As much as I love sylosis. Conclusion of an age is one of my favourite albums and I loved Supreme Oppressor but I miss the old lead vocalist. I could hear him loud and clear, when i play this album in my car, you cant really hear what he is singing. I do prefer the the EP and first album to this album too.
i am dissapointed that i bought this album from hmv for £8.00 and the Conclusion Of An Age for £15.00. both should of been atleast around £10-£15 atleast :(
Sooo..I'd like to point out that in studio you wouldn't track vocals while tracking guitar. He definitely did the two separately (unless someone is retarded) so the argument that he is playing and singing is completely invalid. That being said, still an amazing band and great vocals. But I do miss the old vocalist. But it's very rare that people don't miss original lineups. It's just gonna happen.

Fuck, I can't get past those vocals. Aside from a few highs, they don't sound like growls. They sound like yelling with a sore throat or something. Instrumental is awesome, though. \m/
@SycamoreHill14 he is doing fry screaming its not the typical growl u hear in death metal which uses false chords...look up fry screaming u will see what im talking about
@FtaCapoeiraWoot nah man im 100% sure those are fry there is no way those are false chord trust me ive spent a lot of time analyzing the ltitle differences between the diffs screams and this is def a fry....learn fry properly and u can sound like this...also the reason i know its fry for sure is because some of his screams have a pitch to it whereas there is no way to pitch falsechord...check out before the dawn they also do very similar growls which are fry also...learn fry if u like it
@FtaCapoeiraWoot i talked with josh after their shows in both brutal assault and summer breeze festivals....and i asked him about a lot of things including his growl...he specifically said he uses fry...i dont know whats to argue about here....btw pitching a scream means u can get a NOTE from it....go growl ur false chord into a tuner or a mic and try to get a note from it...u cant
When I play with them next year I'll ask him and if they use fry then it's my bad. But I do fry vocals and I've never had a good sounding vocal like this
@FtaCapoeiraWoot aite np...but while u can check out the bands i posted....i specified which bands use which kind of growling...what you mean u play with em next year?
@Lekiwi33 I mean my band might be playing as an opening act with them next year. I'll ask him then, but I've been asking other vocalists and they think this is false cord too. I'll show you my fry versus my false cord in a video if you like, when I'm tracking for demos, I'll do a little one for you
@FtaCapoeiraWoot is you are still in disbelief then listen to the following bands...fry: before the dawn, amorphis (new vocalist), dark tranquility, in flames, (metalcore shit), chimaira, daath, scar symmetry, decapitated, in mourning, ,lamb of god, devildriver, malefice
false chord: any old school death metal, insomnium, be'lakor, amon amarth, arch enemy, whitechapel, draconian, amorphis (first few albums black metal and death), bloodbath, swallow the sun...
@FtaCapoeiraWoot I would like to learn this type of vocals, especially screaming in pitch. Can you give me some advice how to start or maybe recommend some video lessons on Youtube? Please.
@13guitard00d Most of the video lessons on youtube are a good place to start. As for the screaming in pitch, just pick a note and sing that, then apply the screaming technique to it I guess
Got to say that the debut album is head and shoulders above the follow up. Conclusion of an Age is totally visceral, multi-dynamic, clever and tight and vocally on point. I don't think Josh is raw enough vocally, almost forced. Still, looking forward to seeing em play stuff from Conclusion in Glasgow.
@mwill96 1) his first time doing vocals. 2) he kills its. 3) suits the music so much better, makes it SO much more visceral, when I listen back to COAA its so much 'lighter' and 'happier' in feel. This album on the whole is so much darker and in minor key. and most importantly 4) what are you on about COAA is more multi-dynamic clever and tight?! There is so much more on EOTE, SO many more intricacies - leaps and bounds more, and as for not as tight I really don't know where you're coming from.
@mwill96 ok i jus put on a couple of tracks and i think i know what you're trying to say about the 'tight' element. Thats totally down to production, the first album is heavily clinical and triggered in sound. The drums are 80% triggered and 20% acoustic, and the tone heavily compressed. with EOTE, the sound is alot more raw, 50-50% triggers, raw tones. etc. However that doesn't mean that they are by any way not tight as a band.
Josh's vocals are just absolutely exceptional. His growls and highs are brilliant, but his pitched screams just take their sound to a whole new level. 4:52-5:22 :D
@MrChickenWings6 nah they sound a bit fuller than matts vocals. I think that Matt has a kinda raspy scream, while Josh has more of a growly scream. I love both of their screams though
I persoanlly think Josh's voice is better suited for this type of genre - his has that some what evil yet melodic feel to it, especially at 4:52 - makes me shiver everytime.
@albarrette Their leadguitarist 'Josh Middleton' is doing Vocals as well now after they parted ways out with the old vocalist. In my opinion Josh is doing a great job here but I always had more respect for vocalists who also play guitar at the same time :D
@PokeYouWithaSpork wrong actually my good man. josh likes to push him self, just as should any musician, so they (josh and bailey) mix up the melodies and rhythms live. + Josh does all the solo's live too.
@stixflix06 i saw an interview and i believe bailey said that he solos live, im dieng to see them live but i dont doubt you im just going off of what i heard
@PokeYouWithaSpork i know he plays the leads in reflections through fire and alot of harmonies. he doesn't play the solo's tho. they are written and played by josh :). Yeah man they are hands down one of the tightest bands you'll see live!!
@sgmatt93 ive watched sylosis 3 times live this year....brutal assault festival, summer breeze open air, and at the cathouse in glasgow....in which duration i havent seen bailey do one solo....i am not insulting him as guitarist....he is far more skilled than i am...but josh has done ALL the leads....trust me on that
@sgmatt93 /watch?v=UWT_YLibgp0 see he plays the leads even while he growls....u were probably thinking he didnt play the lead at 1:40 but he does...check the live :)
@FassaertS i agree with u but i have to say that vocals expecially deep screaming is very hard to do whilst playing guitar. saying that josh is doing a very good job of it and i love the entire album :D i like Empyreal the most :)
shredding from reading... on this album you have it... once again! On the next album i want to have only shredding without melodies... and then an sylosis album purely instrumental with nice melodies and stuff... like opeth's deliverance and damnation.
