I remember two years ago when GM was advertised as building bad cars by the media This caused stocks to drop and then they restructured the company allowing other interests to take control and then all of a sudden GM was building great cars again , Yet the models hadn't changed much. Thanks to the power of the media
GM has bad vehicles. Some cars look like, like Caddy's... but there not good quality. Especially Chevy's wow. rented a Chevy when i was on a trip, worsed car I have ever drived. No room, bad drive, and the car felt like it was gunna collapse. plus it wasn't even a nice design.
If the Fed had let them fail, here's what would've happened: GM would've taken a few months to shut down all their factories and lay off all their workers. In that time, either:
a) Everything would've went to shit because everyone in the world's incompetent
b) Toyota, Ford, or Volkswagen would've opened more plants and bought out some of GM's assembly lines
c) A chance for a new automobile startup would've been presented, and newer, smaller companies would've taken its place.
It's a myth that GM builds low quality cars. Cheap cars yes, but from what I've seen they last forever. They're ugly, insipid, and boring, but they're very reliable. Any pontiac or buick with a 3800 V6 and four speed auto will outlast cockroaches.
@10072018 Look at all the cars with any Quad-four, 4.9L V8 Cadillacs, the 3.4L DOHC V6, the Diesel based on the 350, the 305, the Blazers with 4WD.
I'm not trying to argue, but the 3800 is just one engine. The 4.3L V6 was also a good, dependable engine. The Vortec and LS series motors were good, too. But look at the rest of the industry.
Whoever made that site is obviously a rendeck cock gobbler who pounds off to guys who dont lile gm. Well all i can say os get outta the closet get a life and move outta your mommies house. Take your boyfriend with you
"Me I like my Mercedes but they are way overpriced : )"
Compared to the quality you get they aren't that overpriced.
Had new Ford when I was 20 and one year later (kinda strange 1 year contract) got a new BMW 1 and there are worlds between those cars. And the BWM was still nothing compared to the Mercedes of my parents. But still sad that we have to give back the BWM soon :(
I work for a major auto supplier and here is how it is. Of the all the world's auto makers that produce cars in the USA Ford is most strict on quality, I dislike working with Ford lol... they make us redo whole batches of parts if they don't meet spec.
Toyota on the other hand rarely, if ever, returns parts out of spec... they just use them on their cars. GM is inbetween Ford and crappy Toyota as far as demanding quality from us.
Me I like my Mercedes but they are way overpriced : )
I dont get what is so amazing about toyotas, they are ugly as hell, they either accelerate uncontrolably or they randomly stall!!! ahah ur choice! my brothers friend has an aztec with 340000 miles on it and the only problem is the gas gauge doesnt work right! ahah
@yorkee5000 toyotas are ugly as hell? I would take any toyota in their lineup over a pontiac aztec, even if it does get 340,000 miles. That looks like the car homer simpson designed.
ive got a gm saab-its totally crap! made on the cheep. i had a saab years ago before gm took over and it was a brilliant car, well made ,solid and reliable.thanks gm, go f#£k yourself!!!!!
70 % of gm's Stock is owned buy the United States. 12% is owned by Canada. They did pay back there loans but they did so with money from the US and Canadian Government in the form of stock.
@Rayzkevin yes alot of companies are moving out of this country, my dad's job at the ford plant in batavia closed. but they merged it with another ford plant 30mins away from the old house.. but that wasnt his full time job. sorry about the loss tho
@rowerybo consumer reports also recommends the following fords: ford taurus, ford f-150 most selling truck in america, ford fusion, motor trends car of the year, 2011 ford fiesta, 2012 ford focus, and the ford escape. in kicking tires ford placed 2 cars in the top 10 most sold vehicles as of april, and scored #1 for the ford f-150... i didnt even include lincoln, mercury, and volvo... like they gm says let the best car win..
@chevypunchesthroats GM repaid their 1st round $6.7B Tarp loan with... (dramatic pause) a $43B round 2 Tarp loan. Congratulations GM! Steal the taxpayers money, then have the balls to tell them they've been paid back in full with interest. Where I come from, we call that a lie.
@PacificAirWarDotCom If you pay attention to business then you would understand that GM has paid back their loans on their own, no other loans necessary. All other financial backing was investment on the part of others who will revieve dividends as GM becomes more and more profitable. Essentially the investors own the stock of new GM which is to go on sale to the public and $ given back to those investors providing they sell their stock. Ever heard of a little thing called marketable securities.
@PacificAirWarDotCom Don't want to start a battle of words, my friend. But GM repaid his loan to the amercian and canadian governments. Then, when the time will be good, (they say at the end of 2010, what I don't believe), they will sell stock market to taxpayers.
@xaffr00x "ut GM repaid his loan to the amercian and canadian governments." I think they did but still. They aren't making profits. A company needs to obtain this inorder to float. But they aren't floating.
I find it funny that while in America, people scorn GM, in Japan and China as well as other countries, they readily purchase them. Matter of fact, China had a big celebration when the new Cadillac CTS-V went on sale in their market, they praised it. When the Camaro came out, they all imitated it and Europeans as well as Germans who reviewed it gave it excellent reviews. Like I said before, GM had a time when quality was low, but that's not the case anymore. GM is BACK and for the better.
@rowerybo GM isn't a innovative company anymore though. They don't reinvent anything. They still basically sell you the same product they've always been selling for over a 100 years. A refined vehicle with 4 wheels and a gasoline engine. What about alternate solutions? I mean. I completely understand the concept behind. "if it aint broke, DONT FIX IT!" True, but what about new solutions towards the future? I believe that Honda is truly the only real innovative company out there.
@EpiDemic117 Are you serious? HONDA? I work around Honda motors all day and they are the crappiest motors I have ever had to deal with. ALWAYS breaking down. The place I work at bought a new motor from them and it's even worse than the old motors and cost more. Real innovative I say.
@DDRMixer "Are you serious? HONDA? I work around Honda motors all day and they are the crappiest motors I have ever had to deal with." Where the fuck do you work at?
@EpiDemic117 A Go-kart place. I'm pretty sure if a company makes motors they should all be at the same quality. If they reflect upon the company's name.
@DDRMixer And the reason i say that is because my family has a business that involves gas powered equipment. We have Honda, Brigs, and the piece of shit Tecumseh. the only motors that have given us the smallest amount of trouble is the hondas. OF course they break to mostly because of the idots who rent them and od NOT understand how to operate the equipment properly. And mostly because the oil has BARELY been changed on them. Of course any motor will break if you do this.
@DDRMixer But if you are also talking about cars. There is no fucking comparison. TODAY i got into a brand new ford fiesta. It is the next step for Detroit makers but still cannot compare to the fit and finish as well as refinement of the Honda fit. I've noticed some problem with the fiesta right off the bat. And for being a 22k trim level car there were some features that were missing right off the bat. 4 disk breaks where one of them.
@EpiDemic117 A motor is a motor, quality should be in check for all. However, I'm pretty sure if you looked at different options for that car you could find those brakes. Though, I have never went to Ford's dealerships. At the same time, I have seen people driving that car and I know one person that really likes it. I have never really heard anyone talk about a "Honda fit" before though.
@DDRMixer Honda engines are crappy? Then tell me why I had a Civic with 312,000 miles on it and never had to do anything to it other than change the oil and replace the timing belt. Or tell me why I drive a Civic now with 240,000 miles on it that can outrun a Pontiac G6 and still get 38 mpg in the city. Or tell me why my GF's 2004 Civic is perfectly reliable, comfortable and safe yet regularly gets 34 mpg. I could go on and on, there are now 5 Hondas in my family, none have ever had any problems
@Supergungun None of those are fast cars, they're slow, heavy boats. The Honda freaking Fit gets from 0 to 60 just a couple tenths of a second after the Crown Vic Police interceptor! My 20 year old ZC powered Civic would mop the floor with one of those things! BTW, none of those cars were built by GM. And yes, they are pretty good cars.
@idontcare80 I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car. It can have a good bit of get up and go when need be but I don't drive to win races. I am, on the other hand. A fan of pre 1980 GM. My 1964 Cadillac for example is a sturdy piece of well built and beautiful majesty. There's no way your Japanese Econobox could ever look that good.
@Supergungun I don't really get what you're saying. Cars, in general, looked great for the first 60-70 years of the last century, that's just how it was. Then, from sometime in the late 60s, the American companies started to produce some of the most hideous vehicles that ever roamed the streets and they still do for the most part. The Japanese too have made some really fantastic looking cars (the third gen RX-7 and the 240Z are two of my favorites) and some really ugly cars. It's just how it is.
@idontcare80 Then why can't a real car company return us to that bygone era of style and security? I'd rather have a beautiful car than a safe, fuel efficient, or "fast" one.
@Supergungun Any of the major car companies could easily build cars just like they did in the early days, but no one would buy a car that wasn't safe, reliable and fuel efficient. The only people that buy cars that aren't any of those things seem to care only about speed. EVs seem to be rekindling the automotive world. Maybe if we're lucky, everything old will become new again with EVs.
@idontcare80 No Electric vehicle will be as beautiful as my Cadillac, and it will be decades before we see an electric vehicle that weighs 4600 (with the driver) that can go from 0-60 in 8 seconds.
@Supergungun You're very wrong on those points. Even if you converted your Cadillac to electric I don't think it would loose any acceleration performance. It would loose range though, but that will improve as battery technology improves. Check out the Tesla Model S, IMO it's a gorgeous car and it will easily outrun your Caddy.
@Supergungun HP and torque don't change, but the Caddy is heavier so the power to weight ratio would change. At first glance that conversion looks like it would lose acceleration performance since the stock Caddy has 320 hp and the Tesla has 288. But electric motors have much better torque characteristics than piston engines so they are usually equivalent to more powerful piston engines. Plus the Caddy is probably rated as gross HP, which looks like more than what would be with a modern rating.
@idontcare80 Actually it is 340 Gross HP. It converts to about 206 RWHP which means its net horsepower is higher.
On the other hand the Torque of the Cadillac, which is 480 lb/foot, most likely is far more than the Tesla's rating electric or not.
But I was saying that the main advantage the Tesla has is weight and aerodynamics. In its day, the 8 second 0-60 Cadillac was one of the fastest road vehicles.
@Supergungun Gross hp is ALWAYS more than net, it can't be the other way around. If you were to dyno that car at the flywheel today it would probably be making 300-320 hp, maybe even less. Torque doesn't have anything at all to do with vehicle performance.
@idontcare80 Torque has A LOT to do with vehicle performance. It's the push power of the Car. Torque is what gives the car god 0-60 times. That's why my 1964 Cadillac has a such a good 0-60 time for such a heavy weight.
@idontcare80 So you're saying my 1964 Cadillac can't pull as well as a 2010 Camaro? The Camaro has more actual horsepower but far less torque. By your theory its horsepower would give it more pulling ability.
And doesn't this also mean that we should use Corvette ZR1s and Dodge Vipers instead of Semi Trucks? They have more horsepower so therefore they are more powerful. Ignore the fact Semi Trucks have far more torque.
@Supergungun Your boat doesn't even get to 60 as fast as the base model Honda Civic. The V6 Camaro gets to 60 in 5.9 seconds, the V8 in 4.6, so no, your Caddy doesn't pull nearly as hard as a 2010 Camaro. Acceleration is all about power and weight.
And no, Viper and ZR1 engines should not be used in semi trucks, they wouldn't last anywhere near as long and they wouldn't be anywhere near as efficient. They would be able to out pull a typical semi engine with the right gearing.
@idontcare80 So you're saying you'd rather use your new Camaro to pull a trailer than my Cadillac? I've towed a mobile home in mine yet the factory says a Camaro shouldn't pull anything, if your theory is correct... Why?
And you're being ridiculous if you think a Corvette can pull a trailer better than a Semi.
@Supergungun "...the factory says a Camaro shouldn't pull anything..." That has to do with safety, not power. Caterpillar King of the Hill (their most powerful on highway engine as far as I can tell) 625 hp @ 2,100 rpm 2050 lb-ft @ 1,200 rpm Corvette ZR1 638 hp @ 6,500 rpm 604 lb-ft @ 3,800 If both engines are geared so that they both hit peak power rpm at 60 mph with truck tires... Torque @ wheels: Cat: 6,839 lb-ft ZR1: 6,980 lb-ft ZR1 = more torque @ peak power.
Ugh, it bunched up my comment. Anyway... If both engines are geared so they hit peak torque at 60 mph with truck tires...
Torque @ wheels
Cat: 5,125
ZR1: 4,782
So the Cat has the advantage there, but it also has WAY more torque and power than most semi trucks. The speed I used for example can be lower, torque for both will just go up accordingly.
@idontcare80 Okay then, you should go around pulling things with your 4 cylinder ricer. Maybe it'll hit and you'll explode into legos just like your car.
@Supergungun Are you sure you're looking at the right generation? There are 8 of them now. The 8th gen Civic Si coupe gets to 60 in 6.6 seconds, the Hybrid in 10.3. The 2007 Fit gets to 60 in 9 seconds.
@idontcare80 You're comparing 2 different weight classes. Plus my car is weighed down by QUALITY. NO PLASTIC. You don't seem to see how hideous and cheap plastic is and how the longevity of the car in general becomes in jeopardy.
@Supergungun I know they have different weights, just letting you know where your car stands. Longevity? I sold a Civic not long ago that had 312,000 miles on it and it never gave me a single problem. It was still in very good shape when I sold it too. The one I have now has almost 240,000 on it, I've never had a single problem with it either. I do love the look and feel of a classic car, but it's just not worth it for me to own one, they just don't perform how I like my cars to perform.
@idontcare80 My Cadillac has enough torque to power up hills and I love being unique. Not like every other tool who buys a car with plastic body panels that can be punched through. I like a car that is respected like I am. I want a car with history, one that can survive deadman's curve. New cars aren't built to last chronologically like the old ones were. And the 429 V8 + Turbohydramatic engine transmission Combo is just as bulletproof as your ricer.
@Supergungun well spoken... there was a time in this country when folks designed cars for longevity & beauty, circa the time period you mention. It wasjust sad for companies such as GM to assume the american public wanted bigger & better, without focusing on advancements in technology or the reality that folks do like driving pieces of art. The entrenchment of the UAW in america has severely hindered advancements in technology & actually giving folks what they want to drive. Politics!!!!
you obviously believe everything you see in magazines. Nobody in any western EU country wants their trash on the roads. Japanese, drive Chevies? That's delusional. The chinese on the other hand, will buy any kind of overpriced trinket as long as it's shiny. Without a constant cash infusion from the government, and government contracts (I think I repeated myself), they would have been out of business many years ago. General Mess is now Government Mess, same company, same trash.
@bupsey111 japanese dont drive chevy's your crazy japanese buy small ass cars that fit them perfectly. the most sold car in europe right now is the ford fiesta. europe likes small cars too.
@rowerybo This is what the GM fanboys say every year, and a few years from now you will be making the same excuse for the shit quality of GM's vehicles that are being produced now. GM has been building shit vehicles for over 3 decades now, they aren't going to change overnight.
@Nombredeusuario1030 "People who hates GM, also hates AMERICA." Damn how did it come to this? Hates with an "S" right after GM? Noooooooo may god help us all. And in our education system. Or at least uncle sam could.
@Nombredeusuario1030 who ever buys chevy hates america who wants to help a company when that company taken billions of dollars from taxpayers. really gm should just hand us free cars, they owe us that much anyways. anti-american company.
Toyota called. They respectfully request that you work the shaft just a tad while you're at it. Telling them you love them is still optional. Thanks.
If they came out with a hydrogen-powered car I'd buy it. Or a car that runs solely on hydrogen electrolysis from water? I'd definitely buy that, but I don't see that happening. All I see so far is CAFE appeasement and new commercials.
LOL! "Cleaner, faster and more Japanese than ever. We're not surprised we're obsolete, we planned for it." LOL! How can anyone not find this commercial hilarious?. And millions of you are stupid enough to thnk they are only an American entity. BUY AMERICAN my ass....
"...we're not surprised we're obsolete, we planned for it." - haha that is great!
Planned obsolescence has been synonymous with the GM name for half a century. That company has no interest in advancing what an automobile is. All GM cares about is money. And the US govt kept a worthless company from dying, for now, great. Yeah, I want OnStar and DexCool and shoddy build quality, gimme a GM!!! No really, thanks, I'll stick with a real car. Buying any car from this company would be incredibly dumb
I'll take my Honda CRV over any GM piece of shit. Dislike this comment, and you're simply protesting my opinion with fact. GM BLOWS, and so does anyone who clicks the thumbs down button.
ARE YOU GUYS RETARDED! Maybe you should come up to michigan to see the plants, gracias mi amigos my ass, almost everyone in my neighborhood works for the car industry, or at least has. thanks for not buying american, now my mom is out of work. GM's quality has improved u guys r stuck in the past get ur head out of the gutter
so that's great. my mom lost her job at GM, following the loss of our house, and in janesville wisconsin. So yeah, glad to hear Michigan is doing great. But now she works for Toyota Motors America in the corporate division. Hopefully GM really did learn how to treat their employees, but I hear they are treating them real good in Canada, Mexico, and Korea.
yeah they well. you're the idiot. If you were intelligent you would know that in the 1970's, GM was making cars that were literally BLOWING UP. They placed the fuel tank under the seat of the driver in one of the first of their pickup trucks during the 1970's. GM is known for NOT recalling, and telling people the get screwed. Look back on it buddy, GM has had more recalls than anybody. Plus, Toyota pedal issue is only found in the cars designed, made in sold in America, muhahaa dumb ass.
so, you're telling me that you're mother, who's working for Toyota Morors America, is working for a company who desings, makes and sells car that people get killed in ? haha, nice work buddy.
i'm telling you than my mother works in the corporate division of toyota motors America. she doesn't design the cars. god you're such a fucking dumb ass. did you not just read what i said?!? TOYOTA SCREWED UP!! HOWEVER THEY HAVE THE FUCKING BALLS TO FIX IT UNLIKE GM. get a life, and quit bashing Toyota, GM has NOTHING over Toyota.
if GM had a problem like tht that could kill people and the goverment forced them to do it like they did to toyota they would fix it too, and toyotas ceo admited that they steared awway from quality to be able to make more cars
@xaffr00x, If you call getting 40 mpg, paying next to nothing for insurance, getting great resale value, having a car that handles well, etc..Then yes I couldn't be happier to keep my Toyota as opposed to drive a piece of GM junk that only has the aim to exploit my wallet for THEIR gain.
hahahaha you're funny. You can pretend anything you want about your super Toyota piece of shit, but how can you say than GM exploits YOUR waller for THEIR gain when they lost over 80G$ over the past few years ? You tell me this, and then right after you write:
Gee, ANDRESFPEREZ, it's those "shitty" Japanese cars that turned Toyota into the most profitable automobile manufacturer on the planet while GM went bankrupt.
So where did they do money if they go bankruptcy ? :p
@xaffr00x, what I was referring to is I just think it's retarded how people like you expect everyone to spend their hard earned money on GM products which are known to be or have been famous over the decades for being subpar when it comes to quality and non-innovativeness.
They may have gone bankrupt, but then they robbed us of billions of tax dollar money. They should have been subject to liquidation.
Spend my hard earned money ? Hummm, let me see...I own a 2002 chevy Cavalier. The only money I spent on it except regular maintenance was a muffler bracket, so I don't see how I spend my hard earned money on GM products. I'm not saying that GM has been a good brand, only saying that it has become or, at least, I expect it became a good reliable for all his products. Anyway, don't care about what you little asian lover can say, I won't even spend one more second of my life here with you :)
@xaffr00z Why do us GM haters have to get bashed so much just because we don't like their cars. They're not refined enough. You expect GM to become a reliable brand? That's not good enough. They've had enough time.
@xaffr00x excuse me douche bag but if you had been paying attention to the news reports and the stock market you would have known that GM took billions (at least $50billion) OF OUR TAX MONEY! And what did they do with it? They soaked much of it into their Brazil and China operations
Now get back to your XBox and Sony Playstation and let those of us that have a clue have a real discussion
do u realize tht if the big 3 went down tht the suppliers wouldnt get enough income and would have shut down and your beloved hondas couldnt b made. and also we didnt take it~we borrowed it!
lies because Toyota and Honda both would replace market that GM lost. They would stay in business for sure, in fact Toyota and Honda's product would probably increase in quality and reliability even more because they would become the number one focus of such suppliers. GM doesn't keep the suppliers in business, the worlds population who buy cars do. That means GM doesn't effect the suppliers at all. SUCH A DUMB comment yorkee5000
Dumbass, Chrysler and GM took our money. Look it up on CNN, the article is called "Chrysler won't repay bailout money" THAT IS 7 BILLION USD. GM still owes the taxpayer a significant amount of money, although they plan to pay it back. Don't forget the stockholders who lost a lot of money by investing in GM and Chrysler. At least Honda and Toyota don't get bailouts. I hope you enjoy your shitty GM, Chrysler or Ford car, I'll be sure to call the tow truck when I see you stranded on the road.
Ford has comparable quality according to Consumer Reports, but many Asian brands such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai/Kia, Nissan and Subaru dominate. GM is not even near the quality of many imported cars. GM sucks balls and you are a dipshit.
@MacPowerBook GM is close to paying back most of the money. Gm is a tax payer, the employees pay taxes and probably more then you do. Aw hell man ill tow you with my silverado. Go GM!!
GM wouldn't be here if it wasn't for taxpayers. Yeah, companies that have offices in the U.S. as well as many U.S. employees pay U.S. taxes dumbass, that means people who work at Honda plants down in Alabama pay taxes too, your argument is bullshit. Considering your grammar and spelling skills, you probably have the education of a 3rd grader. I wouldn't be surprised if your ass was on welfare because of your inability to find a job. GM still sucks, and you are a dipshit.
@AppleMacBookAir2 Yeah they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the tax payer but neither would a lot of companies. You're bull shit, the banks took way more money then GM did and they aren't even going to pay it back. Haha thanks ass hole.
haha, *cough* 40 mpg means shit if you cant get up to 50 miles an hour ahah, if u stick a I4 in anycar you can get 40 miles to the gallon its no special thing
typical dumbass statement from a dumbass GM lover. because you really need a V6 in a car. Because v6's and v8's are SOO reliable, and fuel efficient. not only that but your beloved GM is following in the footsteps of the Japanese 4cyls. Did you watch the spoof above? "in other words more Japanese."
xaffr00x, you're crazy. GM has had more recalls and ignored more manufacturing defects than any other automobile manufacturer.; yet you want to pick on Toyota. At least Toyota and Honda address their problems. GM would just let them fester as if it were in some witch's brew pot.
so i hear toyota is recalling 5 million cars.... haha!!! watch out u damn toyota drivers theres a building infront of you and for some reason its coming closer fast and u cant do anything about it!!!! haaha
you're still a stupid fuck. people died and you're making light of it. Bravo Toyota for doing something about it, and spending time and money on fixing every car even though less that 20 of the 5 million have been effected by such issues. yorkee5000, get a life you mindless twit.
@yorkee5000 almost everyone in your neighborhood may work for the vehicle industry, however most people in the USA DONT work fo the vehicle industry. If GM had been allowed to liquidate, another company would have acquired them.
Don't start blurting this idiotic rhetoric regarding "BUY AMERICAN" Chrysler used to be owned by a German company. Now it's owned by an Italian company. GM assembles many of the vehicles sold in USA , outside fo the USA
yeah, and Hitler killed 6 million Jews, and Dick Chaney shot one lawyer with a shot-gun. tossing around numbers that have nothing to do with the current topic is idiotic. The point is GM had plans to close ALL but Cadillac plants in the United States just one year ago. They simply started to fail before they made in all the way down the list, and now people are catching on to them. real "American Revolution" if you as me.
im sorry that general motors workers have a union for the employees unlike honda or toyota and they give their employees amazing healthcare and make cars that honda and toyota wished they could design because forign cars are ugly peices of shit , like hondas truck whos body rusts out from underneath them!!!!
once again.. you're just an idiot. i have nothing to say to your idiot bs comments. the unions? give me a break, the point is GM cares only about profits, and staying on top. the way they did things worked until now, and now they are turning into the Japanese because they are now doing everything they are known for.
@yorkee5000 " im sorry that general motors workers have a union for the employees unlike honda or toyota and they give their employees amazing healthcare and make cars that honda and toyota wished they could design " The unions are one of the reason Why GM is sinking still. They lost yet even more money this year. So how the fuck are people claiming that they are paying the public back if they don't' have any in coming profits? And as for bad cars i have a whole fucking list of detroits fuckup
@yorkee5000 lets see my list of shitty detroit cars Pinto, Vega, Aztek, Olds mobile diesel, H2, Cavalier, Astro, 90s -00 Taurus, Sebring, K cars, Jeep compass, Grenada, Pt cruiser, Fifth avenue (used to drive one, already knew how horrible it was), Power Wagon, Grand AM, Ion, Neon, Cobalt (fails to compare). Lincoln Towncar, GM minivans, Chrysler Town and Country, and the list goes on and on and on.....
Okay, 600,000 people out of a population of 300 million will be .002% of America. Yeah, that is not a lot of America. To be fair, lets take the labor force number instead which is 153 million people, you will get .004% of American workers. Also, where are you getting your numbers, GM employs 112,000 people in North America (this includes Canada) Ford employs, 87,000 people, and Chrysler employs 58,000 people. In reality, employ .002% of the workforce. You are a dumbass.
Yeah, and what about Toyota, Honda and other import brands? Those brakes being recalled were manufactured by an American Company. They use American suppliers too. And still, you are a dipshit for saying they employ a lot of the American workforce. 600,000 people does not even make 1 percent of the American workforce. You are the real dumb fuck.
And, recall numbers are but one part of the whole picture.
It can be that a company that has many recalls has a problem. But, it can also be that a company that has too few recalls may not be keeping on top of their products as they're used in the real world.
Case in point: the Texas Instruments cruise control deactivation switch recall affecting millions of Ford vehicles made since the early 1990s or the intake manifold gasket failures on the GM 3800 Series II engines.
My point was that, without context to put things in perspective, it is easy to twist and spin the numbers to say whatever you want them to say.
"Figures never lie, but liars always figure."
Thus, it is important that the context of the numbers be considered. That's part of an accurate analysis of the data.
Another part: citing your reference to allow others to examine the data at their source, including an analysis of the methodology used to obtain the data.
"Toyota has more recalls in the last 2 years than GM has had in 10."
What's the context?
One explanation for GM having fewer recalls are that they may be less willing than Toyota to fix defects in their products because doing so will impact their bottom line in the short term.
Toyota's possible attitude: they're willing to take the short term loss to maintain their long term reputation.
Most recalls are conducted on a voluntary basis; it's fairly rare that a recall is forced by the NTSB.
In regards to the union, people need to realize that they do serve a purpose: they represent labor to ensure fair treatment and compensation from the company.
If the company is too strong, it can exploit the workers.
However, it can work the other way: if the union is too strong, it can exploit the company.
The relationship between the union and the company must be equitable, driven by wisdom and understanding. If the relationship is not balanced, it will result in the destruction of both.
I'm sorry but the UAW has definitely gained too much power in regards to GM. That's probably the main source of their current problems - making cars with terrible reliability/build quality. They have operated on an obsolete business model for far too long.
Why be sorry? The comment has reinforced my contention.
The UAW has become too powerful. It goes with what I've said: if the union is too strong, it can exploit the company.
The UAW exploits GM; GM effectively can't object to the UAW's demands. This puts the UAW squarely at an advantage, and this upsets the balance of the relationship.
The UAW has become just as bad as a company that exploits its workers.

I like c.

It's a myth that GM builds low quality cars. Cheap cars yes, but from what I've seen they last forever. They're ugly, insipid, and boring, but they're very reliable. Any pontiac or buick with a 3800 V6 and four speed auto will outlast cockroaches.
10072018 1 year ago 3
@10072018 Look at all the cars with any Quad-four, 4.9L V8 Cadillacs, the 3.4L DOHC V6, the Diesel based on the 350, the 305, the Blazers with 4WD.
I'm not trying to argue, but the 3800 is just one engine. The 4.3L V6 was also a good, dependable engine. The Vortec and LS series motors were good, too. But look at the rest of the industry.

PacificAirWarDotCom 1 year ago 14
@PacificAirWarDotCom If you pay attention to business then you would understand that GM has paid back their loans on their own, no other loans necessary. All other financial backing was investment on the part of others who will revieve dividends as GM becomes more and more profitable. Essentially the investors own the stock of new GM which is to go on sale to the public and $ given back to those investors providing they sell their stock. Ever heard of a little thing called marketable securities.

EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@EpiDemic117 Are you serious? HONDA? I work around Honda motors all day and they are the crappiest motors I have ever had to deal with. ALWAYS breaking down. The place I work at bought a new motor from them and it's even worse than the old motors and cost more. Real innovative I say.

@DDRMixer "Are you serious? HONDA? I work around Honda motors all day and they are the crappiest motors I have ever had to deal with." Where the fuck do you work at?
EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@EpiDemic117 A Go-kart place. I'm pretty sure if a company makes motors they should all be at the same quality. If they reflect upon the company's name.
DDRMixer 1 year ago
@DDRMixer And the reason i say that is because my family has a business that involves gas powered equipment. We have Honda, Brigs, and the piece of shit Tecumseh. the only motors that have given us the smallest amount of trouble is the hondas. OF course they break to mostly because of the idots who rent them and od NOT understand how to operate the equipment properly. And mostly because the oil has BARELY been changed on them. Of course any motor will break if you do this.
EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@DDRMixer But if you are also talking about cars. There is no fucking comparison. TODAY i got into a brand new ford fiesta. It is the next step for Detroit makers but still cannot compare to the fit and finish as well as refinement of the Honda fit. I've noticed some problem with the fiesta right off the bat. And for being a 22k trim level car there were some features that were missing right off the bat. 4 disk breaks where one of them.
EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@EpiDemic117 A motor is a motor, quality should be in check for all. However, I'm pretty sure if you looked at different options for that car you could find those brakes. Though, I have never went to Ford's dealerships. At the same time, I have seen people driving that car and I know one person that really likes it. I have never really heard anyone talk about a "Honda fit" before though.
DDRMixer 1 year ago
@DDRMixer Honda engines are crappy? Then tell me why I had a Civic with 312,000 miles on it and never had to do anything to it other than change the oil and replace the timing belt. Or tell me why I drive a Civic now with 240,000 miles on it that can outrun a Pontiac G6 and still get 38 mpg in the city. Or tell me why my GF's 2004 Civic is perfectly reliable, comfortable and safe yet regularly gets 34 mpg. I could go on and on, there are now 5 Hondas in my family, none have ever had any problems

Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun I don't really get what you're saying. Cars, in general, looked great for the first 60-70 years of the last century, that's just how it was. Then, from sometime in the late 60s, the American companies started to produce some of the most hideous vehicles that ever roamed the streets and they still do for the most part. The Japanese too have made some really fantastic looking cars (the third gen RX-7 and the 240Z are two of my favorites) and some really ugly cars. It's just how it is.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 Then why can't a real car company return us to that bygone era of style and security? I'd rather have a beautiful car than a safe, fuel efficient, or "fast" one.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun Any of the major car companies could easily build cars just like they did in the early days, but no one would buy a car that wasn't safe, reliable and fuel efficient. The only people that buy cars that aren't any of those things seem to care only about speed. EVs seem to be rekindling the automotive world. Maybe if we're lucky, everything old will become new again with EVs.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 No Electric vehicle will be as beautiful as my Cadillac, and it will be decades before we see an electric vehicle that weighs 4600 (with the driver) that can go from 0-60 in 8 seconds.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun You're very wrong on those points. Even if you converted your Cadillac to electric I don't think it would loose any acceleration performance. It would loose range though, but that will improve as battery technology improves. Check out the Tesla Model S, IMO it's a gorgeous car and it will easily outrun your Caddy.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 The Tesla Roadster doesn't weight 4600.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun But it also gets to 60 in 3.7 seconds.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 Weight and aerodynamics determine that.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun No, power and weight determine that.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 Well yeah, power to but we're assuming its HP and torque doesn't change if the weight goes up.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun HP and torque don't change, but the Caddy is heavier so the power to weight ratio would change. At first glance that conversion looks like it would lose acceleration performance since the stock Caddy has 320 hp and the Tesla has 288. But electric motors have much better torque characteristics than piston engines so they are usually equivalent to more powerful piston engines. Plus the Caddy is probably rated as gross HP, which looks like more than what would be with a modern rating.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 Actually it is 340 Gross HP. It converts to about 206 RWHP which means its net horsepower is higher.
On the other hand the Torque of the Cadillac, which is 480 lb/foot, most likely is far more than the Tesla's rating electric or not.
But I was saying that the main advantage the Tesla has is weight and aerodynamics. In its day, the 8 second 0-60 Cadillac was one of the fastest road vehicles.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun Gross hp is ALWAYS more than net, it can't be the other way around. If you were to dyno that car at the flywheel today it would probably be making 300-320 hp, maybe even less. Torque doesn't have anything at all to do with vehicle performance.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 Torque has A LOT to do with vehicle performance. It's the push power of the Car. Torque is what gives the car god 0-60 times. That's why my 1964 Cadillac has a such a good 0-60 time for such a heavy weight.
Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun Nope, all wrong. That's just a very old misconception. There is a link to an explanation on my channel.

Supergungun 1 year ago
@idontcare80 So you're saying my 1964 Cadillac can't pull as well as a 2010 Camaro? The Camaro has more actual horsepower but far less torque. By your theory its horsepower would give it more pulling ability.
And doesn't this also mean that we should use Corvette ZR1s and Dodge Vipers instead of Semi Trucks? They have more horsepower so therefore they are more powerful. Ignore the fact Semi Trucks have far more torque.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun Your boat doesn't even get to 60 as fast as the base model Honda Civic. The V6 Camaro gets to 60 in 5.9 seconds, the V8 in 4.6, so no, your Caddy doesn't pull nearly as hard as a 2010 Camaro. Acceleration is all about power and weight.
And no, Viper and ZR1 engines should not be used in semi trucks, they wouldn't last anywhere near as long and they wouldn't be anywhere near as efficient. They would be able to out pull a typical semi engine with the right gearing.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 So you're saying you'd rather use your new Camaro to pull a trailer than my Cadillac? I've towed a mobile home in mine yet the factory says a Camaro shouldn't pull anything, if your theory is correct... Why?
And you're being ridiculous if you think a Corvette can pull a trailer better than a Semi.
Are you unhinged?
Supergungun 1 year ago
idontcare80 1 year ago
Ugh, it bunched up my comment. Anyway... If both engines are geared so they hit peak torque at 60 mph with truck tires...
Torque @ wheels
Cat: 5,125
ZR1: 4,782
So the Cat has the advantage there, but it also has WAY more torque and power than most semi trucks. The speed I used for example can be lower, torque for both will just go up accordingly.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 Okay then, you should go around pulling things with your 4 cylinder ricer. Maybe it'll hit and you'll explode into legos just like your car.

idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 You're comparing 2 different weight classes. Plus my car is weighed down by QUALITY. NO PLASTIC. You don't seem to see how hideous and cheap plastic is and how the longevity of the car in general becomes in jeopardy.
Supergungun 1 year ago
@Supergungun I know they have different weights, just letting you know where your car stands. Longevity? I sold a Civic not long ago that had 312,000 miles on it and it never gave me a single problem. It was still in very good shape when I sold it too. The one I have now has almost 240,000 on it, I've never had a single problem with it either. I do love the look and feel of a classic car, but it's just not worth it for me to own one, they just don't perform how I like my cars to perform.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 My Cadillac has enough torque to power up hills and I love being unique. Not like every other tool who buys a car with plastic body panels that can be punched through. I like a car that is respected like I am. I want a car with history, one that can survive deadman's curve. New cars aren't built to last chronologically like the old ones were. And the 429 V8 + Turbohydramatic engine transmission Combo is just as bulletproof as your ricer.

yorkee5000 2 years ago
nway, keep buying shitty toyota, i'll keep buying shitty GM :)
xaffr00x 2 years ago
@xaffr00x, If you call getting 40 mpg, paying next to nothing for insurance, getting great resale value, having a car that handles well, etc..Then yes I couldn't be happier to keep my Toyota as opposed to drive a piece of GM junk that only has the aim to exploit my wallet for THEIR gain.
BlogShag 2 years ago
hahahaha you're funny.
xaffr00x 2 years ago
@xaffr00x, what I was referring to is I just think it's retarded how people like you expect everyone to spend their hard earned money on GM products which are known to be or have been famous over the decades for being subpar when it comes to quality and non-innovativeness.
They may have gone bankrupt, but then they robbed us of billions of tax dollar money. They should have been subject to liquidation.
BlogShag 2 years ago
Spend my hard earned money ? Hummm, let me see...I own a 2002 chevy Cavalier. The only money I spent on it except regular maintenance was a muffler bracket, so I don't see how I spend my hard earned money on GM products. I'm not saying that GM has been a good brand, only saying that it has become or, at least, I expect it became a good reliable for all his products. Anyway, don't care about what you little asian lover can say, I won't even spend one more second of my life here with you :)
xaffr00x 2 years ago
@xaffr00z Why do us GM haters have to get bashed so much just because we don't like their cars. They're not refined enough. You expect GM to become a reliable brand? That's not good enough. They've had enough time.
BlogShag 2 years ago
@xaffr00x excuse me douche bag but if you had been paying attention to the news reports and the stock market you would have known that GM took billions (at least $50billion) OF OUR TAX MONEY! And what did they do with it? They soaked much of it into their Brazil and China operations
Now get back to your XBox and Sony Playstation and let those of us that have a clue have a real discussion

do u realize tht if the big 3 went down tht the suppliers wouldnt get enough income and would have shut down and your beloved hondas couldnt b made. and also we didnt take it~we borrowed it!
yorkee5000 2 years ago
lies because Toyota and Honda both would replace market that GM lost.
J40d 2 years ago
Dumbass, Chrysler and GM took our money. Look it up on CNN, the article is called "Chrysler won't repay bailout money" THAT IS 7 BILLION USD. GM still owes the taxpayer a significant amount of money, although they plan to pay it back. Don't forget the stockholders who lost a lot of money by investing in GM and Chrysler. At least Honda and Toyota don't get bailouts. I hope you enjoy your shitty GM, Chrysler or Ford car, I'll be sure to call the tow truck when I see you stranded on the road.

ford has better quality than your toyota and honda and gm is close behind
yorkee5000 1 year ago
Ford has comparable quality according to Consumer Reports, but many Asian brands such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai/Kia, Nissan and Subaru dominate. GM is not even near the quality of many imported cars. GM sucks balls and you are a dipshit.
MacPowerBook 1 year ago
@MacPowerBook GM is close to paying back most of the money. Gm is a tax payer, the employees pay taxes and probably more then you do. Aw hell man ill tow you with my silverado. Go GM!!
westvirginiaboy25 1 year ago
@westvirginiaboy25
AppleMacBookAir2 1 year ago
@AppleMacBookAir2 Yeah they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the tax payer but neither would a lot of companies. You're bull shit, the banks took way more money then GM did and they aren't even going to pay it back. Haha thanks ass hole.
westvirginiaboy25 1 year ago
haha, *cough* 40 mpg means shit if you cant get up to 50 miles an hour ahah, if u stick a I4 in anycar you can get 40 miles to the gallon its no special thing
yorkee5000 2 years ago
typical dumbass statement from a dumbass GM lover. because you really need a V6 in a car. Because v6's and v8's are SOO reliable, and fuel efficient. not only that but your beloved GM is following in the footsteps of the Japanese 4cyls. Did you watch the spoof above? "in other words more Japanese."

@J40d they probably did that on purpose cause they got some kind of sick sadistic pleasure out of it

xaffr00x, you're crazy. GM has had more recalls and ignored more manufacturing defects than any other automobile manufacturer.; yet you want to pick on Toyota. At least Toyota and Honda address their problems. GM would just let them fester as if it were in some witch's brew pot.
BlogShag 2 years ago
so i hear toyota is recalling 5 million cars.... haha!!! watch out u damn toyota drivers theres a building infront of you and for some reason its coming closer fast and u cant do anything about it!!!! haaha
yorkee5000 2 years ago
you're still a stupid fuck. people died and you're making light of it. Bravo Toyota for doing something about it, and spending time and money on fixing every car even though less that 20 of the 5 million have been effected by such issues. yorkee5000, get a life you mindless twit.
J40d 2 years ago
@yorkee5000 almost everyone in your neighborhood may work for the vehicle industry, however most people in the USA DONT work fo the vehicle industry. If GM had been allowed to liquidate, another company would have acquired them.
Don't start blurting this idiotic rhetoric regarding "BUY AMERICAN" Chrysler used to be owned by a German company. Now it's owned by an Italian company. GM assembles many of the vehicles sold in USA , outside fo the USA
BlogShag 2 years ago
um hello the big three employ 600000 ppl , thts everyone tied to them, so ya tht is alot of america
yorkee5000 2 years ago
yeah, and Hitler killed 6 million Jews, and Dick Chaney shot one lawyer with a shot-gun. tossing around numbers that have nothing to do with the current topic is idiotic. The point is GM had plans to close ALL but Cadillac plants in the United States just one year ago. They simply started to fail before they made in all the way down the list, and now people are catching on to them. real "American Revolution" if you as me.

im sorry that general motors workers have a union for the employees unlike honda or toyota and they give their employees amazing healthcare and make cars that honda and toyota wished they could design because forign cars are ugly peices of shit , like hondas truck whos body rusts out from underneath them!!!!
yorkee5000 2 years ago
once again.. you're just an idiot. i have nothing to say to your idiot bs comments. the unions? give me a break, the point is GM cares only about profits, and staying on top. the way they did things worked until now, and now they are turning into the Japanese because they are now doing everything they are known for.
J40d 2 years ago
@yorkee5000 " im sorry that general motors workers have a union for the employees unlike honda or toyota and they give their employees amazing healthcare and make cars that honda and toyota wished they could design " The unions are one of the reason Why GM is sinking still. They lost yet even more money this year. So how the fuck are people claiming that they are paying the public back if they don't' have any in coming profits? And as for bad cars i have a whole fucking list of detroits fuckup
EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@yorkee5000 lets see my list of shitty detroit cars Pinto, Vega, Aztek, Olds mobile diesel, H2, Cavalier, Astro, 90s -00 Taurus, Sebring, K cars, Jeep compass, Grenada, Pt cruiser, Fifth avenue (used to drive one, already knew how horrible it was), Power Wagon, Grand AM, Ion, Neon, Cobalt (fails to compare). Lincoln Towncar, GM minivans, Chrysler Town and Country, and the list goes on and on and on.....
EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@yorkee5000
MacPowerBook 1 year ago
*cough* its called suppliers dumb fuck
yorkee5000 1 year ago

Watcher3223 2 years ago
@congoman775
Watcher3223 2 years ago
"Toyota has more recalls in the last 2 years than GM has had in 10."
What's the context?
One explanation for GM having fewer recalls are that they may be less willing than Toyota to fix defects in their products because doing so will impact their bottom line in the short term.
Toyota's possible attitude: they're willing to take the short term loss to maintain their long term reputation.
Most recalls are conducted on a voluntary basis; it's fairly rare that a recall is forced by the NTSB.
Watcher3223 2 years ago
In regards to the union, people need to realize that they do serve a purpose: they represent labor to ensure fair treatment and compensation from the company.
If the company is too strong, it can exploit the workers.
However, it can work the other way: if the union is too strong, it can exploit the company.
The relationship between the union and the company must be equitable, driven by wisdom and understanding. If the relationship is not balanced, it will result in the destruction of both.
Watcher3223 2 years ago
I'm sorry but the UAW has definitely gained too much power in regards to GM. That's probably the main source of their current problems - making cars with terrible reliability/build quality. They have operated on an obsolete business model for far too long.
BlogShag 2 years ago
Why be sorry? The comment has reinforced my contention.
The UAW has become too powerful. It goes with what I've said: if the union is too strong, it can exploit the company.
The UAW exploits GM; GM effectively can't object to the UAW's demands. This puts the UAW squarely at an advantage, and this upsets the balance of the relationship.
The UAW has become just as bad as a company that exploits its workers.
