i know the 70's didnt have this feature, but does your 60 have the 2 speed belt set up to the rear end? if so you would have to lift up the fenderpan and manually change the belt ratio to high or low range. thats only found on the earlier 60's and was dropped for the later 60's and the model 70.
you will have one heck of a time finding a good VH60 6hp tecumseh which would have powered it. i have a 70 with its original VH70. it runs but it needs alot of work to get it back to how it should be.
I would LOVE to have the original engine put in it. but I think I'll just go to harber freight tools or tractor supply and git a engine with a little less HP and see if it will fit in that small area.
i found a blown vh60 tecumseh i bought it for parts to help me fix my vh70. the vh70 and the vh60 tecumseh are hard engines to come by. the engines that will fit a john deere 60 and 70 are the tecumseh v60,
v70 aluminum block engines and the
vh60, vh70 cast iron block engines. i have a 1970 7hp briggs i wanted to retofit to my 70 but its a bigger engine than the 7hp tecumseh was so it wont fit.
I have a 60 just like that but it needs a new engine. The rest is in great shape but I'll probably have to see it sooner or later?
