@evansdadjohn Actually they were deliberately vague about the year in the daemons episode Yates was watching a program on BBC 3 and the Brigadier called the PM Madam David tennant (as the doctor) said he once worked for UNIT in the seventies or was it the eighties? it was just part of the fun

One thing that's interesting: they talk about "back in the "Cold War Days." Implying this is the future. I always loved how the seventies stories were supposed to be set "in the not too distant future," despite the fact it just looked so darn seventies.

I'm sorry, but have we all forgotten something... This is back in the 70's, where digital effects were not to our standards of today- back when this first come out it would have looked real to people and most probably given people heart-attacks, nightmares or even hiding behind the sofa's everynight... It may be fake, but there is no need to keep going on about it- just enjoy the programme
