for someone who once claimed to have severe stage fright she does an amazing job with her concerts--she often sounds better than her studio recorded versions
Wow! Just stumbled across this, one of my favorite Letterman 'moments' through the years. I remember just feeling happy watching Carly sing this sweeping, joyful tune in an inexplicitly absurd setting. Never forgotten it.
Carly has always been special. Do the walls come down, That's the way I've always heard it should be, The stuff that dreams are made of, All I want is you, even the played out Anticipation is a great song. Very talented and classy lady.
This song is good . Carly Simon has one the best female around . Long time in the music business and till making albums . Keep up the good work girl .
Carly Simon is one of the most UNDER RATED singers of the last century. Her voice was pure magic and My God i was so in love with her. This is one of my top 2 favorite songs from her. The first one being her version of Comming around again from her concert on martha's Vineyard. Please someone post the whole concert. I am so sick of this copyright B.S. it's not fair to take away the music from people who really love it.
@revealer34 What exactly is your definition of underrated? Countless hits? Grammys? An Oscar? Saying Carly Simon is underrated is a huge joke, she may not be the hot thing to newer generations, but that hardly makes her underrated.
THANX so MUCH !! This video i have love to see it again !! I lost this video clip when i got divorced in in the early 1990's and never thought someone taped it ! Unfortunately vhs audio was poor and i am guessing my recording should have been really hissy like this ! I'll try to improve this audio with the new technology these days ! I wish you had run this thru a mixer increasing the volume (gives more db's to work on !) then re-up ! But then again ... Thanx for this memory lane flashback !!!
Impressive performance true to the recorded version from "Coming Around Again" with the confines of a hotel room. And I loved the lone man seated directly by her with a very expressive-but-trying to be cool face staring at her statuesque beauty! Never seen this before, thank you
Does anyone know if there was ever a standard promo music video for this song that Carly's label (Arista Records) released around the time of this show?
I LOVED THIS SHOW! Thank you for the clip. For what it's worth, I like this song even more than Coming Around Again. If anyone cares, the first guest on the show was Hunter Thompson.
Dave had a smaller audience back in the '80s for his 12:30 to 1:30 am NBC show. They were able to take more chances and try different things. Times have certainly changed.
@google3847 My guess would be because Carly has SEVERE stage fright and at this time during her career she would not perform live in front of large crowds.
@google3847 I remember another Late Night where they did the entire show from the green room. I miss when ths show was edgey like this, but he's still much better and far less scripted than Leno.
wow. i haven't seen that since it was on letterman originally.
it seems that i remember that the man on the sofa was the lounge singer in the hotel. i love how the camera exited the hotel room window. it was all so groovy.
bet the guy in the room below them couldn't sleep during the taping of this.

@sixtiesforever1966 Wow, not only anti-semitic but stupidly so. And Letterman is not even close to being Jewish.

Nope, the sofa guy is just someone Dave pulled out of the room. Hotel's lounge singer came out in the very end.
