The Wire season 3 shows the fall of Avon and the rise of Marlo, but even tho Marlo was the main minor drug dealer in 3 and the main drug lord in 4 and 5 his name still didnt ring out like Avon and Omars names did...Their names still ruled the streets from seasons 1-5...In the end Avon ended up in jail and Omar was killed while Marlo still alive and not in jail still has no name for himself on da streetz...Greatest show ever.

This season showed really good that all the politicians, high officers, mayors who suport the war on drugs, the prohibition, know that it is a scam, a bloody lie. But they don't give a shit. Some are brainwashed and can't see the truth(for the moment) and the others are only interested in getting elected and getting votes. They lie and cheat to fool the citizens. You have to understand Stringer wanted to go legitimate. Avon is all street, it was all about power. His father was street, he was street. Stringer wanted to rise but legitimately. He had Avon's nephew killed, DiAngelo. Had he lived, he would have eventually killed Avon. The honor was gone once Stringer crossed that line. How can you continue being loyal to someone that you feel is holding you back. In this game it is all about loyalty.

I've heard it speculated that since The Wire is filmed in Baltimore, written by Simon whose background is newspapers not movies, a lot of the actors are local talent... it was just off the radar of Hollywood.
