If I actually wanted to make a pecan pie this would be two minutes wasted. But since I only wanted to be entertained this was actually two minutes well spent.
@SpamSpope I want one of those microwaves from The Fifth Element where you pour a liquid in a pot, put it in for like a few seconds, and you have a whole dinner ready to eat.
I laughed so hard at 1:10 when Ella creamed her face XD
If you are going to eat whipped cream from the can, you need it to put the tip in your mouth before you unleash the cream...
Also, if you're using whipped cream with NOS as propellant, you can get high on laughing gas if you squirt it in your mouth, chew, and inhale the fumes inside the cream without opening your mouth.
I don't know if she did it on purpose, but she set us up for really easy double entendres here.
@ellamorton I don't know if you've encountered this yet, but Americans will often ignore the chemical composition of their Alumin(i)um cookware entirely and substitute the word "tin". You will hear "tin foil" and "pie tin" fairly often. Does anyone do that in Australia?
What I don't understand is: why do anything? The pecan pie is, in my experience, a room-temperature pie, and exceedingly sweet, so whipped cream is unnecessary. Just sayin'.
@aragorn123sg You can certainly make it from scratch without sweetening it, yes--but the product sold in the pressurized can is usually sweet. I'm looking on the side of a can that is in my refrigerator--the second ingredient (after "heavy cream") is "sugar"; out of the 6g suggested serving portion, "sugars" represent 1g of that.
@hocoyogro haha ya I always make whipped cream from scratch. great with rissoto.Oh the ingredients list. first item being the most. So thats kidda scary. 1 g od sugar per serving...
@aragorn123sg Well, it gets scarier: yesterday's pecan pie was also bought; looking on the box I find that 44g of the 113g suggested serving size is "sugars"; the first two ingredients are "Corn Syrup, Sugar". It's not really any different from that when my dad or I have made them from scratch. Most definitely a southern food.
to answer some questions: australians dont have pecan pie. and we mostly whip our own cream rather than using the weird-arse can variety. generally we cook food in ovens and the like rather than heating pre-cooked food in microwaves. and yes we do pronounce the silvery malleable metal aluminium like that (i cant see how you get alloominum out of that word)
Aluminum was the original name given to the element by its discoverer, British chemist Humphrey Davy. Aluminium was proposed by an anonymous letter to a poilitical-literary journal after the element's discovery was announced, under the justification that it sounded more classical (despite the -um suffix seeing usage in molybdenum, platinum, and tantalum). The American Chemical Society honored Davy by calling it what he named it. The rest of the world went with aluminium.
Ella, just put the whipped cream on the pie and don't heat it. It is already fully cooked. If you haven't before, try it that way, and you'll like it. Assuming you don't have pecan pie in Australia, and I have no idea whether or not you do, I wouldn't want making this video to be your only experience with pecan pie.
I had to watch this one more time before jetting off to bed. Some observations:
1. 'leee-vah it out' at 0:30 might confuse Americans.
2. Please promise that you will never become a surgeon. For the love of god and all things sacred.
3. We had Canadian thanksgiving a month ago, so I'm spending the day filling up my three humidifiers and hoarding dark chocolate for the winter. I think explaining humidifiers to an Australian would be as weird as explaining what alu-min-ium is to americans.
@ellamorton Ella, just so you know. The "Don't Mess with Texas" slogan was an anti-littering campaign produced by the Texas Dept of Transportation in the mid to late 1980's. As campaigns go, it was wildly successful, and included TV and radio commercials with local celebrities (including Stevie Ray Vaughan) delivering the message.
The rest of the country never really got it, and interpreted the slogan as "fighting words", which is unfortunate.
1:49 What she said: "aha...Interesting." / What she was thinking: OMFG This tastes like utter doom. Keep Smiling, Ella! You can rage against the planet when the cameras are off! :D
This is incredible. I say this in the most loving way, but you have all passed the epic threshold of failure. I'm not sure how you each managed to muck up your respective ready-to-eat type foods, but you've done it. Astounding!
@ellmorton Really? You don't know how to use canned whipped cream? Someone as intelligent and cultured as you was probably raised on hand whipped fresh cream though, so I guess we can let you have a pass on this one.
