To my ear, Miss Rafey's phrasing of this classic is the most modern of all the versions from the period, despite being buried under an historically eclectic sound mix.
But does anyone know whatever happened to Susan Rafey? We both grew up in West Orange New Jersey. I knew her and her family during her mid-60's fame. I often wonder.... Anyone?
I was unable to locate any information on Miss Rafey's current musical activities or status on the Internet, but would interested to learn as well.
The version of this number by Miss Toni Fisher was a moment in time, but I think this one's significant as it illustrates Susan Rafey's very able jazz capabiities.
I love hearing her as I rank here right up there with Lesley Gore and Ronnie Spector.
@sayhello91364 I'm a friend of hers - she's great! She says she'll "appear" again soon... just working on other projects (she writes under her married name). :-)
Aghhh, my ears are bleeding !!!

Everything about this songs is amazing, especially the out of tune abrasive fuzz guitar.

Wow, this is a noisy record! I think this might make a tiny transistor radio speaker explode. That key change at 1:28 was very unexpected.

True. Wes Montgomery did a nice version of this on his "Tequilla" record.
