast the egg whites

  • Just wondering if u have to put this in the fridge or can u just leave it out?

  • @maut1976 - it needs to stay in the fridge

  • that looks amazing, im a little confused as to why the mirangue frosting only took 4 minutes as when i made them on their own before it said about 2-3 hours!

oh and if i made this could i put some lemon into it somewhere? cheers!

  • @Cherinbrook - the merangue here is soft and only needs to brown in the oven. I think you are thinking of the merangue that goes in the oven until crispy.

No lemon in this dessert, the acid would discolor the pudding.

  • you seem so calm and really well spoken in front of the camera. good job!!!

  • I just made this and it is FANTASTIC!

  • Peace, your recipe has made me a star, and created monsters lol! I am now known for my (your) banana , and my chewy cookies!

  • i made it and i loved it :D Thanks so much for the great recipe!

  • Simply the best, just like my moma use to make. Thanks soooo much!!!! 10 stars!!!!!

  • looks delicious I am going to try making it, I am a new subscriber : )

  • I'm never doing boxed again..........yum!

  • My mom and I forgot how to make this, thanks for the great video, were going to make this today!!! All of the other videos had pudding in the box, uugh!! lol

  • Scott where's your cook book? You should really do so....I will certainly buy!!!

  • I made this recipe Sunday night... Soooo good! Thanks! :)

  • Hi Scott , I would like to thank you for the recipe; I made it for Christmas and it was a hit. I am going to keep this recipe on hand. Thanks a lott

  • Wonderful! I have only ever made chilled pudding. I'm going to try this, wow I never would have thought of a meringue topping like that! I love your videos, I always learn something every time I watch them.

    God Bless.

  • Thank you so much for making this video! I made some last night and my family really liked it and so did I :D I grew up eating my banana pudding this was and just couldn't find the right recipe to make it, everyone else used the pudding in the box and made it cold :'( so i was very excited when i found u, again thanks very much! :D

  • Thank you so much for the lovely recipe. I am so greatful that it was homemade instead of he box variety because who needs someone to teach them to make something from a box.

  • I have tried it. Its awesome! So simple and delicious.

Sometimes I don't do the meringue part instead, let it set in the fridge and then serve it with a dallop of whipped cream. It is a yum variation too :)

  • Looks so delicious!

  • i am goin to try your banana pudding soon.u make it so simple but tasty

  • Tryed It very good !!

  • looks great im going to make this, but i like my banana pudding cold. scott can you make meatballs mine are not moist enough. great show

  • Gah!! I wish it wasn't 11pm at night cuz I would run to the store to get the wafers n bananas so I can make it right now. mmmm foodgasm!!!

  • Hi Scott, I am making this for my comfort food to-night. :-)

    -caryl

  • yay! thanks for remembering the meringue! Nothing makes me more crazy than the suggestion of *cool whip* on banana pudding!

  • I took this to a 4th of July cookout. Everyone loved it! It was all gone before I got a chance to taste it. I forgot to add the salt, but I used salted butter so I think that may have made up for it. Thanks Scott, keep'em comin.......

  • i'd put alil less wafers, but definitelt gonna try to make it now. Thx!

  • This looks very good!

  • you are to wonderfull person!!! i have learnt alot from you!!! keep it up

  • Looks so yummy. I can't wait to try this at home.

  • it tastes good when its cold too. =D but I prefer warm!

  • Scott, just made this tonight. Oh my dear lord... words don't adequately convey how utterly amazing this dish is. Thank you so much for sharing. We all appreciate you!

  • I am a true southern girl and I know a good banana pudding when I taste it. This is wonderful! I would never consider substituting graham crackers for vanilla wafers. It wouldn't be the real thing, although I'm sure it would be good. Keep up the good work.

  • oh my have you tested it when its still warm its so good

  • i love it when its warm mmmm

  • Hi Scott, my husband requested some of that fabulous BP I made "last time." So I am back to get your recipe! You are the best.

  • i use graham crackers

  • Great video! Ive always loved banana pudding from scratch. If it was made with the box pudding I don't even bother eating it! Also, thanks for doing the meringue. I always got confused on that part.

  • I made this before using graham crackers instead of vanilla wafers. It was delicious!

  • I made this before and instead of using vanilla wafers I used graham crackers. It turned out better than I thought it would and it was delicious!

  • My family loved your banana pudding, thanks so much for the great video!

  • What did you do with the vanilla extract? o_o

  • after he took the pot off the burner, then he add the vanilla extract.

i was wonder the same thing at first.

    bless

  • Awesome, just the recipe I was searching for! I am 5 months pregnant and craving my grandmas homemade banana pudding and didn't have the recipe but, your was exactly the way she did it.. Thanks, you have a new subscriber :)

  • Mmmmmmm banana pudding is my favorite dessert. Can't wait to try this recipe.

  • Do you think Soy Milk would work the same?

  • I love your video. It was just what I was looking for.

    ~Krys

  • pretty watch...is it a Mavado?

  • Hi Scott, I'm back. Do you have a GREAT traditional recipe for a Pound cake? Like granny used to make? Tender, not too dense, slightly crunchy crust?

  • I most certainly do. It is actually my grandmother's recipe. I will have to post it here soon.

  • Oh Scott, my dear, I need one now!

I have everything sitting out on the counter coming to room temp!

  • OH YUMMY!! How about Lemon Pound Cake.............. MY grandmother would make a glaze and drizzle it all over the pound cake that was all the grandkids favourite YUMMY

  • How did you learn to cook?

  • Well, growing up I learned a lot by watching my grandmothers cook and asking a lot of questions. When I decided to go into food professionally I went to Culinary School.

  • Ok, where was your grandmother from? I am trying to make a BP just as close to what my Southern Grandmother made. She was from Alabama. So far yours looks the closest. BTW, thanks for taking the time to put this out here!

  • Both of my grandmothers are from Louisiana. I really suggest giving this recipes a try... for a generous portion I would double the custard part of the recipe and leave the bananas and wafers the same as stated in the video.

    Good luck!! Scott

  • Scott, the Banana Pudding was excellent! Thanks so much!

  • hello scott where are you from are you ceole ?

  • I made this for Thanksgiving and it was great! Everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. Thanks for doing this!

  • oh you are so cute

  • Perfect Thank you everybody when they tried it ; they took the recipe ...

    Thanks

  • I really like this video omg it looks soooo yummy !

  • can you mix the custurd without the mixer

  • this was a great recipe

  • Good job buddy, really enjoyed the presentation.

  • my granny has been making the same recipe for years its really good.

  • isn't there anything u can't cook? lol

  • Excellent recipe! The only thing that I would do differently is this:

Place all of the milk, all of the butter, and half of the sugar into the pot to heat up. Place the other half of the sugar, the flour, and the egg yolks into your stand mixer with the whisk attachment and beat the snot out of them. Once all of that comes together into a nice batter consistency, then add that to your pot. It'll help prevent any curdling of the eggs and any lumps with the flour.

  • I tried this and it turned out great and it definately beats the box method!!! KUDOS FOR A GREAT RECIPE!!!

  • Redheads are so adorable :-)

  • I made this, followed your directions, it turned out very good, I loved it as well as me friends and relatives, thanks Scott!

  • Well, I googled Banana pudding thinking I will use the box and add alil..guess what.. I made it from scratch and I am sittin' here eatin' it licking my spoon I am so proud of me. Thanks for making a difference in my cooking ability!

  • OMG this looks so good it makes me want to make it...we live in Southern Virginia, so this is how my mother in law used to make it when she run a southern cooking restaurant...I cannot wait to make this and surprise my husband....unless i decide to eat the entire thing by myself......LOL-

You did an excellent job presenting this recipe....

    :-)

  • I got my mom to make it and it was soooooooooooo good I love all of your videos you are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.:)

  • can you show me how to make banana cake

  • P.S:this reminds me a lot of Kiwi custard squares:thin pastry+THICK custard+meringue+sometimes chocolate drizzle..yum..

  • I love your videos&ur beater!Wish I had one like the one in ur kitchen-if u don't have a vanilla wafer, can u still use another type of biscuit&what degree in celcius is the temp again sorry??

Thx U-keep up the good work&keep postin!

    :)

  • One down and on to the making Scott's Mac n' Chesse.

I just made the pudding and it was DE-LIC-IOUS. Ok???? Substituted evaporated milk for whole, because it was what I had in the house.

I knew in my heart that I could cook. Thank you Scott for helping me along.

    Blessing,

    Tricia

  • YOU BETTER WORK BABY!!!! YUMMY.

Question: I really love the custard. Can I double the custard recipe to have more custard?

  • Of course you can. That would be great.

    Good luck!!

    -Scott

  • looks really goos....sure to try it someday

  • I made this for my new southern hubby as I have been looking for the "right" southern pudd'in! I'm from Chicago so had no idea what authentic southern pudding should even taste like. He absolutely loved it and ate a 13x9 casserole dish of it in 2 days. I did add a tad bit more vanilla but this will definately become a staple in our house! Thanks so much!

  • What %of milk fat is considered whole milk? 3.25% or 10%

  • My husband is a died-in-the-wool Southern boy so I thought I would surprise him with your recipe. Oh my gosh! This was deeeeelicious!

  • another great one!!!!!

  • A winner each time! Quick and easy to make!

  • you are great man, keep posting.

  • Great show Scott! You are now bookmarked in my culinary favorites!

  • i love you man when i seen a video that said banana pudding i just knew that person was using instant pudding!i make mine tha good old fashion way like you but i have a lot of people who tell me they can fix nana pudding and i look at it and can tell it is instant and then i taste it and tell them thats not tha right way to fix it and they tell me uhhh huh!!! lol but im going to send this one to their emails and let them know here is tha recipe you need to use without tha dog in the kitchen!lol!

  • Sweet cant wait to make it for Thanksgiving.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Sweet! Thanks for posting, I'm now subscribed. I use a can of Eagle Brand condensed milk, please try it!

  • Excellent video. I will be watching every single one of your videos. Email to follow.

  • thanks for that scooter, i had some friends over to the UK from Georgia and they kept telling me about 'nana pudd'n but never got the recipe from them, i'm off out to get the ingredients and try this over the weekend, also any idea what temperature 425 equates to for the uk? I'm just being lazy i could look it i guess. Anyway thanks for the tips

    Mike

  • I hope it goes well for you. I think you'll really like the final product. 425 Fahrenheit = 220 Celsuis

  • do you have to add a surtent type of milk

  • I find that whole milk works best.

  • good im lovin the pudding

  • I do this recipe too except I whip my own heavy cream and add powdered sugar and banana liquor. My folks prefer whipped cream over meringue.

  • I agree, whipped cream is good. However, as the title suggests, this recipe is for Traditional Banana Pudding.

  • my daugter's granny taught me about whip creme, and I use this now.

  • Ohhh yeah give me a big glass of milk with that! Fantastic recipe & you cooked it the Southern way too. No instant pudding in a box. LOL! Great job on the video.

  • Ohhh yeah give me a big glass of milk with that! Fantastic recipe & you cooked it the Southern way too. No instant pudding in a box. LOL! Great job on the video.
