  • does indiana take credit for the recordings of blind blake?

  • Greatly appreciate the posting. But you couldn't find a photo of a real police dog to use?

  • @jimbob471000 Well Jimbo, this is the Original Police Dog Blues, by Blind Blake. Sorry to say I couldn't find the Original Police Dog, but I thought a police dog is hot, so that's why he/she looks like a "hot dog"

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace Brother !

  • Rare to hear an old blues artist using harmonics. Awesome stuff.

  • @999manman Thanks, but I think Originals are the Best !

    Urban

  • @kickingmule I totally agree! Thanks for making these gems available!

  • @999manman It's me thanking You for listening !

    Peace Brother !

  • @tomkemp4000 You are so right about the sound ! I have converted this song from an old 78:rpm and I do it as an amateur, so a lot of the original sounds disappears.

    1) I play the old record on an old grammophone and record it to a tape recorder.

    2) I take the tape and put into a newer Stereo which I can connect to my computer.

    3) My program records.

So, as you see, its many steps and I loose a lot of the Original, but as a collector of old Blues, I'm used to bad recordings !

    Thanks !

  • bacon and blues, cant go wrong.

  • Blind Blake is one of the "Geechie" people. They occupied the islands from Cape Fear, NC, southward towards Jacksonville, Fl. They had their own language and culture,& he is one of the most proficient guitarists of any era.

  • @mb19512002 Thanks for a very good comment and I appreciate all the facts.

I agree, Blind Blake is outstanding !

    Peace Brother !

    Urban

  • It doesn't even seem possible these recordings actually exist, were so fortunate to get a glimpse into an unbelievable era in music.

  • @zedrein18 Yes, its possible if you collect for 40 years as I have done. I got a good collection after my Grandpa. He didnt like the records, his brother in US sent him and when he died,my relatives said. "Lets get rid of that stuff". I said, I take it all and here it is !

Thats the way it is, to keep the old blues alive.

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace !

  • (J.M.J.)

Hey kickingmule I have been reseaching for over 30 years and as far as I have been able to determine there is no real proof that Arthur "Blind" Blake (Phelps) was Florida born. No birth certificate has ever been found and also no certificate of his death either. If you have official proof that may have surfaced lately of his birth location please contact me, thanks. Jim VanDrisse

  • @jnorman111 Hi JMJ, we seem to have the same problem. Well, when it comes to facts about the old Bluesmen and Women its very hard to find correct information. I wrote Mr Blind Blake is Florida born, but I found it it in a book. Not to be trusted, so thats the way it is.

I say as you say, If you find out where he came from, please contact me.

    I don't know.

OK, I know one thing for sure.

You have the kowledge about the Blues and I thank you for the comment as well as for listening.

    Urban

  • mr blakes music sounds as good

as it did when i first heard it back in the 1960s.

he was very influential on many guitar players,

    including myself.

same goes for john hurt.willie mactell and lot of others.

great as robert johnson was he was not the only genius in town.

  • @ralphcraddock Whowver you are listening to, its Mr Blake, who make the impression in his very good git-tecnique ! Sorry to say, many try to play like him, but as I always say, Originals are the Best !

Thanks for a very good comment and listening !

    Peace Brother !

    Urban

  • Listening to a source of blues is inspiring. Thanks for this.

  • @birdie399 Yes, I agree, as an old collector of Old Traditional Blues.

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peac e Brother !

    Urban

  • Not taking anything away from the original, which is great, but Ry Cooder makes a pretty good fist of it. You can like both.

  • I assure you, I like all Blues, as long as it good !

I'm gonna listen to Ry Cooder, as you say.

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace Bro !

    Urban

  • weve got, blind lemon jefferson, blind willie mctell, blind williw johnson, but blind blake is something else!

  • Ya, you are right !

    Blind Blake is Outstanding !!!

    Peace Brother !

    Urban

  • blind as a bat, and the best there ever was. blake will never be duplicated.

  • You are so right !!!

Many try to play Policedog Blues, but nobody can duplicate Blind Blake.

Here on Youtube, you find a lot of tries ! Some are good covers, but I prefer Originals !

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace !

    Urban

  • High level playing blues at guitar, awesome technique. Thanks for sharing this golden track, I can't believe it, 1929!

  • Thanks !

I always try to upload Originals of Songs from my collection !

This one is a popular tune, among Git-Blues Lovers, so I decided to upload the Original, by Mr Blind Blake !

Thanks for the comment and listening !

  • This Blues is something every guitarist wanna play and they try hard, BUT an Original is always the best. ( Its played in open tuning D, DADF#AD )

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace.

    Urban

  • DAMN...another great song u shared with us...thanks alot mate

  • My "trademark" is Old Original Blues-Stuff and I want to share it.

Thanks for the comment and listening.

    Stay Cool !

    Urban

  • Superb. Can just about play it. Bought the 'LP' years ago and he can't be beaten

  • You are so right !

Mr Blind Blake can't be beaten, but we can try to play this good song, the best we can !!!

The best thing is, We Keep The Old Blues Alive, just my intention here on Youtube !

Thanks for the comment and listening !

    Peace !

    Urban

  • This song was an unusual style for Blake, not hsi usual 2/4 rag, but folky claw hammer, with added boogie bass. His regular tuning in most songs was owered to Eb, simply to make it easier to play. BTW, he was also a very good pianist.

  • Thanks for all good information.

Makes me glad. You are never too old to learn, but play like Blake, you probably need a Life time, I think ? So, unique sound !!!

    Peace Brother

  • Pick issue: He used a thumb pick, and no other picks, but his finger nails. He also picked with all fingers amd thumb. He was the best, in a league of his own. Under-esteemed as a singer.

  • You are right, so I agree :

He was the best, in a league of his own.

    Well formulated !!!

    Peace Bro !

  • Effortless polished technique - sounding improvisations are amazing . We all will be imitators , but never equal one of the greatest rag and blues guitarists . BB b 1895 d 1937 Jacksonville Florida .

  • We can perhaps imitate, but we never get close to the original, BUT we can play the tune and perhaps have some fun and above all keeping the good song alive !

    Peace My Friend !

    Urban

  • Some musician said that he think that Blake wore picks for his fingerpicking playing. I'd say that's true cause some of the songs he's done on the guitar you can hear a strong percussive sound which the picks are much louder than your bare fingers. Great video one of my favorite Blind Blake tunes.

  • Perhaps you are right about, Blake was using picks, but I think the sound depends on the guitar is tuned in an open D and open tunings always give a special sound. I'm not sure and I don't know, but

Thanks for a good comment and listening.

    Peace Brother !

    Urban

  • PERFECT. Always sounds like 2 people playing he is so damn good. I first bought this on a Biograph LP in 1969 which I still have and it NEVER gets old. PERFECT.

  • Good music and performers never get old.

Thanks for the comment and listening

    Peace.

    Urban

  • Just now found this. Awsome Good Stuff!

KUDOS & ***** All the best my friend!

  • I always say, Originals are the best and the Best is Blind Blake, so

Thanks for the comment and listening.

    Peace Brother.

    Urban

  • Yes!

  • Thanks, Blind Blake is the best you can listen to as it comes to East Coast Blues/Rag.

Ya, this Florida born man is an East Coast Bluesman, but moved later to Chicago as all the others.

  • Brilliant, thanks for this Urban!

    Regards,

    Gus

  • Thanks Gus. I'm on the road again, so thanks for your support.

    The Blues never dies.

    Peace.
