I got panic attacks... I don't know if they came from alcohol, but I get them and I would drink some times to escape them. and then I would DEFINITELY get them with the hangover as a result of alcohol. They're interlinked for me. Panic attacks are awful. I wouldn't wish them on anyone. This is such an important documentary and I think it has saved lives.
I can relate to the guy so much. Im physicaly dependant on alcohol and being selfish did not get me this way. Im from the inner city in Dublin, Ireland and society and enviournment have me the way i am and maybe genetics and then life experience from were i grew up. Alcoholics dont want pity all we want is to be understood. Iv being in pubs are far back as i can remember. Like the guy in the video i have relapsed a few times im only 22 its hard to accept i cant drink alcohol. It a fight for life
@dublinwarrior I have been drinking since the age of 12. Been drinking hardcore since 15. Im 22 now as well. I tried to quit a few times and relapsed. I grew up in America but its pretty much the same story. My dad is an alche. My friends and I grew up drinking all the time. Recently I was up to about 3 pints of liquor a day. Im 9 days clean now and thats the longest Ive been clean in years.
@guitarfuckist Im 37 days sober now and life is becoming alot more managable. Its just weekends and going to clubs thats hard now. I dont wana become a recluse so i have to learn to go to these drinking environments and still not drink. I miss the fun of getting drunk and just doing what most young men do where im from but it aint worth the pain and suffering i go through when the drink wears off. I wish you the best of luck in your recovery and hope that not drinking will open the right doors.
so many people dont understand because those who find ourselves in this situation are ,as she says in a "dark and private place" You can't just snap out of it. Selfish and brutal you certainly become, but it is a product of what you have experienced...and , if you like, a request for a short life
Alcohol(ism) makes one selfish, not the person without alcohol.
Mark is crying out loud for help, he's very desperate and doesn't know how to ask and what to do. One way is to cut himself so badly and afterwards show the camera (the viewers) his wounds. With that, he's letting us try to understand the hell he is living in. To me his hell already was very clear by the way how he drinks.
It's so heartbreaking to see how he's killing himself.
alcoholics are selfish, very selfish and before any hater's start with the come backs to my comment Iam a specialist in this field...I don't care if you think my comment is wrong because it is true...it's all about I,Self, Me...it's the disease of "Alchoholism" that causes it not that the person is intending to be that way...
123Chimmy321 Yes, alcoholics are selfish when theyre drinking. But when sober many are some of the most giving, caring, and loving people there are.Not to mention,Most addicts of any kind are very intelligent. Most dont make the wisest decisions though,I sure havent.
@SethHesio No, I don't believe so. Should I?Is it about addiction? Also, where can I find it.
Thanks and goodluck.I have had Panic Attacks and there torture!Worse yet(Believe or not) is the D.T.s.Once in jail the cops got sick of me screaming out,but I was seeing all kinds of crap.He said you scream again we'll give ya something to scream about.Few minutes past & I looked at my leg,the leg hair seemed like black worms coming out of Leg.They beat me with sticks and I went in a seizure.woke @ hosp.
@scumgod13 That sounds like a living hell man. Luckily the worst I ever had with the DT's was the shakes and very very mild hallucinations. Having read what you just wrote I would say you should DEFINITELY see The Lost Weekend. It's a 1945 film about an alcoholic who relapses. It's unbelievably good. The alcohol industry actually tried to buy the film and get it banned lol. It's available from any DVD store. That's where I got mine. How are you doing now adays? Thanks for the reply btw :)
@SethHesio I will definitely check it out. Did you know back in the day when they brought Alcoholics in DTs to the Hospital that they were sometimes treated with LSD in hopes of scaring them out of drinking again.Yes,I have been strapped down and watched the whole wall as if it was a TV showing me indescribable sights. They had me on the 6th floor with mental patients.I have slipped up 3 times in the last 10 yrs the last being in 2006.You ok now?
@scumgod13 That sounds like a recipe for absolute disaster. Giving someone crashing from alcohol abuse LSD? Jesus. Should be a film made about that, sounds amazing.. in a terrifying way. I've had my problems, I'm on the mend now. I was sober for 3 months then binged over Christmas. I had a moment, well 2 days at the beginning of this year where I had no control over what I was doing. I was amazed that I wasn't arrested or killed. And I'm not exaggerating. I'd class myself as a binge drinker.
@scumgod13 And basically on the 3rd or 4th of January this year I went back to my doctor (I'm in the UK so we have a GP) and asked her if I should go onto librium to ease myself off of the booze. But since I was classed more as a binge drinker, and this had been a relapse rather than a case of prolonged chronic drinking I was put on a course of valium for a few weeks. I feel amazing now and filling my time with exercise and keeping busy. Are you in the states btw?
I think Im entitled to my opinion. I have had the 'priveledge' of growing up with two alcolohic parents. This is what makes me make that statement. Sorry it sounded so generalized...
Well I watched this, but the cameraman and his amateurish 'therapy' started to wear thin. Alcohol is physically addicting. These people have damaged their brains and wasted years of life, and they'll never, ever be able to be completely 'normal' again after so much heavy drinking. It's sad, I pity them. All I can think of for a solution, is to do whatever possible to keep youth from thinking that drunkeness is friendly or fun. Young people found 'drunk in public' need some serious intervention.
Yes, I agree. Just because Im an alcoholic I cant assume that everyone found drunk in public is.Usually if they get 4 or 5 pds and a DUI or two then it could be they have a problem.
i disagree,Tough love from my family is what finally made me sort myself out and come of the alcohol, you can tell by looking at her ,that she has exhusted every avenue with him
