  • All of the sudden erryone IS an Oscar de la hoya and manny pacquiao

  • im a right handed southpaw, however i just implement it into a range of martial arts, im not mma, but i do do mixed styles of ma if that makes sense lol

  • Love when i box southpaw as when i follow jabs weaving into their jab arm classes as a parry and i get another point for a hit:)

  • I fight in both stances but prefer Southpaw and im right handed. I can snap jabs off quicker and more accurately with my right and when its connected it leaves them open for a big left

  • @ felaniz me to man confuses people too

  • im boxing with both stance. im always switch my stance to confused my opponent.

  • I'm left handed but use the orthodox stance.

  • i'm left handed but I don't fight southpaw...its a matter of what feels natural, not what hand you write with...

  • southpaw justs feel with the right hand

  • I'm right handed and didn't know I was fighting southpaw.....nice

  • Ima start fighting Southpaw.

    It just sounds more badass.

  • i'm left handed and loves both stances :D

  • I right handed but do everything like this opposite. I skated goofty, when i was into bmx i biked goofy. and ive always boxed like this O.o my dad was left handed. wonder if they did it

  • ye ye right... everyone wanna be lefty :)

  • i like to start southpaw and switch it when they get tired and deliver my power punches since im a natural orthodox fighter

  • I'm right handed and i fight Southpaw. It just feels right.

  • @viking2001 me too.. im right handed at doing things but i am a southpaw

  • @viking2001 same here, buddy :-)

  • @viking2001

Yeah dude I know orthodox just makes me feel unbalanced even though I write with my right hand and my right arm is stronger.

  • @viking2001 same... Bruce Lee said that it's better to have your stronger weapons closer to the enemy, and hence why in his martial art (Jeet Kune Do) you have your right arm and leg leading... I know there's a difference between JKD and boxing, but that doesn't mean you can't apply the same basics to either one.

  • @viking2001 haha same here. but im left footed and right handed. which foot do you kick with?

  • is it possible to be orthodox but switch to southpaw in a fight? like would it be effective at all?

  • are there any other southpaw boxing tips here?

  • pantera its becuz ur jab wil likely be powerful an accurate but not a knockout shot as its the hand in front and ur back hand the left will likely be not that powerful and wont act as a deterant to stop other fighters coming in as it will likely be less coordinated an powerful

  • I FIGHT ORTHODOX BUT I KICK WITH MY LEFT LEGG...I TRIED WITH MY RIGHT LEGG BUH ITS SOO WEAK AND I CANT GET THE FORM DOWN FOR THE LIFE OF ME...WHAT WAY SHULD I FIGHT? SOUTH PAW, TO KICK BETTER, OR ORTHODOX TO PUNCH BETTER?

  • @amerus11 Fight O-dox and switch when you kick, I'll throw your apponent off. You can also learn the thai jab kick with your left leg.

  • Southpaw style

  • @Pantera8787 I'm also a right handed person who fights southpaw. I'm just so use to shooting for takedowns with my right leg forward. But couldn't fight left-handed. So, I just developed my left hand and since I'm naturally right handed, my jab is faster and stiffer. But if all else fails and I totally hate the guy, I switch back to orthodox and throw hard bombs.

  • Can anyone give me some tips? I dont do boxing competitively, I just love the sport and just workout on my punchbag, but i think i got my stance all wrong. My strongest punch is my left hand, but i put my left foot foward, what should I be doing?

  • @seanc102 boxing in a real life situation is more based off the other persons stance. you always want to circle AWAY from their power hand IE orthodox you circle to their right and southpaw you circle to their left. throw your combinations in the order you see them. i fight southpaw and often lead with a counter right hook to straight left to the body. it hits frequently and if i land it clean sometimes i can even follow with another right hook to the body. gauge your fight.

  • @seanc102 try south paw position right foot forward

  • #

Pantera8787 Maybe its because you feel that your right hand is closer so to your opponent so you want the hand you operate most with to land repeatedly.

  • @sleepa23 It could very well be, interesting thought.

  • dont do it

im naturally a southpaw and usually aways fight orthodox. now my stance feel wierd when i fight southpaw and mmy right jab is weak.

  • im doing some boxing and sparring and stuff for fun but im not sure which way is better for me to fight because i can fight orthodox and southpaw my best punches are my jab right straight left straight and left hook anyone have any suggestions for me it would be much appreciated

  • @kylencochrane southpaw, left uppercut right in the orthodox figher's liver, awesome technique and easily k.o, so go for southpaw, but its my opinion, you have to feel it by urselfe though

  • Thats great but a Orthordox needs to also stay clear of the southpaw so they need to move right to avoid the hard hits especially hooks from the southpaw as well as moving left to defend against the southpaws jab when working offensivly hahaha sounds like the orthodox stance has more to do hahaha go Southpaw!!!

  • This guy looks cool I want to feel like that when Im training! He looks like Little Mac from Punch out!

  • @Guitarisma

    hahah little mac

  • its a good idea to get comfortabke with both stances because switching it up a bit in a fight makes you less predictable

  • hmm..this guy trains with jason mayhem miller

  • Which stance you end up fighting in is more down to which one you practice in.

When I first started, I was completely equal in both stances. I decided that southpaw suited me better, and after a few months of doing everything southpaw, switching to orthodox felt very awkward (by comparison).

Both Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto are in fact left handed. They ended up fighting orthodox because during their youth, their coaches told them to.

  • Some of the best southpaws move almost exclusively to their left (towards the right cross).

The cross is actually less dangerous than many believe, as it has to travel much further to reach the target and is (relatively) easy to avoid.

As a southpaw myself, I'm much more concerned about an opponent with a good left hook. That for me is the danger punch, and by far my most devastating punch when fighting orthodox fighters is my right hook.

  • @MAS4T0 Dude, if ur a southpaw u should practice left uppercut, it hits orthodox fighters easily in the...liver? idk how to spell but...its easily a k.o and if u start with right jab, then move to the left and get in close range and use the left uppercut and maby a left hook, its a good combination

  • im right handed but fights southpaw...someone told me the we "southpaws" are easy to knockout?..

  • @19kool99 Southpaw's are weak to straight right. Dont let a ortodox boxer stand outside of your jab. Southpaw's guard for a straight hand is often very bad also.

  • Is the right cross supposed to come out straigt. because your elbow looks a little up. Im just confused, some people tell me Im throwing mine wrong. I know you have alot of knowledge so can you help me with this.

  • Soupaw is very good and useful. Not too many people are left handed so its a surprise to your opponent. I know a right handed Southpaw user, so his simple jabs are very deadly. Normally a southpaw user is left handed and he uses his weakest hand to feel out his opponent, but if you go straight into battle with your strongest hand making your opponent think that is your weakest hand, you can win a match easily.

  • @Taffy4Kamota Well dont know how much matches you have won on that style. But its not like your right have the same power as it would if u was standing in ortodox stance. and your left is now kinda useless... But hay if it works for you go on

  • right i just have to say this don't fight southpaw if your right handed... you'll be able to throw a hard right jab but won't be able to follow up with a hard left spose you could be a switched fight orthodox then switch southpaw...

  • im right handed but for some reason my natural stance is left i move better that way can throw better it makes no sence 2 me

  • pantera i feel your pain i was born a lefty but i was taught to use my right hand but i fight as a southpaw. i feel way better as a southpaw.

  • im southpaw aswell cant fight orthidox but my right hand has a pretty strong jab i love boxing with passion

  • @01lionman i'm a southpaw i poped a kid nose with one jab and im 11 yrs old, also he was wereing headgear. my jabs are deadly.

  • i fight southpaw so i punce jab little but i got 2 punce jab with my right hand 500 times its hard 2 punce 500 times but u got 2 work on it

  • Now i been boxing Orthodox switch to Southpaw alot. But Southpaw feels very natural to me. Im an Infighter as well. But i suggest you make a video to help people pick out what style there comfortable with, like Outfighter, puncher, infighter, Slugger, Counter puncher, etc., etc. Love your videos. I have my own boxing blog please guys check it out!

  • o im right handed, but prefer to strike southpaw as not all the orthodox strikers are used to the orthodox stance

  • Yeah Im almost the same, I am right handed but prefer a left handed stance. It screws boxers all up when I can fire a punch standing southpaw with my right hand just as good as if I was standing orthodox. It messes with thier head lol.

  • i get a lil confised with this... since i'm cross dominant (left handed and right footed) it feel more comfortable in orthordox because my left foot in front but i'm better in southpaw stance because of my left hand oh well i'll get used to it :P

  • im a southpaw boxer but i would rather be a orthodox!!!

  • ive always hated being left handed but i guess its good for boxing, left handed and left footed and southpaw is an advantage

  • Im thinking of taking boxing for next year. Im gonna be a freshman in Highschool. Any suggestions?

  • good idea train hard build ur confidence up cuz highschool can be a bittch for some people

  • its a great sport and hell of a workout man i used to play soccer but i like boxing also and i dont think any sport ive done gets you as tired as boxing

  • muay thai , will boost confidence and get you in shape ,but boxings just as good

  • 91domination probably wont think so. im left handed and left footed to, and i have no problems when im boxing, but the ones i train with have. see it as a advantage :)

  • im a righty and trained my self in southpaw style works really well in a sparring sessions well cuz in the gym there is only one more southpaw fighter.the bad part is my righty stance can develop a lot more punching power than the southpaw stance which kinda sucks how can i equalise the power ?

  • well as a right handed person the capabilities are more likely to always be better with your right, the only thing i can suggest is either training your right hand less than you left

  • is it mandatory for all boxing gyms to have a small old man with a cap on

  • I am a soutpaw beginner boxer. Im left handed AND left footet. Is that a problem our does it even matters ?

  • eh..17,southpaw bout 5'5 5'6 some where between 150-160.people can get so confused when they face their first south paw

  • @momochimomochi i know i was, first time for me he was in a muay thai stance then switched to southpaw, i forgot wat i was doing and couldnt adapt

  • I'm 14 orthodox,6"1 and 165 lbs.What about me?!

  • im 16 orthodox, 6"0 - 6"1 around 170 - 175lbs

  • @nahhhfooo my dad's pretty big, i guess its just genetics, and working out...and ya i guess im pretty good, not the best though

  • I'm an orthodox boxer & most of my opponents have been southpaws.

    6'2 235lbs :] & im only 17

  • im training my body to get use to southpaw but i need help, any advice?

  • im an orthodox fighter but i faced a southpaw and it a strange way to me to fight better in southpaw u have to train ur left hand harder so ur left hook is strong as ur right jab if this helps reply

  • just do alot of shadow boxing. and that outta get you use to it

  • its weird that im right handed in every thing else but I fight southpaw? iunno it just feels right.

  • @Pantera8787 for me its a bit similar to yours

i do everything in right handed but my left is stronger so i do southpaw

it's probably because my mom is a left handed

    also southpaw feels confortable :]

  • @Pantera8787 same happens to me

  • @Pantera8787 yea same her dude but i skate goofy footed with my right foot leading

  • @Pantera8787 im the same way..except i started orthodox but switched to soutpaw

  • @MiljasXx COUNT ME IN!...I TRAINED FOR 1 YEAR AS A ORTHODOX BEFORE I CONVERTED AS A SOUTHPAW!.AND DURING SPARRING WHENEVER I SWITCH BAC TO ORTHODOX MY LEADING LEFT HOOK IS A KILLER!.HAHAHA!.BOOM!

  • @Pantera8787 No. you're considered to be mixed handed. I am, but I am more left handed. I can throw and write with both of my hands, but I suck at fighting right handed, even though I know how. Idk why, but I throw a much better left haymaker than a right one.

  • @Pantera8787 and second, Pacquiao is a left handed fighter. However, he writes and does a good amount of things with his right hand.

  • @Pantera8787

Same here mate , Right handed in everything else but feel stronger with the left hand : /

  • @perrywinkle195 I think its called 'Ambidextrious', i can lead using both hands when using a pucnhbag but, i use mostly my right hand , maybe you guys are left and right handed? :)

  • @Pantera8787 I'm the same way, but I do a few other things left handed

  • @Pantera8787 yeah same

  • @Pantera8787 Same here.

  • @Pantera8787 same here :D

  • @Pantera8787 thank you, i thought i was the only one

  • @Pantera8787 I have that same thing, i am right handed but fighting southpaw just feels smoother, moving around and getting my combos off feels easier when i switch southpaw

  • @Pantera8787 im the same way. but thats actually a good thing your right hook/right upper cut is prolly really mean lol. jarome labanner kickboxer is the same way. semmy shilt is a lefty who fight orthx. that why a southpaw whos right handed isnt a fun person to fight against lol.

  • @Pantera8787 I am the same way. Its just because youre so use to using your right hand, you want to lead with your right hand and jab with it. But if that is the case, you should strengthen your left more so that you get a solid straight left and left uppercut.

  • @Pantera8787 - You are not an exception or weird :) In JeetKuneDo when you are right handed you stand with right hand forward just like southpaw in boxing. Why? Because it make sense - stronger right hand dont need distance way to punch hard. Left hand is weak however in this position have long distance and body rotation to punch hard also. In this way you can punch hard with both hands. So this is pretty clever when someone RIGHT handed boxing as southpow... ;)

  • @Pantera8787

Same "problem" but thanks to that you have a killer jab...

  • @Pantera8787 it fells good for me to buddy. southpaw all the way

  • @Pantera8787 Regardless of if it feels right. Thats wrong :)

  • @Pantera8787 haha i thought i was the only one :P

  • @sethroganlegend Are you left footed?

  • @NZMeathead yeah

  • @sethroganlegend Prob the reason you fight southpaw then, I am also the same, im right handed, left footed, I do alot of things left handed like play pool, shoot a gun etc an alot of other things im right handed, swing a bat, write, an some I ca do both like throw a ball, pass a ball, swing a hammer, use tools, good trait as Im a builder/ccarpender. God knows why I turned out like that, something must have got wired up differently.

  • @Pantera8787 I did it because I always had my right hand forward in Judo because grappling usually works that way.

  • i need to learn how to fight southpaw. im in kajukenbo and my right leg is stronger so i need to lead off with that any tips for me?

  • heres a thought

maybe a twist off the kick

    lead your right leg lead

and the throw your left leg first then plant it to were you can twist off it

just then let your right kick come from under just like a step forward like IDK

  • wow im goin to box someone who is 6'0 and like 170 lbs and im only 5'7 125 lbs..........

  • Nice so am i this weekend.

  • not in a real match hes in a different weight class

  • We'll assume he slaughtered you.

  • @ivanjrizal did you win?

  • yea i whooped his ass

  • haha nice

  • Gonna box a friend that is 10 cm taller than me, it's the first time I box aswell, we're not using any helmets or anything, so wish me luck lol

  • oh haha I thought it was the other way around.. Fail!

  • Pacquiao is a dangerous Southpaw :O

  • so as valero

  • Southpaws find it easier to get into a position where they can get a good right hook into their opponent's side, bringing the head down for the almighty left cross to the head or body, or another right hook. Relating this to the Cotto fight, apparantly, Cotto isn't very good in receiving blows to the body, so Pacquiao might find it easier.

    I know I do :)

  • yea u right good tip!! thats the way i fight!!

  • i am a right handed south paw fighter

  • So is Anderson Silva

  • same here

  • bet you got a good jab :) I'm a left handed orthodox. haha

  • what the hell is a left handed orthodox?? and why does everyone claim to be this lOl, hmm itd be nice if he showed us a double jab with a good cross, he's just touching the bag. . .

  • means i should be southpaw, but i just went orthodox as in right handed.

  • why would u switch from southpaw?? its more elusive, and youhave the advantage over orthodox fighters, harder for them to catch u with a right, and it's really easy to counter anything with a straight left, if u know southpaw and ur arms are even strength i would sudjest never changing

  • yeah, i'm thinking of changing back, or maybe learning both for the variety purposes.

  • Im just a regular left handed southpaw

  • thats kool im also a right handed southpaw

  • i´m southpaw,but i am right-handed

  • th eguy just said that you should stay away from the opposition when you jab cos the opponent wll retaliate with a right punch..that's an disadvantage..but southpaw stancei s also an advantage cos the same goes for a person whofight orthodox style...

  • Winky Wright is a right handed southpaw. I <3 him!

  • joe frazier is a left handed orthadox .

  • jerome le banner is a right handed southpaw

  • No he's not. Henry Cooper is though.

  • yea i am also a righty south paw fighter. i feel more comfortable than fighting orthodox.

  • it also a bit confusing for the person you're fighting.. if they use orthodox and you're southpole

  • good tip! thats my style

  • i fight both stances

  • for a southpaw is one of the best combos right jab and after a right hook

  • idk its not bad i use it when i spar

  • i spar one guy whose southpaw and i use the left uppercut then the cross....works alot

  • sounds a bit common sense a right handed southpaw is gonna lacking in the left hook

  • right handed southpaw? what?? you mean a right handed guy who fights southpaw?

  • No shit

  • work on your left, and it won't be an issue.

  • Manny Pacquiao is a right handed southpaw.

  • No hes not.

He has said he's ambidextrous. However I think his left hand is still his 'power hand'. He has used his right in darts but left hand for pitching a baseball.

Im a southpaw and doing some things the right way. Such as golf, darts, cutting. However I still consider myself left handed and southpaw stance is more comfortable to me.

Also pacmans money shot is the straight left, a powerful shot for ppl who are left handed.

He is not a right handed southpaw

  • Okay, thanks for correcting. I'm also the same though, doing some things with my left but I consider myself right handed. But I feel really comfortable with southpaw contrary to orthodox where it feels very awkward.

  • he is a right handed southpaw

  • manny is left handed

  • No, he is ambidextrous. Look for video here in youtube called "Pacquiao Darts1.mpg" where he said that he is ambidextrous.

  • me too!!!

  • i'm a right handed southpaw. My jab feels much stronger but i lose power in my left cross. i guess the advantage is that my orthodox opponant won't be expecting the stance and power coming at his left side.

  • That's what Winky Wright does, he has limited power in his left cross but his right jab absolutely dominates fights. I think it's a good tactic for a defensive fighter.

  • yeah dude i trained as a south paw for a year as a righty but i went back to orthodox you should do the same i asked a professional boxer if i should change stances so i did its alot better and i still know how to fight southpaw i spar a round in my right handed stance then the second round i switch and there getting tagged different it throws people off if you know both well

  • ive started boxing soth i think it suits me better if any 1 can help me out with combeos ect holaa at me thanks :)

  • im osuth paw lefty from birth :P

  • Southpaw are dangerous fighters

  • fighting southpaw also works well for an orthodox fighter who has a thunderous left hook. makes it much more accessible.

  • 1st veiv

  • Cool
