This is wonderful! Not just the recipe, but the fact that everyone from so many cultures have joined in. And that's the whole point! :> Every country and culture has it's version from the same recipe idea. Hey, let's not argue over recipe territory, let's all make, share, eat and enjoy (food tastes better when you share it) !
Actually it is the most tradtional dish of the Jewish culture in Channuka. in Israel they're called Sufganyah סופגניה. Most Israelis are sure it's a Jewish dish, and that other people don't have it. Cool to see this.
What a nice Video. And I too love this kind of pastry and they are so good. This pastry is very popular among the Jewish people and they are called "Sufganiyot" ! Shalom
We used to be able to buy something similar here; the Germans brought them. I like the raspberry filling and custard, an older variety that tastes better than what they use now. The bakery that made them best rolled them in granulated sugar, and the filling had to be forced in with a pastry bag and tip. We kids called them berliners, but I think the correct name was Bismarcks. Found a recipe and think you can get the original raspberry filling from amazon or maybe Wilton. Can use jam too.
actually those Krapfen are called "Berliner Pfannkuchen" (berlin pancakes), but they are called differently in the western ("Gräbbel", "Puffel"), eastern ("Pfannkuchen"), southern ("Krapfen"), northern ("Berliner") parts of Germany.... :)
But if you say Krapfen or Berliner, everyone knows what it is :)
so.... who did we steal this from? from the austrians or the italians? I think argentinian pastry comes from the swiss-german one.
krapfen are called "bolas de fraile" in argentina (hmm the name has nothing to do with the real one though... argentinian bakers were anarchist or communist and that's why krapfen are called "big-fat friars" :P)
they are filled with dulce de leche or pastry cream
@YourAsianMusic actually both krapfen and bombolone originate from germany, not from italy. and it's not theft it's just a different f*cking language. bon appétit!
@resuahnrok Here they are...and when it's December, theres a special market in Vienna, we call it "Christkindlmarkt" There are so much specialities there, and they make them fresh in front of you. Very nice!
you kids are so cute !! i'm eating my Krapfen like you haha
Gorgeous! Thanks a lot; favourited, and I hope it's okay that I embedded this video in my blog - I needed some explanatory footage on what Krapfen are, and Clara did SUCH a good job with that :-)))!
