  • Best female rendition was from charice.

  • I can't believe that people complain Eric used some of a classical musician's stuff. Give me a break. If he sampled these guys, then had someone write the the actual tune/lyrics for All By Myself, then slag him. Brilliant is one word for this video. I've got more.

  • The always underappreciated, underrecognized pure musical genius of Eric Carmen.

  • A BIG OSKAR FOR ERIC CARMEN,FOR THIS AMAZING TALENT,FOR THIS AMAZING PIANIST...! SUCH A LOVE TO SING THE GREATEST SONG IN THE WORLD ! HE IS A GENIUS ,BELEAVE ME !

  • WOW! I am impressed! I can see (and HEAR) that he's obviously NOT one of those who should have just accepted retiring. Amazing, indeed! I saw him back in the mid 70s. He opened for America - and was just as entertaining. At the time, he was riding high on this hit. He started out by doing some mellow stuff, then all of a sudden one spotlight was focused one of the guitarists, and he slammed out the opening chords of "Go All The Way." The audience went nuts!

  • That's how it's done kids, with no auto tune crap!

  • What a gem of a video...thanks Maggie for this treasure - the The Raspberries rock on!

  • Incredible Song and part of music history -globally for all cultures. Long live this.

  • Awesome performance!!! They've still got it! So much passion you can still feel the heartache from when the song was written.

  • Eric is clearly just one of "those guys" with "talent" that you just dont find around every corner... he wrote and arranged all this stuff.... and if he "borrowed" a lil from his classical backround to sweeten it a little...so freakin be it!!! he did a g@d damn fine freakin job of marrying all the music together into one helluva freakin song... it is...an ageless and timeless classic.... HOO...mother..EFFIN..rahhhh 4 Eric EFFIN Carmen..... you da MAN!!!... peace out!!!

  • @TumbleWeedSky444 MICHAEL SCOTT IS THE AUTHOR OF THE NICOLAS FLAMEL SERIES(THE ALCHEMYST, THE MAGICIAN, THE SORCERESS, THE NECROMANCER, THE WARLOCK). THE BIBLE IS A PLAGIARIZED BOOK THAT IS FULL OF METAPHYSICAL MYTHOLOGY BUT NO MONOTHEISM AT ALL. THE BIBLE IS MEANT FOR ASSHOLES THAT EAT MEAT AND ARE SELFISH AND ARE BRAINLESS PIGS.

  • One of the most sorrowful, touching songs ever.

  • Thanks so much for sharing!!

    I LOVE ERIC CARMEN!

  • 最高やな!

  • Eric unbelievable in this show. By the way I didn't know the comments space was for gosippy people too.

  • This guy is laughing all the way to the BANK ; ).......

  • Was this before or after the DUI???

  • Great and accurate performance, I'm amazed. Especially the touching complete piano middle section. Wow.

  • I was in the audience that night , came all the way from Holland to see them twice that weekend and meet the guys. It was an amazing night. Eric hits the high notes even better than ever before..

  • This song still gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Wish I could have been there to hear it live. Please come to DC! You guys are still tight and give an incredible performance! Thanks for still doing it!!

  • This songh still gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Wish I could have been there. Please come to DC! You guys are still tight and give an incredible performance! Thanks for still doing it!!

  • I was fortunate enough to make the New York sold out show at the BB King theater as a VIP but it was the second of two West Hollywoood HOB shows were I finally watched Eric perform this super hit. I need another reunion tour. Where are the guys today.

  • A true musician!

  • he still sings absolutely fantastic, even after all these years.lay off for a 61yr old he doesn`t look that bad - no double chin, fat belly or saggy skin.

  • Memorys are coming up... Toller Kerl, toller Musiker, toller "Handwerker" ein sensibler Fachmann. Just Great!

    Peter

  • This is one of most emotional performances I've seen

  • Great performance

  • Still breakin' my heartstrings, Eric... great job, fellas!

  • the guitar solo...., I could have done it better.

  • @evac2009 LOL! What a putz!

  • It is a famous tune left in history eternally definitely.

    ERIC is a great musician.

  • lindoooo

  • LOVE the piano only section of this song!. This video is great! Thanks for posting it.

  • Like the song Poor video

  • one of the best singers out there

  • Eric Carmen's version of this song is the original and BEST version of this song. Thanks for sharing this!

  • allright Eric, I love your music, good song,it stays with you.

    Touches your my heart.

     from gord harris

  • this song is fine i very very liked it

  • I feel odd about making Eric give those royalties up. I mean, most blues songs have the exact same chord structure. Do we go back in time and decide that Son House or someone should be getting their cut? Lets be real...Rachmaninoff didn't write the song. Maybe George Harrison should've paid Phil Spector for 'My Sweet Lord'? hahaha Check out Harrison's 'This Song', hilarious.

  • Both this one and the song "Sunrise" are Rachmaninoff pieces. If you listen to the original classical songs you'll see how much.

  • @tammyvrba Sunrise has no Rachmaninoff in it...you're thinking of 'Never Gonna fall In Love Again'.

  • @hollies65 I stand corrected. Just looked at that very 33 1/3 (ok, a bunch of you will probably say "What's a 33 1/3?" ) the other day as a matter of fact and then it hit me...I gave out the wrong information. Thanks for clearing it up though :)

  • From his heart..Straight to my heart...Crazy Beautiful! Love the classical piano he plays..just amazing.

This song gives me a lump in my throat and touches my soul. Very deep and meaningful. Thank you so much for posting. Just Incredible! *)*

  • An absolutely masterpiece of a song!!

  • I was at this show and it was PHENOMINAL... I honestly have never felt such a euphoria at a rock show in my life. The greatest.... And I've seen McCartney live, who is my favorite artist of all time.

  • Eric's not playing in his best here. He flubs his piano parts starting on 3:10 (he hits the wrong bass key, making the sound flatter than it should be), then he keeps hitting the bass keys off-beat on 3:13 and 3:16 (perhaps to cover up his mistake on 3:10), then he hits a stray right-hand key on 3:33, then he hits the wrong chord on 4:30 and a stray left-hand key on 4:31. Eric seems unhappy after the piano solo. But his other 2007 performance here has him nailing the piano solo perfectly.

  • @stanleygsf Who the hell cares if there are minor problems or errors?? Are you sick? Write a song like this, then perform it decades later with this sort of passion, then I'll talk to you about the fact that you flubbed a couple of parts. Get a life.

  • Surprisingly, Eric's version gets better as aged wine

  • Quite agree with you

    This version is superb!

  • artu.. he gave credit to Rachmaninov which is part of the song and the other part is him writing a classic "all by myself"

  • A truly professional performance! This clip shows one of the things I've always liked about Eric's style, he's always sung from his heart no matter what the song, giving it everything he has to give! I may be a male but like Lalitzmeeeeee below said, this song has brought tears to my eyes and put a lump in my throat on occasions in the past. But not today all you spiteful mongrels here!

  • i kno exactly what u mean mate.

  • too many Rachmaninov`s piano concerto Nº2 in this music...TOO MANY (is this some kind of tribute or something?)

great song although, and better guitar solo

  • when I was a teenager...the boats against the current was the soundtrack of my life. All by myself has always helped me through emotional times. I would sing this tune at the top of my lungs. Disturbing all my neighbors. bWatching this now chokes me up and brings tears to my eyes. Eric , my friend you will always move me. Thank-you......Love Lori

  • I love how the band got lost in the music, the drummer got taken by surprise, cool. I got lost in it too, this is what great music does!

I like his voice, what's wrong with it? Celine Dion is a great singer, but she is not truly alone, and can't touch this performance. When the sad day comes and she is all alone, then the song will be hers fully.

  • quanti ricordi ..che belle le tue canzoni.grazie eric, per tutte le volte che mi hai regalato delle emozioni la tua voce è preziosa come un brillante l love you ti amo gabry italy

  • A great song! Voice of eric is not the best, but it helps the letter. A beautiful song by a great singer like Eric, but a beautiful song in the voice of Celine Dion !!!!!

  • Sweet thanks for this. Dam,sounds good to me.

  • they are every bit as great now as they ever were ,maybe even better ,and that is hard to top

  • This is pretty freaking amazing for one who was around in '76 and '77 when Wally was out in LA with Dan Klawon from The Choir, Dave Thomas from Peter Panic, Thom Mooney from The Naz, and keyboardist Jeff Hutton taking another stab at it with Motown (=not= a great idea). Wally was =not= a happy camper. That he's playing the lead on this tune say volumes to me about the power of forgiveness. To me, anyway, Eric's lyrics have a =whole= other meaning.

  • charice rendition of this song is one of the best. pls, type charice all by myself.

  • superbe §§§§

  • Eric Carmen never had a really great voice but his musical talent and creativity made up for it. This piece has always been one of my fav's oh and yes, in agreemend with coreyruetten, his hair ROCKS

  • I have always loved his voice, even before I had ever seen his picture. Rhe sound is a bit weird on this end, but that could be the vile thunderstorms we're getting.

As for his hair... Well, my fingers have always loved everyone's hair for some reason. 'Specially fluffy, curly locks.

Oh, any inroduction to Rachmaninoff or other clasical artists has me in awe... I know,.. AWW... go read some middle eights.

  • Never had a great voice?! Try singing GO ALL THE WAY or MAKE ME LOSE CONTROL. Bet you can't!!

  • I took vocal lessons also. I sang in a couple of bands and play several instruments. Also, my mother was a professional singer who won a singing contest. I know music, too. I mentioned your comment to another professional musician and singer and he disagreed with you, too . Taking singing lessons doesn't mean you can sing everything and anything or that you have the same vocal range of another singer. Eric Carmen, in his prime, had a great voice. If you studied voice, you should know that.

  • Until you hear me sing, you can't make that judgement, can you..........it's pointless to waste our time even discussing it. Amen

  • Then, let's hear you sing. Post a video highlighting your "incredible talent", proving to the world that you are a Much better singer than Eric Carmen. What do you say? That way, we wont be as you say, "Wasting our time." If you are a better singer than Eric Carmen as you say, then this could be your big break. Try " Go All The Way" or something "EASY " like that. Then maybe you could sing some Whitney Houston for me.

  • Are you Eric Carmen's brother or something? - or do you just have anger issues. We're just sharing opinions here. I don't feel any need to prove myself to you. I'm secure in my talents and I'm tired of this exchange. Goodbye

  • BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! I knew you were all talk yooperlooper. You don't want anyone to hear you sing, because you KNOW you CAN'T SING as well as Eric Carmen. That was my original point. There was no doubt in my mind, your response would be what it was. I would have been shocked, if you agreed to put up a video highlighting your vocals. I never met anyone who bragged about being a great singer (including you) who actually was a good singer. The good singers let others judge forthemselves.

  • Lastly, I don't have anger issues. What I have, are problems with people like you, who don't know talent when you see it and see talent when it's not there. I don't have to be Eric Carmen's brother to know that he can sing you under the table. You are all talk and no action. If you don't want this discussion to go on, then quit while you are behind. Bet you can't!!!!!!!

  • the difference between you yooperlooper and Eric Carmen is that people will pay to hear him sing. i doubt people would waste time watching a guy like you sing

  • great Maggie! thanks Raspberries

  • SUPERB!

  • Fantastic....

  • Will see them in concert, for sure, when they play nearby (within a five hour radious). They're the Best!

  • say what you will about eric carmen, but he has glorious hair

  • Amazing!!!!

  • They don't make artists like this anymore. Now we're stuck with the bubble gum PR-created boy bands. Rock on, Eric Carmen. You are still one of the best.

  • @4aztec Boy Bands are *SO* Nineties!

  • @GlitzPianoman tell that to the Jonas Brothers.

  • @4aztec ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE WAS BORN NEAR PARIS IN 1802 AND 'COINCIDENTALLY' IN 1902 THE SOCIETY OF JESU(JESUITS) WERE EXPELLED FROM FRANCE FOR THE THIRD AND LAST TIME. ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE WROTE THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK IN 1848 AND 'COINCIDENTALLY' IN THE SAME YEAR THE SOCIETY OF GESU(JESUITS) WERE EXPELLED FROM FRANCE FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE SOCIETY OF JESUS(JESUITS) HAVE BEEN EXPELLED FROM 83 COUNTRIES AND THEIR POPE IS ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(BLACK POPE).

  • Anyone who thinks white folks don't have soul.. just listen to this. Passionate to the core. A bunch of old geezers with more feeling than a million Fall Out Boys.

  • They're not old geezers! The fact that they still put on as good a show as they ever did by definition leaves them well out of the geezer category. In fact I would travel again to see them play.

  • @maggieclarke Maggie - thank you for posting this version - Is that Chopin ending for Eric? - he was classically trained. Somehow, lyrics are more believable in this vs 70's - when he had blond then brown afro. thx again!

  • @smidijack Eric and the Razzies has more talent than anyone, including the music industry, ever gave them credit for. Great musuc and lyrics you'll never see now days. The fans loved them and still do.

  • I was at that show. That was the encore song. Carmen stated that he wrote it before the Raspberrys broke up...so it would have been a Raspberrys song. yep he said it

  • LOL...it was written long before the Rasberry's broke up...or were even born for that matter...about 1908 by Sergei Rachmaninoff...it's the second movemnet of his second piano concerto !!!

  • True fireplace just like his other song "never gonna fall in love again". Let's cut him some slack the guys got problems. lol

  • rnrtnt ...funny you should say he has problems as Rachaminov dedicated his second piano concerto to his psychiatrist !!

  • Same lyrics and everything, LOL!

  • I never realized Sergei Rachmaninoff had these awesome lyrics.

  • Seriously, get off your high horse it's the first piece of classical music to be reused and i'm pretty sure in these days of talentless muscians and brainless comsumerism it won't be the last.

  • Thanks Maggie for this clip! Sounds the same as he did it longggg time ago! Is he never getting older? Just glad he does not have that haircut he had in the 80´s!!

  • I just cant take that to me, it is too good.

Now I listen to Brian Wilson new CD....

but Eric C will always be a fav to me

  • He still sings this good?

  • Yes, he does and they all still play this well.

  • @maggieclarke did he write this song? i love the piano part and also the guitar.

  • @Aponijohn Yes - Eric wrote this. If I recall, I believe he wrote it while still with the Raspberries, but they split up before recording it.

  • @Aponijohn Let me clarify before I get flamed - Eric wrote the lyrics with music based on Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 in C minor.

  • This is from a show from last year?

  • jolivia,,, the added musicians were on this show as well. Every Raspberries reunion show,, they were a part of.

  • Wow!...Great video from a perspective you don't get from TV productions...The sound was pretty good too...And the performance was superb!

  • I was at this fine show. I recall that Eric made a joke about how this could have been a Raspb. song if the band had stayed together. Wally looked visibly angry for a second at that remark...maybe it brought back some rough memories.

  • I was also at the show--great performance. personally, I enjoyed it better than w/ the added musicians at BB King's the year before. thanks for posting!

  • This goes to show you how much better all 4 Raspberries are together than when they are apart. This has more character than the solo version.

  • Was that before he got busted before his dui??

  • Great Singer, songwriter & person...thanks for the post

  • thanks Maggie!

  • I was at this show...was completely luscious. This was the second time I'd seen the band..first was in 1974 or so, at the Bottom Line, also in NYC. Was the McBride and McCarl lineup then, I think. Great to see the originals, and see them play so well. Thanks for putting this up.

  • i was at the saturday show w/maggie...great experience! i had never seen them live before! i hope Eric's ok!
