Saw these guys and a whole lot of other great Aussie bands at the Caringbah Inn in the mid-80s, when I lived at the Nulla. The Casbah had the highest beer sales of any pub in NSW for a while and I like to think I played my part in that.
It was a pitty to see brass instruments leave the pop scene after the 80s you just cant beat the sound of brass. From the 90s and up muso's relyed too much on electric, god they dont even have bands anymore just "POPSTARS" 8-(
great tune ! Al Britton is just an awesome, solid bassist. Robert Susz a great frontman. saw the sax player late last year playing at Bondi/Waverly in Sydney with Virginia Lowe singing upfront. he's still got that feel !
I was walking through our local Westfield shoppingtown recently when over the PA came this song. It electrified me as usual - the whole place should have stopped and broken out dancing. Its a kick arse Aussie No. 1.
This song lol..remember boarding an old red rattler at asquith train station...this song was on my mates walkman....when we got on the red rattler..there was seats missing..we started singing someone stole the seats.....whole kind of feeling someone stole the seats..miss australia miss red rattlers
Number one on RTR in NZ for weeks...it felt like years to a young punk rocker (lol).
The organ sounds great to me now...kind of like something off an early Dylan album such as Blonde On Blonde. Didn't pick it up or appreciate it back then...couldn't cause I hadn't heard any Dylan when it came out.
This is one of the Aussie classics. Played at the wake of the Pilot on the series "The Flying Doctors" - they said it was his music. Can anyone remember his name?
I think it's a global thing and not just the pokies. I know people will argue about today's music being just as good as music from the past and that it's just different. Yes, I believe it takes one to find good music for him/herself. However, this song could suit any period before 1986... it could have been a motown hit; a disco hit; a country hit, what have you. The songs were just good.. back then.
@truespyfan I don't think I implied that today's music is as good as 80's music... it just simply isn't. However, the poor state of popular culture is a global phenonamen.
@nzoz1984 I agree with you, but what I noticed about getting 'older' is that in the 80's the older people would complain about Culture Club and other bands. We just sometimes do the same now to the previous years' artists. It might be just generational. There is no doubt the state of culture at present isn't that good but
Well music in general has declined due to video culture taking precedent over actual musicians...and then there is australian radio which isnt really prepared to support australian artists.
@webaroos It's called cookie cutter music now, Mcdonads pioneered it now al business's run this way. Just have a few lines and pump em out with no variation Alowed.
@aussietv2 - Maybe that's why Ipod & mp3 players are so popular, just load em up with the old music and bypass the new crap on radio, I don't really understand the newer music, it's a total mish mash, but again that's what my parents said about the 60's music.
Groovy black 'n' white shirt.... but not with them red pants...omg never mind... great summer song from the day though. Continential Robert? Was that what he called himself?
I remember seeing this Filmclip for the first time on "Sounds" in late 1984. Errr...showing my age here! :P

Yeah... where are the horn sections in popular music today?
Hiding in the same place as most of the soul and talent in my humble(ish) opinion.
Tasty bass work too.

@nzoz1984 modern music just as good as the 80s?? WTF?!
It isnt spit on the 80's! Well when you think about it, the stuff they release now is usually rehashed old tunes from all the eras
