  • What's really interesting about these jet tips is the way they functioned... The fuel itself was injected through a series of tubing that actually ran through the rotors themselves.

The main advantage of this system was that because the rotors were being driven by thrust from their tips rather than being spun from the central shaft, there was no counter torque and thus no need for a tail rotor or other trimming mechanism.

  • @TheInversionTheory

    well said. thanks.

  • Nazis - I hate those guys. It is seriously quite disturbing, even now, just what the Nazis were designing, and building during the war. Reality shows what they were doing, and makes some of the outlandish Nazi tech featured in the 'Hellboy' comics just a bit more worrying. Good job the bastards were defeated.

  • why their so advance by that time?????

  • @30sectodeath War can accelerate technology by decades.

  • A long time ago I saw a documental film about a germany helicopter and a woman pilot making a test of it. Somebody knows it?

  • @charlesnorte

Footage of Hanna Reitsch flying the FW61 is on my other video watch?v=64fgG2CnHn0

  • @Grommo Thnak you, I´ll wacht it!

  • Was that a Nazi Food Processor? Chops, dices, and Slices Jews?

  • If it wasnt for the second world war Germany would be the leaders in all things mechanical.

  • Damn Nazis had great tech. If Hitler would have taken the time to consolidate his position instead of moving farther into the eastern front, and not try to destroy the Jews, they would probably still be around today. Never the less Germany is the defacto head of the EU now anyways. You could call it the 4th Riech.

  • @Nomoreidsleft They would never allow history to repeat itself. They learned that in the most brutal way.

  • Please watch?v=64fgG2CnHn0 to see other ww2 helicopters in action.

  • This is the real history of the first helicopter:

  • I'd have called it the head shaver.

  • are you sure its not the hydrozine ROCKET tipped rotors?

  • Nah, watch my where eagles dare part 2 vid

  • From november 1942, a flettner flew recon over the Aegean Sea from a Kriegsmarine minelayer/helicoptercarrier.

  • Yeah, you can see it all on my other video "Where Eagles Dare part 2 Real German WW2 Helicopter" in more from Grommo.

I have footage of the naval flights, recon and line transport of heavy items.

  • Helicopters saw limited use at the end of WW2. Mainly as transports of material, even behind russian lines, to german forces. The flettner was tested and found useful even at sea. A design for an anti submarine purposed surface vessel, with a pad and a flettner was made before the end of the war.

  • Helicopters were not in WW2 but helicopters were in the Korean War. I know this from watching the start of M.A.S.H. And,helicopters were the first thing to be deployed immediately after the end of WW2. And who invented helicopters? Well, the Nazis of course. Who else?

  • Umm. sorry, is that meant to be funny?

    watch?v=64fgG2CnHn0

  • Yep - I'm a comedian. And, where would we all be without all the things the Nazis invented?

  • The Germans who invented a lot of their technology weren't necessarily Nazis.

Dr Kurt Hohenempser who developed most of the flettner helicopter technology was Jewish, as was Flettner's wife. Do you think they were card carrying Nazis?

  • Its possible that they were, if they still thought at the time that the Nazis would win the war. Ha ha ha hehehe. Hmph ha he.

  • nazis i love nazis

  • lol every time a new surprise

  • The National Gas Turbine had a rig of jet-tipped blades which gave me a headache nearly all the way through my engineering apprenticeship there.

They thought that it would be the basis for the Fairey Rotodyne commuter VTOL aircraft.

Only in a world without ears...

  • Funny, that soundtrack sounds just like a Bell 47, and American machine from the Korean war...

  • giggles... probably because I didn't have an actual soundtrack of the Doblhoff ! That deserves a cigar., well spotted..

The Doblhoff had an piston engine and decent size blades so fair to imagine it would be hard for an untrained listener to tell the difference except for the shrill noise from the tip jets.

  • The thing would have sounded like 2 hi powered vacuum cleaners strapped to an out of control merry go round. Not the pleasant sound like the Bell makes. Great video, otherwise. Thanks.

  • If the Germans dabbled in the helicopter water colors why didn't they ever get the idea to put guns on them?

  • They did. The FA-223 had machine guns fitted in the nose and could carry and drop bombs.

The Fl282 observation chopper was tried with an additional rear seat and the passenger could fire weapons from this position.

  • re: spirited to the US (in title info). Spirited? Or COERCED.

  • Great post.I've been looking for WW2 German helicopter footage for ages. Thanks very much for the detailed information too.

  • very fascinating

  • Only the germans...

  • Sorry It's a bit boring folks but the brief clips were isolated from a TV story about early choppers and the film makers were probably unaware of the identity of the Doblhoff. It suggests there is probably quite a bit of footage available but its significance wasn't recognised and broadcast.
