  • gracie could make the most flat , mundane comment so funny

  • Oh good grief. Get your facts straight about black slang.

  • What's that songs name on 0:46?

  • Say "Si Si"

  • Thank you very much!

  • ...and it's ANDREWS... not ANDREW.

  • You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! My error. So now I have to think about what to do, since I HATE spelling errors. Do I remove the clip or just let it go? Hmmmmmmm?

  • Is that Cary Grant as the thug?

  • No, that is Sheldon Leonard. He was in a lot of movies, but my fav was as the bartender "Nick" in It's a Wonderful Life "... or will I have to slip you my left as a convincer." usually the tuff guy...

  • this is the first time i herd of this lady i am glad that my teacher told me about her

  • keep watching. it only gets better

  • I personally enjoyed the whole thing.

Btw, Boogie Woogie was a term used in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by blacks in the American South to refer to secondary syphilis or pubic lice.

I suspect it was more commonly the lice which was a condition frequently experienced by soldiers in europe during WWI-II.

So the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy with the terrible itch in his crotch would have had some rather strange and frantic movements when he played.

    Hence the dance style.

  • and to think of all these old farts talking about the younger generation like the older generation walked on air or some shit. whatta crocka

  • Uh huh, and when you're an old fart you'll do the same.

  • no, I wont , im already forty and some of these people probably have more progressive Grandmothers then themselves. Im not an old crotch crust in the first place. I know how to share my own interests and pass them on to others, and expand my own palate of interests to that what is modern.

    in other words, normal

  • Still young.

  • nerve saw

  • Besides that I was pointing out the the ANDREWS SISTERS if thats really what this song was about , were then not the saints the old crusts like to portay because they are pissed because they saw britneys titneys, or paris' pussy.

  • If you mean a case of Boogie Woogie, they most likely wouldn't have known what it was about.

Whites also didn't know that Jellyroll as in Jellyroll Blues referred to the female sex organ.

When blacks in America couldn't speak freely to, or in the presence of whites they practiced circumlocution and slang.

Black musicians could mock whites by doing so and it wasn't uncommon for whites to applaud and cheer at things said without recognizing the insult.

  • The movements in the dance can appear to be obvious when the meaning is explained but most people today and certainly most then would not recognize what those movements represent.

  • the movements yes, but if you look at the rest of the text of the song there are no other hints about crotch crickets.

  • There is a longer version of the Andrews Sisters doing the same song and dance on youtube and the movements are even more telling.

But the song isn't about veneral disease.

It's just that the term was.

Like a lot of other styles this one to was stolen by whites from blacks though some would dispute the claim.

  • You COULD just tell everyone to move the slider about a quarter of the way in. That's what I did. (I wanted to blow your brains out, but somebody beat me to it.)

  • "Don't be a stool-pigeon, LaVerne!!"

  • No--it's WAY too annoying--like a YouTube bait-and-switch. If you want to post an Andrews Sister clip, post an Andrews Sister clip. If you want to post a history lesson, call it "A History Lesson. BUT LEAVE GRACIE ALONE!

  • Okay. How about if I re-title it this way for the ignorant viewer:

GRACIE ALLEN - STARTING WITH AN ANNOYING HISTORY LESSON ABOUT THE ANDREW SISTERS FOR ALL YOU DUMB-ASSES WHO DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT THEM, BUT NEED, IN ORDER TO "GET" THE JOKE IN THE BURNS AND ALLEN VIDEO-SECTION WHICH IS IN BLACK AND WHITE AS APPOSED TO THE ANDREW SISTERS PART THAT I COLORED IN SEPIA, ANOTHER WORD THAT YOU PROBABLY DON'T UNDERSTAND

Mitch.. you DO understand that I'm joking with you?

  • Rodan,

Why do you feel that you must justify your actions to this mitch--guy?

  • Ahhh... What does it take? - - A minute of my time... ...to be nice!

  • ANDREWS!!! WITH AN "S"!!!!!

  • No, It's Lisa with a "S"... Tee Hee..

You are correct. I must now go out back and shoot myself!

  • That's annoying. Why does this Gracie Allen tribute start out with the Andrews Sisters?

  • It's a history lesson, so that a dumb clip-watcher can learn who the Andrew Sisters were, since they are referenced by George & Gracie in the clip [as a joke]... "Gracie, Blanche, & LaVerne."

Sometimes ya gotta watch the "short" before the "main feature"!!

    I hope you weren't too annoyed. God - I wouldn't want THAT. ;-}

  • And... this was an exercise for me in editing. I realize that I got carried away with the Andrews part, but.. ehhh - that's the way it came out. I will try to stick to the subject with my next "Gracie" clip.

  • So... Did you at least like the George & Gracie section?
