  • I don't like what they did to Corteza making him switch his break. It's one thing if they are trying to play a safe break or just to barely nudge them apart. But if that break helps you make 2 or 3 balls on a break that is part of the game. It's just not in my mind a fair complaint to make

  • niels was acting like a douche bag this match

  • Kudos to Niels...who almost managed to unbury himself against the Young Hotshot.

  • maybe he did out play him we dont get to see all the racks and the accustats show neils has a better ball pocketing percentage.

  • maybe he has outplayed him, hey only show us the racks they want us to see.

  • "outplayed" my ass! LOL!

  • stupid rule..... its actually pathetic

  • yes he can't speak good english, but hey! this is pool and not a fuckin' english class.

  • he doesnt speak very well the english language

  • Most of the players just love the game and have done so since a young age...and when they discovered that they can make money doing it, they took that opportunity. So shut that big yap of yours you ignorant piece of shit.

  • Hey bigkillapimp:

Q: Why are pool players so offended when any intelligent challenge is made to their stupid rules?

A: Pool players are illiterate idiots with inferiority complexes who seek meaning to their miserable lives by beating their opponent unfairly.

Ever hear the term Hustler? You know, lowlife scumbag cheats trying to prove they have value.

I know you're just trying to make yourself feel better for being a moron, but go back under your rock before the sun burns your skin.

  • He was complaing because Van Corteza check the rack then hit a real hard break and made the nine. Then the very next rack he check the rack again and then hit it really soft so he was prolly asking about the rack and if the opponent can check the rack because all good players know that if either ball behind the nine is loose then you just break from the side of the loose ball and the nine will go right to the corner pocket. The rack was shitty and feils was complaining. How did they not know it?

  • please look on 15.20 .he makes himself a soft-break after he discussed.

    haha.

  • In fact, he has 3 balls going trough the break line, so his break is ok, even soft.

  • yeah but 8 balls went past the side pocket so how can that be a soft break? A soft break is one in which 3 balls dont go past the side pocket.

  • feijen is weeking like a real looser.

it was his last chance to bring corteza out of his game with this unfair shit.

  • I do not like this rule, but if this is the rule, everybody has to follow it, even corteza

  • totally disagree with that break rule. if someone is getting tortured they have to find a way out or get lucky and make something out of it.

  • I agree with you. The game should be alternate break, like every other legitimate sport. Or at least limit the number of racks run to 2 or 3, so the other player has a chance.

Can you imagine football, basketball, baseball, tennis, volleyball.... where you never had the chance to serve or start?

  • i'm gonna make this short and sweet...if you cant handle the heat stay out of the kitchen. In other words if you don't like the rules and the format of 9-ball or the way the game is played don't fucking play/watch it!! Why should a good player be penalized for playing perfect pool? It would make no sense!!

  • this comment was @ DicktheBowler

  • Stupid argument...

So if a basketball player makes a basket he should keep shooting

If a pitcher strikes out three players in a row he should keep pitching until all 27 outs are made.

Same in football, you score, you turn the ball over t the other team

Basically, the rules are stupid and should be changed.

If a good player is that good, he'll overcome any obstacle.

Make the race to 15 and the better player will win.

These rules are part of the reason that pool sucks

  • Listen we ain't talking about basketball, or baseball, or fucking football, this IS 9-BALL.....like I said earlier if ya dont like the rules or the format of 9-ball dont' fucking play it or fucking watch it....there ain't a solution any simplier than that!!!! There should be no such thing as alternating break....and you should be able to break at any speed a player wishes!!!

  • Now don't be jealous cause you can't play it, I bet ur one of those dumb lookin fucks in the bar who can't even hold a pool stick rite and got the see saw stroke up and down and side to side and if ur lucky enough to hit the cue ball alone u made a good shot HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • 9-ball along with all other billiard games (8-ball, rotation, straight pool, etc..) are games of precision. You have a big field goal to get that tiny little football threw, you have a big touchdown zone too touch that tiny little football off, You have a big baseball field to hit that tiny little ball in or out of. well in pool motherfucker you ain't got that, you got 4.5-4.625" or 5-5.125" to put a 2.25" ball in, ain't much room for error. unlike fucking football or baseball. SO FUCK YOU!!

  • @plmijnygcrdzwaquyijo

dude, it's obvious you're compensating for some deficiencies. Your latent homo tendencies are very apparent. Always stroking you cue and playing with you balls

Yea, real hard to playing this game. The hole is only three feet away, its not raining and sshhh everyone quiet, so this poor sad sack with a personality disorder and an inferiority complex can shoot a perfectly round ball on a level table into hole

    ..what a mook

  • The fact that you associate stroking with a cue and balls in a game to sexual innuendo in an attempt to insult people based on your own subjective experiences displays a low level of intellectuality. Small-headed, arrogant, thinking inside a box, etc. You wouldn't even be able to hack it against an amateur pool player, let alone these professionals who have been playing their whole lives. Get out of here, hahaha.

  • @evanlockhart Man, don't take offense but in the pool hall I've come across all sorts from studious artful practitioners to low life scum bags. I've met pros as well and they run the same scope. The game attracts all sorts, 'specially when there's money on the table and I've seen low life hacks beat the serious tournament players for the cheeze.

  • Because you're ignorant Dick, i've decided to enlighten you:

A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines.

  • You suck Dick- the bowler. Just like plmijnycrd blah blah blah said, If you don't like the game, don't play. You obviously can't play good anyway or you would not be complaining about the rules.

  • i dont think these 2 announcers like each other...

  • "Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I just can't see that coming up. I can't. I could see that if you're breaking and the guy winds up safe - but you're making balls! Are they trying to tell you you have to have a certain amount of strength? Are they ordering that? I don't agree", Danny DiLiberto says @ 13:43 - agree with him 100%. Unfair to effectively put a ban players for physical reasons. The push-out rule takes care of the safe break problem. Break's too easy? Let's go back to the 10-foot table!!

  • Oops! Grammar... Should be "put a ban ON", of course! ;^)

  • 51mins? my lapptop will die b4 then

  • have u guys seen lee van corteza beat shane van boening in da philippines in big money games? race to 25 games for 15 thousands dollars.da score was way too far.

  • back in davao city 1995 lee van corteza is only 17 yrs old and nobody can beat him in money games.

  • feijen hit it just as soft.. faggit!

  • dunno whether to write a serious reply to this comment or just laugh at it. hopefully everyone else who watched this video isnt a complete moron

  • Herbie the barber your full of SHIT!!! you've met Mosconi huh? Lemme guess you've also had a coffee with ralf greenleaf and lassiter back in the day? Ha! PLEASE!

  • Excuse me, but why shouldn't there be people still alive who've met Mosconi in person? I have. Does that mean I'm old and retarded? Well, perhaps it does... But still, does that brand any of us (hundreds, if not thousands of people who've, if not played him, then at least had a chat with him at exhibitions) liars?

  • generally speaking to everyone calling feijen a 'whiner', while he might have 'whined' by going and speaking to the director, the bottom line is that a rule of the tournament is no soft breaks! nothing dishonourable from feijen here, he just asked that the rule of the tournament be enforced.

you can talk about soft breaks, etc, and agree/disagree with this rule, but feijen's actions are a different kettle of fish. in this tournament, no soft breaks. feijen did nothing wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey andyhounslow go suck feijen's dick seein how you like him so much....that was VERY DISHOUNABLE of feijen to say the least. He only did it cause Lee Van was kicking his fuckin ass and Niels got sooky and tried to throw Lee Van off his game...and Lee Van still won! FUCK YOU NIELS......WAY TO GO LEE VAN CORTEZA!!!!!!!

  • Niels the best <3

  • Except for everyone else...

  • "look at da body language on the card girl"..

    hahaha

  • i have watched this video.

  • obviouly the blonde guy is taking advantage of corteza who doesn't speak english .. so he loses cue ball control on a harder break.

  • i don't know. it is actually a rule in this particular tournament, no soft breaks. so if anything, i think leniency was shown since corteza's soft break was allowed to stand, as he wasnt aware of the rule.

  • Niels Sucks

  • LOL, i saw him run out a $33,000 dollar rack playing "skins" on espn. He had to RUN OUT the rack to win the skin, and he did so like a machine.

  • Niels Feijan sucks. I hope you know Niels won the tournament of champions and the world straight pool championship twice

  • This is absurd! Now you have to break hard? Or its illegal? Come on, to make a soft break that is difficult for the opposition to clear is a kind of strategy too! If Niels is so unprofessional that he requires a hard break to clear, i doubt he should carry on playing!

  • I don't really see what the point is on having a rule that says you must break the balls hard. Exactly how hard must you hit the rack to comply with that... I just see problems with its application. Breaking from the box to 'encourage' harder breaks I don't really like but is at least fair and actually applicable.

  • Well Mr.Feijen i guess your whining and crying didn't help u win this match...your startin to listen to Earl Strickland to much...I'm glad u lost your match, looks good on you for getting sooky...way to go Mr. Corteza!!!!!!

  • that "terminator" was so lame and gay, takes so damn long to make easy shots. I personally hate those pool players... And guess what... all the hours and hours he spent "aiming" are all wrong, he never got the cue ball to where he inteded to... what a shame..

  • Shut up you idiot. He could give you the 5-out and drill your nuts in. Chump

  • i dont compare myself with him because there are 2 diff professions, dumb ass. Little kid like u dont know shit ok? Compare him with other players and u see. Anyway i'm a statistican, if he comes in my field, guess what will happen....

    ur so stupid, kid

  • Obviously you don't know much about pool.

  • obviously, what do u know about pool? I'd love to play few racks w/ u. And by the way, how would u classified some1 as knowing much or not knowing much?

  • Well, out of 168 players in my current league I am ranked #1. I ran 3 racks tonight, I've played for 15 years, and here in Cincinnati I've played with the best.

How would I classify someone as not knowing much?

    1. Stance (head down, in-line with back hand and also inline with bridge hand)

    2. Follow through

    3. STAYING DOWN! throughout the shot, no matter how easy.

    4. Rhythm and approach to the table

    5. WALK! around the table to see what there is.

    Also, I've met Mosconi!

  • Based on the characteristics that you said, i would believe that ur a prett good player. I dont play that much, but i have the ability to run the racks pretty easily and with decent knowledge in pool. Anyway, why did you say i dont know much at the first place? Nice talking to u , i guess, even not in a very good starting point :p

  • I think the no soft break rule is pathetic. I don't see what's wrong with it. As long as he is making balls then he is perfectly fine.

  • and i agree with the guy here that saids they should make jump shots illegal, to me all pool players should know how to kick, or to masse, or even tie-up balls to make it harder to run out, but i just dont like the jump shot

  • i agree 100% with danny diliberto, its very unfair to make a player break harder if hes not playing a safe break and he is making balls on the break, it sounds like earl strickland made that rule, thats a very bad rule for such a nice tournament

  • Very nice match. I just didn't see how Nils outplayed Lee acording to the comentators???

  • feijen plays too slow and seems like scared lol!

  • dude thats because this is not some 20 dollar entry fee tournament. if u pay a 600 entry fee. u may just second guess every shot.

  • corteza comes here to play pool not to learn english like the commentatots talking about

  • why fuss on hard or soft breaks. leave it to the players what they want. aramith should even encourage players to break hard rewarding them 1mU.S. if they can break a ball in half in the breaks. whats hard for efren could be soft for django. if there is to be disallowed in billiards, it's the jumpshot. we filipinos dont do that. it's not a good skill to learn; it doesnt involve creativity. we doubt whether the tip of the cue stick and the cue ball don't contact twice in that kind of shot.

  • ya mostly good points. but if it was a double hit wouldnt you just end up pushing the cue ball straight into the table?

  • of course feijen can beat corteza...

If you would be sitting there having to earn a living from playing pool you would not llow you opponent to get an advantage by using an illegal break.

If soft break is allowed then OK, but if no soft break is allowed then don't use it. Corteza was just made aware of the fact that he has to break hard, he wasn't even punished.

In the end the better player was Corteza and he won, so why do people argue about the break??

  • that's what niels gets for being a whiny ass, when there was nothing to bitch about. his little mind game didn't do him a damn bit of good, and he didn't break an ounce harder than lee van did on the break in question. what an ass.

  • looooosers are like that, Neils Feijen knows he cant beat Lee van Corteza and thats he excuse

  • he kicked his ass on the challenge of champion fyi

  • i thought niels hit em pretty soft too

  • you kiddin? corteza was very impressive. the rules are ridiculous. its like if your too good at breaking you have to just slam break and go for luck rather than skill. if you make a ball every time than thats skill and shouldn't be penalized.

  • agree

  • Corteza doesnt need English cuase he plays every ball close to perfect :D:P

On the discussion: if its a foul, then its a foul. I dont agree on the rule though exactly because of what the commentator says: should the rules tell you what kind of strength you gotta have to break? :S

  • thanks bcn

  • What's with the picture quality btw? Some other videos posted by BC are remarkably better quality. Still, thanks for offering us another video! Keep it up.

  • Niels Feijen is just worried that Lee Van Corteza is going to run out every rack!!they said he put a 5 pack on Niels at the tourny Lee van won....

  • Yeah, if it's the rule then you've gotta enforce it, but I definitely think that rule should be removed. Just like Danny said... if your break lets you pocket a ball and run out, then it's a good break. No reason to make that illegal.

  • nine ball rules are always subject to change.

IE: all balls foul or cue ball fouls only. If they decided to make a soft break a foul then it's a foul. Nuff said.

  • that soft break defense that neils put up against corteza was bullshit...neils was sooky that he was losing!!!

  • rules are rules..Jim Wych clearly stated that the soft break was NOT legal in this tourney (as discussed in the player meeting)...Neils was right to make the call--it was a foul...just be happy they didn't penalize Lee since he may have been unaware due to language barriers..

  • anyway i aint goin arguing wit ya...u should b able to break however the fuck u wants to...end of story i never posted that comment to start a debate so drop it....goodbye!!!

  • does anybody now a good pool coach in england and does anyone now how to get onto the tour

  • 9-ball Pool is turning into English billiards in the olden days. No "soft breaks" and the cushion rules are bad, in my opinion. What's wrong with playing a "safe" break if you want to? It's almost at the stage where the luck of the break is such that if you sink a ball on a break, chances are you win, otherwise the chances are you lose.

  • niels takes too long to shoot.

  • that soft break crap is just the game...

  • Fantastic!!! Thank you Billiard Club Network!!!

  • yey, more 9-ball!

  • Somebody get Corteza a sandwich stat!

Just kidding, never seen him play before. What a power break at the start!

  • Good Stuff!

  • If they keep putting these videos up like this: Im going to buy some of there stuff, because these 51 min. free tourn. are awesome.

  • niels seemed to have word with somebody..what was happened?

  • Hopefully with all these new and innovative ways to showcase pool, we can get more sponsorship into the game and show that all professional pool players don't have to worry about the bill.

  • Thanks for another great video. You guys are awesome!!
