  • Bakshi the father of anime

  • I was about to cry in Film Appreciation and nobody knew why. This was emotional!

  • i know it's reed..but i can't find this version

  • having a hard time finding the song at the end..any help?

  • @Digityus Lou Reed- waiting for my man, Not sure which version though. Hope that helps.

  • good movie, was soooo baked the first time I watched it.

    Purple Haze FTW!

  • lol tony is so much littler than the guys carrying the stretcher

  • I dedicate 3:03 to 6:30 to Amy Whinehouse

  • The bad part was, Tony got hooked on Opiates (Heroin) due to him falling and breaking his (everything) and he ends up.. well.. ruined cause of it.. and the very SAME FUCKING THING happened to me! thank fucking GOD for suboxone helping me get OFF that shit! cause its HELL getting off Heroin/Opiates after you been on em a while.. the part where he was crying looking for dope while (people are strange) was playing, that part hits home like you wouldnt BELIEVE! (well im sure alot of you CAN believe)

  • @Toyman1982 You're definitely right about that one. I'm crying right along with him because I'm almost two days into my opiate (pain pills, not heroin, thank goodness) detox right now.. It hurts so much.. mentally and physically

  • LOL@9:45... he looks like Bobby from King of the Hill.

  • Frankie is like Janis meets Edie Sedgwick

  • (Janis Joplin) starts singing @ 4:08.

  • such a heartbreaking moment during summertime

    what could have been

  • call me crazy, but for some reason tony reminds me of benicio del torro

  • @RjeanBagierra

    Your right he does.

  • @RjeanBagierra I thought the same...he looks like Benicio...

  • Tony looks kinda like vinny from hey good lookin lol

  • @JackJeckel81

Hey does but i think Vinnie looks like the anime character Lupin The Third even from Hayao Miyazkai's Castle of Cogliostro. Say uh since your an 80's/early 90's child like me, do you remembered watching this on TBS when you were my age of 12 18 years ago? they also showed Heavy Metal, Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival and Rock and Rule.

  • @Johnlindsey289 i remeber that i was like in grade 7 or eight when i seen those cartoons they were great

  • @generationkill791

You seen Heavy Metal, Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop and Rock and Rule on TBS or TNT back in the early 90's too? nice! our generation the kids of the 80's discovered these amazing adult animated cult classics even when renting them uncut and uncensored on video. When i was 13 i made myself VHS taped copies of the uncut Rock and Rule, Robot Carnival and Vampire Hunter D then when i was 15 i bought HM on video to see it uncut/uncensored and this at 17 on vid

  • they need to put this on blu-ray

  • this would also be awesome if this story was made into a live musical play

  • Anyone know where I can find the version of the Lou Reed song "I'm Waiting for the Man" this movie uses @ 8:25? It's freakin' awesome.

  • @alexwinter666 Yeah! I've been wanting to know what version this is too.

  • @alexwinter666 limewire.com

  • look at tony's face at 0:13 is creepy he looks like a pedophile or a rapist LOL!

  • @kawaiisakura23 Yeah he does...

  • @kawaiisakura23 that's what junkies' eyes look like whenever they smile. Been there before...

  • When Hendrix sang "excuse me while I kiss the sky," some people thought he was singing "scuse me while I kiss this guy."

  • Heavy movie. When I saw this back in the 80's as a kid it kinda did me in for a few days. Gritty and real. Love it.

  • @suba1234 yes same here to this day. i think it gets overlooked and passed on simply because it's animated

  • Ralph Bakshi's master piece

  • @mrttwo How do ya figure?

This is just a rotoscoped collection of movie clips and music videos.

If you want to see the good stuff, you have to watch Fire & Ice, Wizards and Lord of the Rings.

  • @misterprickly Much like Fritz the cat Bakshi shows time and culture thou the eyes of the main characters, but mainly it's a story of one family's falls and rises done in a way that is not used often, and that's what I like in it, and I'm NOT saying that every thing ells he made is no good. Personally I think Fritz the cat is his best work, but I like Hard traffic, Hey Good looking, Coon skin gave me a lot of laughs. In many ways he is a director that beat his time.

  • @misterprickly P.S. "the good stuff" I have seen and Fire & Ice is FANTASTIC :)!

  • If Tony was Little Pete's father, then who's Pete?

  • @needles1987

Made up name to hide the fact that Pete was illegitimate.

  • janis joplin sang with so much pain

  • Hendrix made purple look so wicked.

  • I love the soft version of Darling You Send Me in the background at 2:49

  • Summertime I'm nearly crying I think Frankie is alike Janis Joplin... well she died becouse of the overdose ......

  • @SunshineKMJJ where did frankie get all the drugs

  • @SunshineKMJJ where did tony get all the drugs in the begining in his guitar great movie

  • no one ever followed jimi he had to close out the shows

  • Tony would've been great if he were played in live action by a young James Dean.

  • jimmi hedrix is fucking awsome but he went first becouse back in those days people were bigger racist than now and even tought hedrix was great he wasnt treated that great ...

  • Jimi Hendrix is the fucking man!!

  • man, when they used Janis, it bring tears to your eyes. AMAZING MOVIE about a generation to early for me, but i still love the music

  • Did anyone catch the mistake at (1:37) right as frankie says "stay" look at the blond guy in the background. For a brief second, he has no head or arms.

  • Jimi did Not play with his fuckin' thumb!

  • Jimi ... (L)

  • 10:09 FTW!

  • I think that's Ralph again as the stage manager

  • nah ralph has a distinct lisp.

  • You gotta love how the little kid defends Tony.

  • Note that not does Philoctetes plays "Purple Haze", but also every member of the band has some purple to their attire. Not sure what that signifies, but I found it interesting.

  • i love this part of the movie becuz it shows lil pete growing up on the street.he went from kansas innocent to streetwise drug dealer just like that.

  • wow look at this kid yall

  • hey what is that song tha beginning of 5:01

  • I imagine that yes, they would have indeed looked like shit after hendrix.

  • The scene where Tony realizes that he had a son never fails to tear me up. I replayed 4:31 so many times the time I saw it. What a portrayal of forgone happiness and despair, against the deep blue night sky and the corn fields of Kansas.

  • Although I've seen this movie many times, only now am I noticing two key things:

    1) Everyone's wearing the same clothes when Frankie's body is taken away as they were when they were backstage...so I guess this means she died that very night in Kansas City.

    2) Note that not only does Jimi sing 'Purple Haze,' but also every member of the band has some purple to their attire. Not sure what that signifies, but I found it interesting.

  • RSG2006: Sometimes a pot, is only a pot.

  • The first time I saw this film, there was a slight difference to this scene...When Little Peter is asked what his Dad would say, Pete says "Nothing...He's dead." I saw that version about 1982 and haven't seen it since...only this version. Pete's answer here makes more sense.

  • Could someone please tell me the name of the song that starts on 4:10. I NEED to know. Thanks

  • That is "Summertime" by Janis Joplin

  • R.I.P. Jimi Hendrix

  • Does anyone know where to find that recording of "I'm Waiting for the Man"?

    I WANT IT SO BAD.

  • it's on Lou Reed Live =]

he performed it at the Howard Stein's Academy of Music in New York.

  • Youre a musical God! Thanks for sharing that information with us lesser mortals!!!! I mean it, you helped me resolve a life-long quest!

  • Ol' Tony did heroin so much. He did it everywhere and whenever he was doing ANYTHING.

    Groceries, HEROIN.

    Bathroom, HEROIN.

    Heroin, HEROIN.

  • I think i may like dis movie its like watching An American Tale on really bad acid
