This song was not made for anette to sing, it's a shame they made her try even. I understand nightwish want's to carry on their older content, but tarja and anette are completely different singer's. Hearing anette trying to pull this off is just a embarrassment. I like anette, so i ain;t hating on her talent, just she ain't a tarja and tarja ain't anette.

They liked her but was unsure because she had a kid and didn't want to keep her from him. She was one of the first people to audition and no one should just take the first one, they looked at everyone then decided on her. The band is much happier with her anyway, so what does it matter what we think?

Not for sale of course cuz if she did, then the sales would be divided by two (those picking Annette's version and those Tarja's one). LOL

@666luciendar666 I said it before, and I'll say it again: there such great voices out there that are not opera oriented! Anette does have a good voice, but I believe that she and her voice aren't compatible at all with what Nightwish is about musically! And for a voice to be beautiful and make a song come to life... has nothing to do with range or any of that! Anette, may have no limits but there's nothing unique or special about her voice, which would be in fact what NW needs!

@1by1budo Have you even heard Imaginaerum? Tarja couldn't have done any of those songs like Anette did. Like I said before, I love Tarja's voice. I'm a Symphonic Power Metal fanatic and her voice is perfect yes, but Nightwish wanted to experiment and Anette is skilled enough that she can actually do more with her voice than Opera unlike Tarja. I just love Nightwish in general, I love ALL of their music because it is ALL good LIVE and on the record.
@ahudson099 Yes, I did listen to it! I can say it's better than DPP! I don't deny that Anette has a good voice, I just think that NW deserves something more than just good! Whenever she sings live, I just don't feel anything from her and, as I said, many times the instrumental covers her! And maybe Tarja could have sung the Imaginaerum songs... you never know! We shouldn't underestimate anyone! We might get a suprise, bad or good!

You guys do realize that TUOMAS wrote Dark Passion Play before they even hired Anette. The song's weren't designed for anyone in particular. You guys should also realize that TUOMAS is the creative genius behind Nightwish. TUOMAS is the reason the band even exists. If you think Tarja was the reason, look at her solo career: She is going downhill and no one hardly knows her (outside of Nightwish) and Nightwish is just getting bigger. Anette is amazing and you guys are just close minded.

@ahudson099 sorry but thinking someone sings terrible (and having evidence of it) is not being close-minded. In fact, when she 1st sent her demo to the group, they immediately discarded her. She had to send a DVD of herself and insist a lot and they finally took her. But certainly not for her "singing skills". She can thank "vocoder" and other voice corrector softwares because in live she is just a very poor singer.

Honestly Nightwish made steps to urgently substitute one of (if not "THE") very best female rock voices ever and they definitely failed. Despite this the "Dark passion..." album is one of their bests and they were very cunningly design the vocal parts not to challenge too much Anette. I've seen this formation freshly, back in 2007 and experienced that Anette decently sings the nee album but forces to do the very same like in this video with the killing Tarja themes...Tarja should be back anyway!
As a fan of music, much like every poster on here, I hate seeing certain members leave or die. Sure, it would be cool to have bands continue on with all the same members. As I get older I just think how much my life would suck if I didn't get a few years of great music from some of my own personal favorites. It's best to get over that certain people left a band... No matter what band it is!
I love all the Anette haters, they make me laugh because it makes me wonder, can they sing it any better? Imagine replacing someone like Tarja... I think she does a fine job on this song and most of the others most of the time. No musician is perfect, they are human just like us.

I believe Annette is a great singer, but to put her sing old Tarja songs is not an appropriate thing. The ranges and vocal styles are VERY different. She has to stick to the new songs or sing Sleeping Sun. That's it. Anyways, she's better than the crap you get on the radio...
People are so mean....they don't have lives of their own, so they transform a tiny mistake that could have happened for a number of reasons (including that she had to swallow saliva, trust me, I know, I am a singer) into a reason to, once again, compare a contemporary singer to an opera singer. It's like comparing Courtney Love to Amy Lee.

I'm the first to say I like Tarja much better than Annette and think she's a much stronger and more unique vocalist, but honestly people give Annette way too much crap. She's just a lady who loves to sing, has a fine voice and some quality vocal training, loves her band, and wants to continue doing what she loves. I have nothing but respect for her because if I tried to join a favorite band after the lead left, I would want to be appreciated for my differences and not constantly compared.

I'm sure there are other factors attributing to why they play older songs. Not to mention that it isn't fair to the guys to just forget all their previous hard work just because of a vocalist change.
@Evaxlacrymosa Well, usually a group is know by the singer and Tarja was quite charismatic one, Many groups who changed their singers went to the oblivion Dire Strait, The doors, QUEEN. They would be still kinda famous for the ones who didn't hear the past songs, Like Doven when they changed their style, and gather new fans but still the comparision isn't easy to avoid. You may like the actual singer, but the old fans -most of them- will not.
Also let's say Anette and Tarja are too different.
I think it's funny how Tarja sooner or later was going to quit the band and go solo anyway, and the ENTIRE BAND fired her. Tarja was literally just butt hurt about being kicked out the way she did. Yeah, the band probably could have handled it better, but still, Tarja wouldn't be in the band today anyway if they hadn't fired her. Quit saying you want Tarja back because the fact is she was never in it for the long haul anyway.

Which Anette is guilty of as well. You have seen her solo album demos on YT have you not? Why if she hadn't gotten knocked up during the break from NW - she would have released her album - a feat she would never have been able to (her previous band was FAIL) without her rise to fame as lead singer of Nightwish.

@1by1budo watch the Tarja interview right after being fired. The one where she's crying. She said she knew that after Once she would go. I think it was her decision. So the band decided to leapfrog her by releasing a public letter because if she had announced it herself it would have appeared as "Tarja is leaving Nightwish". That way, Tuomas made the whole world believe he was the ONE taking the decisions. If that had been true he would have talked to her 1st, not with a public letter on the net

Tarja sounds like Tarja...Anette sounds like Anette, now to put all confusion to rest as to why, it is because because they are two different people whom do not need to sound like anyone else but them self. I realize this might be a tricky concept to grasp for some people, but their vocal chords, personalities, and life styles are their own too. To compare both, is to insult both...they don't require anyone's permission to be them self. Nightwish is a band, not a person. Take care :)

Anette does have a good voice, but I believe that she and her voice aren't compatible at all with what Nightwish is about musically! And for a voice to be beautiful and make a song come to life... has nothing to do with range or any of that! Anette, may have no limits but there's nothing unique or special about her voice, which would be in fact what NW needs!

@1by1budo Have you even heard Imaginaerum? Tarja couldn't have done any of those songs like Anette did. Like I said before, I love Tarja's voice. I'm a Symphonic Power Metal fanatic and her voice is perfect yes, but Nightwish wanted to experiment and Anette is skilled enough that she can actually do more with her voice than Opera unlike Tarja. I just love Nightwish in general, I love ALL of their music because it is ALL good LIVE and on the record.

Whenever she sings live, I just don't feel anything from her and, as I said, many times the instrumental covers her! And maybe Tarja could have sung the Imaginaerum songs... you never know! You guys do realize that TUOMAS wrote Dark Passion Play before they even hired Anette. The song's weren't designed for anyone in particular. You guys should also realize that TUOMAS is the creative genius behind Nightwish. TUOMAS is the reason the band even exists. If you think Tarja was the reason, look at her solo career: She is going downhill and no one hardly knows her (outside of Nightwish) and Nightwish is just getting bigger. Anette is amazing and you guys are just close minded.

@ahudson099 sorry but thinking someone sings terrible (and having evidence of it) is not being close-minded. In fact, when she 1st sent her demo to the group, they immediately discarded her. She had to send a DVD of herself and insist a lot and they finally took her. But certainly not for her "singing skills". She can thank "vocoder" and other voice corrector softwares because in live she is just a very poor singer.

Honestly Nightwish made steps to urgently substitute one of (if not "THE") very best female rock voices ever and they definitely failed. Despite this the "Dark passion..." album is one of their bests and they were very cunningly design the vocal parts not to challenge too much Anette. I've seen this formation freshly, back in 2007 and experienced that Anette decently sings the nee album but forces to do the very same like in this video with the killing Tarja themes...Tarja should be back anyway!

As a fan of music, much like every poster on here, I hate seeing certain members leave or die. Sure, it would be cool to have bands continue on with all the same members. As I get older I just think how much my life would suck if I didn't get a few years of great music from some of my own personal favorites. It's best to get over that certain people left a band... I believe Annette is a great singer, but to put her sing old Tarja songs is not an appropriate thing. The ranges and vocal styles are VERY different. She has to stick to the new songs or sing Sleeping Sun. That's it. Anyways, she's better than the crap you get on the radio...

I'm the first to say I like Tarja much better than Annette and think she's a much stronger and more unique vocalist, but honestly people give Annette way too much crap. She's just a lady who loves to sing, has a fine voice and some quality vocal training, loves her band, and wants to continue doing what she loves. I have nothing but respect for her because if I tried to join a favorite band after the lead left, I would want to be appreciated for my differences and not constantly compared.

I'm sure there are other factors attributing to why they play older songs. Not to mention that it isn't fair to the guys to just forget all their previous hard work just because of a vocalist change.

They would be still kinda famous for the ones who didn't hear the past songs, Like Doven when they changed their style, and gather new fans but still the comparision isn't easy to avoid. You may like the actual singer, but the old fans -most of them- will not.
Also let's say Anette and Tarja are too different.

I think it's funny how Tarja sooner or later was going to quit the band and go solo anyway, and the ENTIRE BAND fired her. Tarja was literally just butt hurt about being kicked out the way she did. Yeah, the band probably could have handled it better, but still, Tarja wouldn't be in the band today anyway if they hadn't fired her. @1by1budo watch the Tarja interview right after being fired. The one where she's crying. She said she knew that after Once she would go. I think it was her decision. So the band decided to leapfrog her by releasing a public letter because if she had announced it herself it would have appeared as "Tarja is leaving Nightwish". That way, Tuomas made the whole world believe he was the ONE taking the decisions. If that had been true he would have talked to her 1st, not with a public letter on the net
