Russ is likely still alive, if you read about the primarchs you'd see that they are rather hard to kill, and he wouldn't be a daemon prince because the Space Wolves are noted for being particularly resistant to corruption and chaos. Besides if he was a Prince he would have already tried to corrupt the Chapter or take some sort of action against the Imperium. I think he is still alive, as for the Emperor, look up the Star Child Theory, it's one of the possibilities.

@nemis010 There are lot of posibilites indeed. Chaos is the easy way also, but Russ is a worthy oponent. I don't think that he has fallen that low to be a chaos followet, but maybe, one day.
