Sorry to see the towers go. I spent some time up each tower checking and replacing the red nav. lights on each tower when the regular Greenie went on leave. A lot of the staff wanted me to take cameras up the masts as you could see the Snowy from 600'
What a pity, I haven't been there since 2000 when I left the R.A.N. After serving 2 years at H.M.A.S. Harman it almost brings a tear to my eyes. I had some good times up there and anyone who served at Navcommsta Canberra in syscon in '98-'00 may remember me as nosey. I've wished I never left ever since I did. Those were the best days of my life! Sorry to see 'em go but nothing lasts forever. See you later OM.
What a shame, reminds me of our three 660' Freestanding Navy Transmitting towers they blew up in 1998. It reminded me of three Centurians standing watch over San Diego. Interestingly enough though the Receiving antenna, Whulenwebber in Imperial Beach is still standing. What an impressive antenna and radio site, I've been all though the facility and they had antenna's every two degrees from 500Khz to 30 Mhz.
Wow
