@mack1time i really need ur help, and quick. my friend has 2 boas a male and a gorgeous female, but apparently she isnt eating, what would be the problem?
i had a Gaboon Viper ones but u know those things are dangerous soow sold him to a breeder. this thing is hard to feed and hard to clean the tank when she was in there..... well u got nice snake^^
@HotnessSearcher18 if u have the stuff to care they dont bite u its ok but dont try to catch them with u bare hands... that would be stupid.... but they dont bite fast if u have him lika a baby and have him 4 years :P
@Denizm22 That makes sense. i definitely wouldn't be handling them barehanded anyway and would use the proper hooks for them. I figure it works the same for people who care for cobras as pets.
@HotnessSearcher18 well cobras are a little diffrent they have faster reactions than a gaboon does:P soow for cobras u need 2 pare off hooks for a gaboon u need a pre hook ^^
just piked up my 09 male he is ace had a strike at me/face wen picked him up but think that was with the heat from my breath but still young and wasant handled regularly so all let him off reckon a week or 2 handling he be sound he got very nice pink and strip lovely boa
My mom has a reason to hate them. When she was younger, she was taking a hike with her sister and dad and a snake like, attacked or or something. I don't know what kind it was but for her, it was because she was young enough for it to have a life long impression. On the other hand, love snakes. It depends on the kind, though. I'll never touch a wild one (I live in Florida) but otherwise I don't mind them at all. I'll never have one though cos I love rodents and all too much to feed them to em D:
ive had corns, and ball pythons and others, and am looking for a snake a little bit bigger. something thats not hard to handle or actually dangerous, but something easy to handle, impressive and a medium size 6 1/2- 9 feet...
The trick is they like to feel comfortable in the water unless actually swimming long distance.
They need to either push out on something or coil something to avoid just floating in circles like if they were in the tub they would freak out and just try to flail and get out as fast as possible.
@mack1time mine seem to do fine the freaked out the first couple of times but figured it out after that and now will swim around like this even in the middle of the tub.
@mack1time THANK YOU!!!!!! Very good point i make all the time. Snakes are generally intimidated in a bathtub and as for absorbing moisture and humidity it's a senseless endeavor with all the open space. So many people think snakes are having fun in a tub when actually most are frantic and freaking out and with BIG snakes it's a sure invitation for a strike or a bad hit from one.
Cant wait until I move out and get my own place... Right now I have 2 Corn Snakes and I am getting another soon. I guess I am quite lucky as alot of parents wouldn't let thier kid have one... But I want 2 Boas, I want to widen my Corn Snake collection and maybe a breeding pair or BP's...
Ive just bought a baby RTD/pastel female, shes still small but can i give her lil baths like this ?? Ive got a feeding video as well as a handling video on here, so check them out n lemme kno man.
Depends tho on what they want, sometimes just colder than luke warm sometimes a bit warmer to heat up and digest their meals.
You will be able to tell if they squirm out immediately , otherwise they will chill like this and with some coaxing back into the dish they will swim around on their own
my boa will usually soak for about 30min in a fresh boal of water...then take a big shit in it. When i say fresh i mean its been in the cage for less than 1hr. ffs...
haha Boa's a great swimmers! Mine is almost six feet and when i put him in the bath tub I get soaked and splashed almost every time. They love it! Good video.
I have a question. I just bought a baby female red tail boa. Shes only about 18inches and feeding on rat pinks. And a friend of mine just gave me his red tail because he couldnt keep him anymore. Hes feeding on large adult mice or small rats. He is about 3-4 feet. Is it ok to house them together?? I have a big enough tank...Im just concerned about them fighting...But i heard they should be ok together. Just want to make sure before I introduce them...Pls let me know asap. Thanks!
omgosh..i almost shat my pants when my boa decided to go into my pond in the back yard...i didnt accually know that they could swim...so i thought she was going to drown..i had only had her for about 4 months...but then she started swimming around loving it...lol...she goes there everyday now :P
not necessaryly, and they need a reason to bite you, they do not bite without reason, and same with a dog or a cat, they might deside to bite u as well as a snake might,

yeah but you got to remember they are much more readily avaliable in canada and america, over here still yes 455 is stretching it a bit i can get them for £100 hatchlings.
i think as with humans all creatures r very diff.. my BP cuddles like a puppy...haha like all of them...but i can show her a mouse the give her my mouse smelling hand and she wont bite..im nowhere near an expert but i think once u know ur snake u know whats best for feeding and such

Let me ask you this, they get used to you taking them out to move them to a tub thinking its feeding time.
So wouldnt be taking them out to hold them associate you with moving them to food, then thinking your hands food? Same shit, except the taking them out if you DONT move them to eat, is safer.
Are they hard to look after? im thinking of getting my first snake soon, and most likely gonna get a ratsnake/ cornsnake... but i want a boa constrictor, do u think its a good idea to start off with a boa?
most get pretty big so you gotta look it as a long term pet, plus later on down the road it would be eating rabbits. I'd start with ball python but thats just me......
Ive got a 6 month old male red tail boa and i love it to death, its got the best attitude and its so laid back. shrekish is right they do get big and you will have to make room for it. My red tail boa was my first snake and i don't regret having it as my first snake at all. But its all up to you.

SO UNTRUE
If you put them in somewhere else like a tub, then feed,
What is to stop them from biting you when you go to move them back. Would'nt it associate your hand with food again just like in the cage?
Also moving a full snake is very stressfull and all stress should be avoided if at all possible
If you change water, view, handle often and not just open the cage to feed , they will be fine and not associate every opening with food!
mack1time 3 years ago
Read any book or talk to any snake expert, you are not supposed to feed them in thier cage, once you feed them it is okay to pick them up gently to put him back, just don't handle it handle it. They will get used to being fed in thier and may mistake you as food.

So that is twice the risk + undue stress

those are 2 beautifull snakes!
