  • But he doesn't know the territory!...haha weak ending

  • I could well be wrong, but the train seemed awfully upper class for salesmen, but I do think it captured the image of a heated debate better than the original. "Whaddayatalk" guy was really annoying in this version though ><

  • The original had a more realistic train, but the only complaint I have is that they should have kept the whole song. That's all

  • Honestly the original is WAY better than this one.

  • my thespian troupe had a small group that did a version of this. It was SOO epic :D

  • this video made my exam crazy.....

  • the acting in this movie is so god damn terrible...original is 1000x better than this shit

  • @acrazedcarnivore i agree. Matthew Broderick sucks in this movie.

  • @speedy592; Everybody can agree on that.

  • The original movie is superior but this rendition of Rock Island was one of the few things i thought was done quite well.

  • Personally, I love this version.

  • It's always a big mistake trying to remake a classic, it never ever works! You can't remake classics, the remake will always be compared to the original and come up short. Remember the Casablanca remake!! And I'll bet most people like the original Music Man much better than this one! There is only one Robert Preston and one Shirley Jones.

  • Not even a close call. The original is far superior. Simpler, more direct and original, when created.

According to Wiki, Jack Warner wanted a big name star for the movie, and approached Cary Grant. He told them no, the role belonged to Robert Preston. He owned the role. His tone, his body and hand movements, his expressions.

  • I think the original is sooooo much better!!!!! I do not like this version at all!

  • i honestly didn't like this at all. these salesmen don't have the same tone, charachter, or passion like the men in the original did. and the men who have the "Whadaytalk?" and "Whereyougetit?" parts just seemed kind of dead and not as annoyed as in the original. not to mention that this whole song is based off the sounds of the train and the music in the background totally throws it off and ruins it. sorry if you dissagree, but that's just my opinion.

  • Nope-prefer the original. Would not buy anything from these lame salesmen.

  • @VValkyrie I couldn't agree more, I do like how the train is a little louder in the background and provides a little more "percussion" to the whole thing, but the salesmen themselves sound too high pitched and annoying. Sometimes, you just can't match how they did it way back when.

  • i wonder how many times it took them to get used to talking to the beat of the train

  • originals way better

  • what card game is matthew broderick playing

  • I can proudly say that I know every single word to this song. My friends can proudly say that they have shut me up countless times after I start reciting it.

  • YOU GOTTA KNOW THE TERRITORY

  • @Stevezom wadaya talk !??!?!?!?!?!

  • i like the original better

  • 44 people know the territory. :)

  • 2 people dont have credit

  • I know my neighborhood, but not all territory. :P

  • 2 people dont know the territory

  • old time rap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If we're in an era of steam locomotion, I find it hard to believe that there should be any sort of racial integration in this film.

    Sorry, but that's just history.

  • Charlie Cowell looks like a crack snorting pedophile

  • @RKRSizzle11 And you don't know the territory, it would seem.

  • Old version = better

  • Original version was way better than this. This lacks the simple charm. The one thing I loved about the original was that wasn't carried by any music in the background it was just simple vocal music.

  • I have this version of The Music Man at home and watched it yesterday and i watched this part like a million times obviously my favorite song of the movie.

  • mattew brodrick is better in my opinion

  • I like Harold contributing to the "Hill?"s. Totally in character for him

  • I'm confused. The original doesn't have the "Uneeda biscuit" chunk in it. Where did it come from?

  • @Arezuisahoe

It's in the script to the play. They cut it in the Robert Preston movie, to speed up the pacing.

  • the original kicks this versions ass!

  • @SirCallahan17 NO WAY!!!!! This version is WAYYYYYY better.

  • noo! this one sucks!!!! the original is sooo much better!!!!

  • do you guys think it was tricky to do all that to the chugging beat of the train ?! i thought it was amazing :)

  • @natedog2004 Tricky yes. LOL And I only did a high school version of it.

  • lolz whadayatalk whadayatalk tee-hee i likee this one betr than the original tho

  • The dialogue doesn't go well with the action in this scene. : / This version is just really...ehh...

  • I was an extra in this movie, i was in the crowd at the 4th of july part. I got to meet Mathew Brodrick. It was an awesome experience,

  • @AwesomeX66 So lucky. How did you land the part?

  • @Missterygurl85

My mom herd somewhere that they were in need of extras for the movie that was filled in a small town not to far from ours. That specific scene was shot in Lakefield ON, Canada

  • Yesssssssssssss sir.

  • this song is the best we did this musical in our school

  • I like the part when the guy's all lke "You Can bicker you can talk You can Bicker you can talk you can talk talk talk talk bicker bicker bicker you can talk all you want but it isn't the same"

"No it ain't no it ain't you just gotta know the territory!"

  • Looks like a Old Episode of Seseme Street Missin' The Monsters

  • Negative!!! Can never beat the origional! How do i say this? It was origional!!!

  • :D great quality

  • I like this version of the song better than the original Music Man! Only better thing about it though.. Ech. Matthew Broderick...

  • I agree. i like the 2003 soundtrack better than the original.

  • @PoisonRainVornado i agree

  • @PoisonRainVornado If only they could've had this number in the original....

  • @PoisonRainVornado I agree on a few things, but honestly I think the "2003 Marion" has a better singing voice than Mrs. Partridge (thanks if you understand the reference. lol) The jury is still out on the BBShop 4tet. I think both are really great. What are YOUR thoughts? Also, the 1967 Mayor Shinn is much more bumbling and enjoyable than the '03...just my opinion.

  • @MrDanielBrisk My thoughts are I made this comment more than a year ago and I don't care anymore...

  • @PoisonRainVornado Then why even respond to me?

  • @MrDanielBrisk Because you asked for my thoughts and you decided to respond to a year-old comment.

  • @MrDanielBrisk Because you asked for my thoughts and you decided to respond to a year-old comment.

  • @PoisonRainVornado I agree. I saw this movie when it was first shown, and Matthew Broderick's performance was really the only thing I disliked about it. He was just a bizarre choice for Harold Hill. I've seen a high school Harold Hill who was far better!

I always liked this version of "Rock Island." The camera work and the lighting actually make it seem sinister.
