I love the cymbal crashes at 1:26 and 1:28. Whoever thought of adding that in is a pure genius, because I see it as a way to enhance the dream-like state just before everything falls apart right in front of his eyes. The original ending, like I said, still exists but it's not available to the public, not yet anyway. Maybe someday they'll release a dvd with the original ending as a special feature, who knows? But if you want to know exactly how it plays out, look up the Vacation Script online and it'll tell you. There are no pictures or screenshots, so you'll have to use your imagination.

@pytko3 There are 3 pictures of the original ending. Two of them are the Griswalds aboard the airplane that going to Atlanta and the other is the Griswalds on the patio by the pool of Roy Wally's mansion with holding the gun and Ellen and the kids standing behind him smiling nervously.

After the park, the Griswalds were on a plane home wearing Marty Moose Hats but hear that it's going to Atlanta and Clark yells that they're on the WRONG plane just as it takes off.

However, when they did audience testing, the viewers hated that ending, so they had to think up a new ending and decided they'd have Clark have his family enjoy the park with security at gunpoint.

The footage of the original ending still exists, just not to the public. Chevy Chase has a copy of it, though.

ORIGINALLY, after this, Clark was supposed to buy the gun and the go to Roy Walley's mansion in Beverly Hills where Roy was having a business meeting out on the patio. Clark was supposed to drive the car THROUGH the closed gate, hold Roy and the others at gunpoint and demand they entertain his family. Which they did until the swat team showed up and arrested Clark, but Roy said that he's not pressing charges because he had a similiar vacation and said he's going to open the park just for them.

John candy the security guard is great, if only films today were like this:-( oh well reruns it is. What theme park was this i got to go and when its open.
