  • Dude. You know he is a BOSS because he beat Caan, Duvall AND Pacino for the freakin' GODFATHER!!!

  • Diana Ross was nominated the same night and lost to Liza Minnelli also for 'Cabaret' But in the video of Liza winning, Ross wearing a completely different outfit to the one in this video! I wonder Why???

  • gee, i think that liza is a bit excited to see joel grey win...

  • Robert Duvall is pissed :D

  • Liza's reaction is flawless :)

  • Some of the nominees looked so mean back then

  • I wanted Eddie Albert, but Joel is okay too :)

  • Look at Liza. She looked so happy for him :)

  • Just watched Cabaret last night... he was so not worthy to have even been nominated.. Should have gone to James Caan

  • @KrueMann1992 You obviously don´t know a great performance.

  • James Coburn and his teeth = Yummy! Joel Grey continues to be an amazing actor.

  • Robert Duvall looks livid...

  • I love his smile!

    Go Joel :D

  • I love how Liza just freaks out! What an amazing musical.

  • Damn, you must have some acting chops if you beat 3 actors nominated for the same movie that is quite possibly the greatest film ever made.

  • Joel Grey was Anthony Newley's standby in Stop the World I Want to Get Off and for many other stars in many shows. It is wonderful that he was finally acknowledged for his talent.

  • I'm glad he managed to wash all that make-up off. I did wonder if he'd ever be able to!

  • Liza was so cute when he won <3 haha

  • Al Pacino should have won. Nuff said.

  • @ps3fan4life007 Probably he would have if they hadn't divided the voters by nominating 3 cast members. It was a dumb move that I can only assume reflects the egos of the actors. In any case, Grey was great so it's all good.

  • Joel Grey didnt speak a word. He sang. He sang alot and with that told alot !

  • Bobby Duvall doesn't look too happy...

  • omg, he's so young here lol

  • @ezekielg444 he was 40

  • Should have been Caan for best supporting and Pacino for best lead. I mean, Joel Grey was excellent and he's a hell of an actor, but Caan deserved it more...and Pacino wasn't supporting on the Godfather, he was lead.

  • Robert Duvall's face when he lost...

  • @Jenna10227 i had to go back to see it again, lol. What a sore loser!

  • @Jenna10227 I was just flicking though looking for cabaret songs for a project im doing and just clicked my way here and and was going to coment on Robert Duval's face looking disgusted as though he though it was his by right and when he clapped if thats what you can call it ,i think he'd of rather of had his arms torn off at the shoulders than actually applaud a better performer in that paticular time and place but that was real distane on his face,

  • should have been pacino

  • Id've considered both Pacino and Brando in the leading role, and Brando deservedly won. If Pacino was supporting, I'm in two minds over whether Joel Grey deserved it more or Pacino did. But it all worked out, they're both Oscar winners now.

  • he deserves an oscar every year...even if he wasnt in anything

  • Wow, Liza sure looks happy :)

  • He was absolutely brilliant in Cabaret. He totally deserved it. Amazing actor. You can tell how good he is just looking at this footage. Ultimate proffessional.

  • Is Michael Corleone a supporting role?! I think, Vito Corleone IS a supporting role.

The entire movie is about Michael's way from a boyscout to The Godfather.

  • Award robert duvall should

  • he fully deserved it, he was absolutely brilliant as the creepy MC

  • CAAN????

  • Well deserved!!

  • someone from the Godfather should have won

  • lol, i love duvall, watch his face when they announce the winner at 0:45. classic

  • Woah there Liza. Calm down.

  • @nickzancafilms Lmaoo I thought the same thing, I was like she's laughing hysterically like she didn't think he was gunna win...

  • ah he's so sweet and charming ;)

  • robert duvall was pissed haha

  • Pacino should've been nominated for leading role and won. then all that shit with Brando would be avoided

  • Emcee's got a fro!!!!

  • why didnt they put ic of al pacino when they announced him

  • All the other nominees except James Cann won best actor oscars later and one of the presenters James Coburn was to later win a best supporting oscar. Joel was outstanding in Cabaret.

  • God Bless You Joel Grey!! Cabaret is my absolute favorite musical of all time.

  • i think he meant to say al pacino

  • Robert Duvall is always so pissed when he loses. He's so full of himself.

  • This award should have went to Al Pacino. His performance as Michael Corleone is amazing and probably the best i've seen

  • Take a look at Robert Duvall after Joel won. He looks really pissed of.

  • Robert Duvall looks mighty pissed. What a delusion if he thought he should have won. This was a one person contest and the Academy made the right choice.

  • What most don't know about Joel Grey is that he played Chiun, the marshall arts teacher for Fred Ward in Remo Williams. Yes the little Chinese guy that could do anything.

  • I met Joel Grey by chance one time. He was seated in front of me at a performance of Beauty and the Beast on broadway. I saw him when we first sat down in the theater and remember thinking he looked awfully familiar, but (LOL) couldn't place a name to the face. Before the end of act one it hit me and I felt like an idiot. I introduced myself at intermission and asked for an autograph. He was very gracious and we talked during the entire intermission like friends. He was there for Tony voting.

  • @lumiereus Lucky you! :)

  • where did you get this from???

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen this is the official Oscars channel, they have everything

  • I cannot wait until next year when Joel Grey comes back to Broadway for the revival of Anything Goes! He is SOOOO amazing and I am extremely happy that he won the Oscar!

Only 1 of 7 actors who won the Tony and the Oscar for the same role!

  • Gay? LOL... He's Jennifer Grey's father! Yes... the one who just won DWTS; Baby from Dirty Dancing.

  • Oh my God, I LOOOOVE that Joel Grey won - he was fantastic in that part! And I'm sorry, but he's so adorable! He's just the sweetest guy, and his character was such a slime... this time the Academy got it RIGHT!

  • @MissLizaMay you're a fool the academy has made a long list of bad selections and this is one of them

  • James Caan all the way!!

  • I ca';t get over why are so many guidos think that Pacino should have won every single time he was nominated+scarface?

  • I think Pacino really deserved it, but I did enjoy every second Joel Grey was on the screen for Cabaret. He was even named, I believe they named him "Master of Ceremonies" in the credits. lmfao.

  • Okay... I saw Liza kicking his chair... that was priceless... I loved it!

  • I just saw Grey in House MD, and I saw what a powerful actor he is. Deserved but should have split witch Pacino...

  • Did you notice Robert Duvalls expression right when they announced Joel Gray? Looked mighty pissed,,hahahaha. Joel and all the Godfather guys deserved it.

  • his WIFE? I thought he was gay

  • @grai

He was married for 24 years and had two children.

  • @grai that never stopped half the men in that or any audience !!

  • A magnificent performance by Grey but, the performances of Caan, Duvall and Pacino were iconic.

  • Wow ! great movie and Grey totally deserves this. Outstanding movie !!!

  • One of my favorite supporting actor wins. SO so deserved.

  • I really liked "Cabaret" and Joel Grey turned in a fantastic performance, but Pacino should have won IMO.

  • Wow, Robert Duvall looks PISSED and Liza's having a blast. Too bad Grey's career went nowhere.

  • @gingerbreadcorpses

Not necessarily, as he did have an impressive stage career afterwards...

  • @gingerbreadcorpses he does indeed look extremely pissed. if only he'd use that anger in a performance, he might get nominated again.

  • @gws51284 um Duvall has been nominated several times since then and won. But just incase you already knew that, there is talks of him being nominated this year for his performance in Get Low.

  • @gingerbreadcorpses At least he has a talented daughter Jennifer Grey who was in Dirty Dancing and dancing on Dancing With the Stars.

  • @gingerbreadcorpses He also has won a Golden Globe and a Tony, and has been in plays and movies throughout the years. He recently published a book of his photography. His career HAS gone somewhere.

  • Pareciera que ni él mismo se lo esperaba, pero sin duda alguna un reconocimiento muy merecido.

  • what the hell is Diana wearing??

  • It sucks that Cabaret and The Godfather where released in the same year. Godfather would have dominated any other time. Still prefer Cabaret though.

  • First comment : Thanks for posting this clip, I guess the three 'Godfather' nominations cancelled each other .out .. Al Pacino should've been nominated in the Lead Category, James Caan would've probably won (he looked fine in this clip, by the way, smiling and fair play, Duvall looked so tense, he sure was disappointed to lose ...) I liked Joel Grey in Cabaret, but in all due respect, it's nothing compared to the performances of Vito's three sons

  • MISS Ross was a throwback to old time stars like Crawford. Check out that outfit! Now go to Liza's win later that night and see Ross in totally different outfit!! One thing for presenting, another for winning!

  • I don't care what The Godfather fans say: This was one of the most deserved wins in the history of the Academy Awards.

  • Wow, all that stuff after the actors name like the studio and distributor were REALLY not needed and luckily quickly done away with.

  • ill never be able to figure out how joel gray won this. i can't recall any moment in his performance that struck me as 'well acted.' he was eerie in it, but really, he just sang and dance and smiled. did he even speak once?

  • Finally!! thank you so much AMPAS!! Mr Grey's performance so deserved that oscar

His emcee was perfectly done, showing the changes everyone suffered during the rise of the third reich
