I bankrupted myself as a kid to buy a set of these in the late 70s (when they were black label) but have never regretted it and still have them today - I've never heard hi-hats that surpass these and still love their sound
this bothers me, i recently learnd that paiste it pronounced pie-stee i always heard and thought it was paste-ee, now it just sounds wierd when i say it cause i sound british.........
I like the sound of the sound edges... Pleased to own one myself, and I've been very satisfied. Although, I feel that when I'm tapping with my foot, it needs to be opened less to get the sound I want :)
I think hats with the ruffled edges were really bad idea, altering the shape of the cymbal is just a bad idea, I think the Idea of putting a couple of holes i the bottom is the better idea.
Given that pro player's use hi-hats with sound edges, clearly not a bad idea. It's just a different sound and it seems to be it's not one that you prefer. Truth be told I use the 14" Crunch hat's as my main, just have the sound edges on another stand kept closed for dbl kick beats.
Really? I find the sound edge makes them much brighter sounding than the normal cymbals, too bright for my tastes in a high hat. You also lose some subtlety in your foot work as air can always escape out the sound edges, you cant control it from being just a little to full open.
That's why I prefer The Zildjian A Custom Quick Beats, Sabian AA Fast Hats, or the Mienl Byzance Fast Hats. The holes in the bottom/top and bottom gives it a bright tone and a very definite 'chick' sound.
I have the same preference for high-end cymbal sounds - whether it be a ride, a crash or hi-hats...I prefer the heaviness of a 24" ride - but I have found that beyond 20", the sound usually gets too deep for me...I like the Paiste 2002 20" power ride - heavy but still somewhat bright...have you heard the Paiste 14"Signature fast crash? - sounds sweet to me (check it here on YT)...my old Paiste 2002 16" crashes had enough of a high-end sound and were versatile enough for slower songs...
@Eatenbyazack5150 umm. these are really high end cymbals..they're actually almost 400 $ a pair..so, yeah high end cymbals..i'm curious to see what you think are high end cymbals??..i've been playing for 23 yrs and know , and have tried every brand of cymbals, and these are definitely top of the line !!
Get sabian so you're not copying me :P no really, go to your music store and have them set up a kit with both, have them play it while you stand back and listen. Go with your gut on what you like. The right choice is the one that makes you happy.
Hey im not doggin them. They have great character and their own personality. Thats all im sayin bro. Say what you want about me becuase i dont know u neither do you know me so its whatever. Its my opinion so deal with it
alright i get what you sayin, but u need to remember that theres no mics so its not gonna sound just like this.. believe me they are amazing in real life
i wouldnt say any whole brand sucks, they all have something to offer i could easily make several different sets complete with any brand and be happy with all of em
So you're a snob, feel good about yourself? If you cant hear the character that the 2002's have, maybe you should start wearing ear plugs while you play from now on ;)
Really they are B8 and B10? Anytime I play 2002's in a shop they are the crispest, shimmeriest , full bodied crashes I have heard, even compared to AAX and A customs. I love the 2002 crashes, hi hats not so much.
I disagree. Zildjian definitely sucks, I'll give you that, but I think Sabian is the best. then Paiste. I've only played Meinl HCS, which suck, but I doubt there good cymbals sounds that bad. Give Sabian a try, there amazing.
Seriously, Sabian is really good cymbals but it's totally obvious that you must buy them ONLY in real shop when you can select them by ear. Paistes may be bought by internet because they sounds just like you hear it on their site. It may be a serious problem for you, if you live in the fuckin hole, like me. ;)))
I have some 14" Paiste 2002 Sound Edge hats. They sound exceptionally nice when playing "live".
I respect the other cymbal companies out there, and I know that choosing a cymbal is subjective and all. But, in my personal opinion, nothing tops Paiste! I always get compliments on the sound of my cymbals. They're so pure & clean sounding.
Oh no doubt, I went through some zildjians and meinls before settling on Paiste. Hit a few sabian's in the store and didn't give them a second thought. Zildjian K custom's were alright but didn't suit the band I started to play with so I got meinls, they're like a step above zildjian but not quite a paiste ;)
$1800. They were designed to be more vintage sounding, and I really like them compared to the Taye Rock Pro's I started with which were really good for an entry level kit. But of course you know the heads and how you tune them play the biggest part of the sound for any kit thats worth the wood its made of. The camera mic doesn't do the kit any justice either.
Yeah... so if I was.... something wrong with that? lol. I'm playing them like I'm giving a sound sample and I don't really have a beat to play so its all improv...
About a year old now. I'm really easy on my drums and cymbals, proper technique gives you all the sound you need without hurting anything. 5A hickory drum sticks last me months they just wear down slowly until like a toothpick and eventually fracture. I use these hats always closed for dbl bass beats so they don't take much abuse at all, pretty much like new. My main hats are paiste 2002 crunch 14". all my cymbals are 2002. Some are 2 years old and will not crack (crash).
