  • Pretty smile! pretty teeth!

  • I have the scar on my lip and the speech impediment to go with it. And today, I had someone "Whisper" right over my shoulder "I think he's retarded" to someone three chairs away. Those cold eyes that won't accept you because of your voice and slightly deformed face have made me into a quiet teen, accept to those who are kind enough to accept it. And now when I do speak, I do sound slightly retarded because I get so flabbergasted when I speak. At least I still have my own pride...

  • @ocarinadude12 i can't believe that we still live in a day and age when people are saying such things. i am so sorry that you have to deal with that. but you know what - you are right; you have your pride. be proud of who you are, no matter what names people call you. you are an amazing person and don't let ANYONE talk down to you. for real. keep it up.

  • (pt 3 of 3) to cover the scar on my lip. All my life I worked hard to make up for my struggles. As t started to write these 3 comments I felt a bit teary eyed but I got over that after the second sentence, cos those early years were unbearable, but now I always say count your blessings, Thanks for opening up to your story, I wish I knew all the sequence of events of all my operations & had the photos but being poor one doesn't have the privledges. Hey accept my invite,& lets stay friends, Jimmy

  • I had my last operation when I was 16, they took cartlidge from my ribs & inserted it to my nose a& closed the hole in the roof of my mouth. I had to grow up before they could do that final operation. Prior to that I spoke horrible & had a flat nose which accounted for most of my miery cos the kids would poke fun at me, that operation made me normal in the speech deptmt & my nose appearance & for the first time in my life I felt normal, I have a slight scar on my nose & a mustache (pt 2 0f 3)

  • First of all I must say you look terrific & second of all it was so brave of u to reveal this story. Me I just try to forget & never talk about it cos the pain I endured in grammar school will never go away. Lucky for me I was raised in an predominantly white zoned school and the kids there were not too bad, but to make a long story short I had about 6 operations in all.I was born in 1950 at a miltary hospital and I had a good doctor who handled my case in the Panama Canal Zone. (pt 1 of 2)

  • Great vid! You look wonderful! I was born with a bilateral cleft, and I still have two scars that run down my lip but I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me. People say the outcome was great, so I'm glad! I have two holes still in the roof of my mouth which makes my speech a little funny, but people who I hang around with lots don't even notice it. I can't pronounce "S" very well which I'd LOVE to do. It's so great to hear other stories from clefties :) once again, you look gorgeous!!

  • I have it too also ur pretty!

  • Ty for ur story :-)

  • You are just beautiful~ I am 46 years old and have had over 50 surgeries and revisions over my life time. Had a full palate reconstruction about 7 years ago with a hip bone graph. The medical advances that are available now are remarkable. You have a beautiful smile. Thank you for your video as I know others will benefit from your information. P.S. Life has been good and "normal" and our children had no health issues. Keep doing what you are doing!

  • hi, Thank you so much for sharing this video, I learnt a lot of things from you. I am a boy who has this problem and even worse than you, because mine is two sides cleft. I have a question for you?

what did you do with your small tooth in your cleft?

I have hard time with it.

    please answer my question.

    thanks

  • @kcsh11 hi! the small tooth on my cleft is STILL there. it's little and kind of lopsided, and slightly off-color, but it is still there. at one point a doctor wanted to pull it, but another said - no way. i have had problems with the tooth too. it was pulled to the front of my mouth, but after my braces came off, it stayed pretty move-able, so they glued to to the neighboring tooth AND they put a bonded retainer behind it. anyway, i wish you all the best. i am SURE that it will turn out fine :)

  • @kcsh11 I had a tooth come in in the center of my mouth too, i've got a bi-latereral clept lip and pallete. I ended up pulling the tooth out my-self.... bad idea. Ended up tearing it out in math class 20 plus years ago and still have a small hole into my nasal cavity.

  • Thank you for sharing your story! I was inspired to make videos sharing my story as well after seeing videos like yours. I have a bi-lateral cleft lip and palate and have just recently had my last surgery about a month ago. I'm finally done. :]

  • hey i had tht ive had reteiners palat expanders since i wan 3 /: but im getting braces next summer and then ill b done! so im pretty happy bout tht!

  • what, so I 'suck' because I have a bi-lateral? wow, so much for looking at videos to reassure me.

  • @snazzzable no. i know that i don't need to respond to this, but i said 'which would suck.' it super sucked/still sucks for me with a unilateral, so if it didn't suck for you and you had a bi-lateral, then you are my hero. i didn't mean to get you down. seriously. so sorry. don't take it personally, bc it's not.

  • @seaforest95 wow!!!! i am so glad that you told me that. i actually wondered that for a while (i have a thousand theories that i don't actually research. you made my day. thanks :)

  • @seaforest95 wow!!!! i am so glad that you told me that. i actually wondered that for a while (i have a thousand theories that i don't actually research. you made my day. thanks :)

  • So I am older than you and my have more info for your viewers, but i would like to say you did a good job. I have a bilateral cleft lip and palate. I was in 1982 and had 4 surgeries by the time I was 4, braces from 4-18 yrs old, bone graft with hip when i was 11 and a nose job at 15. I now have 5 fake teeth on the top front bc I too had that 1 tooth up in the palate. If you ever want to talk, trade pics, anything let me know.

  • and then......?

  • Hey girly! U look so pretty! The doctors that fixed u up did an amazing job! :) I was born with a bilateral cleft lip and have had 7 surgeries to correct it. I am now in braces to straighten my teeth. :) most people have no idea that I was born with a cleft lip and so they assume I had a car accident or a bad dog bite (assuming this because of my scars), I explain to them my condition. They r amazed at how good it looks. My doctor is the leader of Operation Smile/Smile Train, Dr. Maghee! He is

  • @snowydro1 and I'm catching you making fun of cleft lip palate people AGAIN look bitch your as ugly MKAY...? So shut the fuck up and suck ur own tranny dick ho... Nuff said bye now :)

  • I was born with a uni-lateral cleft lip it wasnt too bad I had surgery a few days ago & am in the healing process right now! I can't wait to be healed & see the end result but good for you! I feel like people like us have something special :) you should watch my videos!

  • i was born with a Bi-Lateral cleft lip and palate and still attempting to fix it nice to see successful storys like yours too!

  • this is disgusting

  • hya i have cleft lip and palate too and this year at the age of 16 i am having my nose and lip done and i think u have come a long way and look really pretty

  • @mawwwable good luck with your next operation! :)

  • @mawwwable Wow, me too.

  • i think you are very pretty and you had good parents that took very good care of you

  • @scooterguy9 thank you very much. that means a lot to me. my parents did a lot for me, and i will never forget it.

  • hey i was wondering um how is your teeeth like all there like did you have implants? because isnt it suppose to be missing about 1 or 2 teeth?

  • @jaetheboy hey! sorry it took me a bit to reply. youtube didn't let me know you posted. i don't think i'm missing any teeth. i had a tooth grow in on the roof of my mouth, but they moved it forward. that's the tooth right on my cleft. it's half porcelain bc it looked like a fang before, but yeah. that's that.

  • i only had 2 surgerys and im 15 that is all the surgerys ill have because my lip is not that bad!

  • im 15 and i was born with a cleft lip and palate too.. ive had 11 surgeries and i have two more. i have a major surgery coming up next summer when im 16 because i have an extreme under bite and they have to line them up so they have to completely break my jaw. oh and my tooth was also at the roof of my mouth, but instead of leaving it in and fixing it with braces they just pulled it out so now i am missing those two teeth and i ahve to get fake ones put in during my surgery.

  • @alltheotherpeople next summer? good luck! hang in there till then!!!!

  • you look so beutiful. and I am not affended as I have a Bi-latural Cleft lip and palet and yes, it dose suck :)

  • yup you are beautiful. i have one to and im not sure if ive ever met anyone else that has one eventhough its pretty common. what age are you?

  • @milpup20 hey - i'm 23.

  • Richard led me to you, happy birthday! I'm already enjoying your videos very much. Thanks for sharing!

  • hi.. you look great.. am also a cleft lip and palate .I would like to ask or information fom you who are your surgeons ? They done a great to you. Honest....i would be happy if you can help me...thanks

  • @elsies830 hey! sorry it took me so long to reply. my surgeon's info is posted in the info section of this video... and i'm too lazy to copy and paste it. i know... sorry :) i'm like that sometimes.

  • im really surprised on how many people have cleft lip, i have it too, im happy im not alone at all, i have one when i was 3 months too, very sore, dont remember much of what my mom has told me about it, Love you for sharing(: if you ever want to talk yo me you can, not many people do, i dont really have friends since i can see my scar clearly and people ask me what it is but yeah, love the video <3

  • you know tn childrens hospital has a good surgen in knoxville

  • Wow they did a really great job with the surgeries. I have a cleft lip. I was born in 77. I've seen quite a few people 10, and 12 years younger than me with a cleft lip, and the surgeries have come along way since mine. I've got to look hard to notice if they even have a cleft lip or not. You look great.

  • I had braced for 12 years straight. From first grade to just after senior year. It sucked, not gonna lie. Had a the tooth in my clef replaced as well. =/

  • you dont look like you have it.

  • Comment removed

  • wow it hurts when u said it sucks to be bilateral... well for ur info ..you dont look that great u know. You should look at the mirror before u say mean things and if you didnt really meant what u said then why not delete that part! but u didnt Coz you really did mean it!

  • @aisa62379 YOU SHOULD GET A LIFE ... I WASNT OFFENDED ...

  • Comment removed

  • @AmanD5001 if i know where you live im gonna Beat the hell of your Ugly Ass Face and Feed your Corpse to my dogs!

  • Your comment was most distastefull and degrading and very insultive .... both me and my girlfriend both were born with bilateral cleft lip and palate and find your video very insultive and offensive.

  • Notice how a lot of people with cleft lip and palate write in all small cap letters. This is because they are severely psychologically repressed. You can Google studies about people that write in small caps. I've noticed this on every cleft message board I've ever looked at. Just an interesting fact.

  • @yeldarb11 um? are you sure about that?a LOT of people (with and without clefts) write in small letters. i write both ways - when i am in a formal setting, i write correctly. however, when i'm hanging out on youtube or facebook, i feel it unnecessary to write so strictly. and i like lowercase "i"

    interesting argument though.

  • @yeldarb11 WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? ohh i just wrote in caps... GOOGLE THAT

  • I have a blilateral. Had to deal with an amazing amount of social isolation my whole life. Never got past a first date. Nobody would ever give me a job. Luckily I was able to use the telephone and the internet and made more than enought to retire. Luckily surgeries are better now and young people won't have to go through what I had to. It isn't true that just kids are prejudiced. Adults are worse and the telephone never rings. Thank G_d for the internet!

  • I was born with a cleft palate and got it fixed a month after I was born. I got it fixed by Dr. Magee, himself, and I still go every year for a basic check up to Norfolk. My nasal voice has affected the way I speak, as well as the underbite, which will be fixed next June.

You're beautiful the way you are no matter what~

  • aaaaargh!!!! I still have vivid memories from when they pulled those cotton balls out of my nose!!! LOL YUCK!!!!

  • you look amazing!!! my family didn't take pictures of me when i was little, quite discouraging! i wish they had!

the picture in 2:26 looks already GREAT they did a great job on you!

on me? they destroyed my teeth! :(((((

  • i had a bilateral :(

  • No one knows what some have to go through. Hang in there.

Since we share the same flaws remember this:The things that make us different are the things that make us unique. It also gives us a unique outlook on life. You are obviously using this unique perspective unselfishly and to the advantages of others. Keep paying it forward and your cup will runneth over one day. ;-)

  • wow you remind me so much of myself I'm 15 and have it. Ive had braces for i think 7 years now and I had the tooth on the roof of my mouth too and i have that one really loose tooth too. I need to get the bone graph and my nose done too lol. My mommy had it on both sides and I actually think she looks more normal than me. Best of Luck!!!! :) Thanks for the video I think these ppl needed the reality check.

  • my sister had same as you, she 7 months old now and it looks so good! doctors can do amazing stufff

  • I just had a surgery for my cleft lip and palate today. I hope this surgery will finally close up the hole in my mouth. I'm going to miss being able to say that I could LITERALLY feel my sinus though. I have to admit though, its not easy fitting in when you're born with that sort of disease. Even though my doctors did a good job at fixing the lip, it still has a scar that people ask me about. I'm going to rest for a bit now.

  • I had surgery just last month to get the hole at the top of my closed. It wasn't terrible, but it was stil a little painful. It was worth it though :) One step closer to being completely fixed. ha

  • @Beth78900 really? whoa!!! was it weird? i can't imagine doing it. i mean, i have thought about it and my mom brings it up a lot. but it would be so different... let me know how the adjustment to it goes! i am seriously interested!

  • @Avonaliza It's not as weird as i Thought It would be. Im already used to having it closed, but it did feel a little strange at first.

  • I love you :) I love how you speak about it. Show the world girl. You're beautiful <3

  • @nukec thanks. that means a lot to me.

  • yeah, a bilateral sucks. you get weird looks from everyone.

  • @jasmynroar eeek. really? i'm sorry to hear that. do you give those people a weird look back??? :)

  • @Avonaliza whenever I can ;)

I actually have glared at someone who gave me a look.

Honestly, I don't think they're TRYING to be rude, it's just that not enough people know about cleft.

  • Do you have a hole in your upper palate? I still got it :( I wonder if you put something in there so food or drink can't enter from your mouth to your nose. :(

  • @TennisGirl3110 i do still have a hole at the roof of my mouth. it's a tiny hole, but rice can still get up there. i thought about maybe trying to get it closed, but i've lived with it so long that i don't really mind it any more. i think there is technology to do it though.

  • Thank you. We have the exact same thing. I was born with a unilateral on the opposite side of you. I am so self concious of my nostrils, but now I have a little more confidence as a person knowing someone else completely understands. It was hard being teased for it because alot of people don't understand what it is. I had a hip bone graft too, and I have a fake tooth in my mouth from the cleft. I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one. I get my nose done in June and I'm so excited!

  • @doodul there are so many of us. you are definitely NOT alone.

  • this helps alot, thank you. I don't ever see many people with this.

I'm glad to see people to relate to, even though I wish no one ever had this.

I found out today that my fistula opened riiiiiight back up for the third time, and I'll probably have to go through another bone graft. orz, I'm only 13, man, lol. Two bone grafts? C'mon, man. Oh well. Still, this helps. Thanks much.

  • @poncoyo good luck with everything.... i can't believe that it opened up for the third time. that really sucks. but stay strong.

  • I had a bone graft but they scraped the top right side of my scull, not my hip. my soft palate was short so my surgeon took some flesh from my palate to elongate my soft palate, apparently revolutionary as the nurses told me, which was about 15 yrs ago. It's hard to grow up with being different, thanks for your video.

  • @mandywhittles wow. very wow. i'd never heard of them scraping from the skull. sounds intense. thanks for sharing some of your story. it's always eye-opening for me to hear what other people have been through.

  • Thank you so much. We are adopting a boy with cleft lip and pallet, so the information you provided was very helpful.

  • GOD BLESS YOU

YOU MAKE ME PROUD TO KNOW THERE ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

  • thank you so much for sharing your story!! I have a cleft lip/palate and I've been going through a lot of ortho work too, and I'm still not done I'm 20 >.< anyway thanks again, I don't feel so alone now ^^ <3

  • wow I cant even tell u have had a cleft lip. u look very good. I also I have a cleft lip.

  • wow 4 sets of braces and I bitch about having 3! You look great! I hope to have my final nose surgery and get my braces off within 12 months! Did you by chance get any bridges or vaneers? (sp) I never got the bone graft--parents never got it done and now Im not a candidate, so I'll be getting a maryland bridge for the teeth that never came in and then veneers to make em perty. cant wait!

  • @lwight2

hey - i did have a veneer done. my tooth that i pointed to (the one that's glued to another tooth) was originally pretty triangular, and i was pretty self-conscious about it. so, it's half a veneer, porcelain. that's the only one i have. no bridges... not yet at least. i guess we'll see in the future. good luck with your procedures!

  • I'm so proud of you! My son is 16 and has had 9 surgeries? You are beautiful! We have spent a lot of time calling this a birth perfect!=} you have helped me with the realization on zacharys teeth shifting and that this may be a life long issue? Thank you again! I always say the surgeons give the clef children the chance to take they're childhood for granted. WOW what a gift!

  • @cowboyupzach a birth perfect? catchy :) yeah - shifting teeth will probably be one of his challenges. but retainers are a wonderful thing... they really are. i ALWAYS sleep with my retainer in. good luck to zachary!

  • Your mouth looks like a butthole

  • @velvetrevolver94 and you know what a butthole looks like, why?

  • @velvetrevolver94 obviously you're not educated... get some education dude!

  • @velvetrevolver94 i wanna smash your face so hard until no surgerie will help anymore...loser.

  • @velvetrevolver94 - and your mum gave birth to you from her anus - asshole!!

  • Question: hopefully this doesnt offend anyone and i get a honest reply is there a chance with a fucked up nose and lip and voice to be friends with a really hot girl or cute or what ever?

  • @rozz2656 - yes because beauty comes from within, grow your sense of humour and believe in yourself as a person. We are who we think we are and we have alot more potential than we attribute to ourselves. x

  • I have synductyly , it's also a common defect. While cleft lip is disfiguring and synductyly is really crippling and ANNOYING...

I will have a surgery to reconstruct my fingers.

  • Your speech is impeccable! You're really lucky mine sucks.

  • I've never seen any picture (of me) before surgery >.<

I guess my parents never took any picture as they just afraid that I would be unhappy or uncomfortable to see it when I grow up. So, I never know how I look like before. Anyway, I understand them.

BTW, I'd like to cheer everyone up, especially ones who have child with this 'gift'

they gonna be fine and happy w/ the surgery ^^

=^^= bilat cleft lip from Thailand

  • Rozz:

There is a surgery called in Spanish faringoplastia where they fix your vocal cords wich fix your voice

    Where do u live ??

I have ti find out a lil more the doctors told le is a possibility when my son turn 15 or so I don't renember to god I'm taking one day at the time . My son is 8 months

Anyway you have to love yourself the way you are.

  • does anyone know if the doctors can fix my voice its nassally and lispy and i HATE it more than anything

  • @rozz2656 - best thing is to train your voice, have a look in to some speech therapy exercises on line - try to google it. though be aware that it will take time, try it for 6months and keep a video diary - it takes some time to train your body. you are beautiful

  • i have a cleft lip and pallet too... im getting a bonegraph for the 2 time... i hope i get great surgerys like you cuz u lok GOOOOD!

  • Thanks to share your story

You are very pretty and your voice us perfect

    I would like to know

When did u get the palate surgery and did the hip surgery hurt to much ???

My son is 8 months he had his first surgery at 3 1/2 months and will have the palate at 1 or 1/12 year. I'm scare !! I don't want him to have any pain !!

    God bless

  • I have it on both sides... i'm currently 16 years old. I have had a surgery offered to me that requires then to break my upper jaw and move it forward to come over my bottom teeth, and then i can get the lip surgery to make it look normal again. when i was a day old i went into surgery and came out with two scars coming from my nose to the top of my upper lip, which i currently still have. I can't have the surgery to fix my jaw/lip untill i'm 18. sucks that this happens to us.. btw, u look great

  • you've only had 4 surgeries?? You look spectacular! I've had 14

  • actually a bilateral doesnt suck I have one...

  • @littlemoroccan really? then you are one strong person because having a unilateral totally sucks. cheers to you.

  • @Avonaliza I don't know, I think those who get a bilateral might have less chances of having a slanted nose therefore it looks better? mine is unilateral as well and I had a slanted nose too but they broke it and reconstructed it to straighten it. it still looks weird but quite "normal"

  • @littlemoroccan yeah i kinda got offended when she said that... i have bilateral too.

  • @avonaliza I know

  • cool photo you show'd looks like a seven in your lip.

  • You have GREAT teeth!

  • hello, i'm from morroco, i'm born with a cleft lip and palate, i'm 22 years old

i have a lot of intervention (8 intervention total), i will be very happy if i can get your msn or facebook to speak each other, i'm very curious to know more about this malformation.

    my email is patch.alae@live.fr

thanks for sharing with us your story

  • Your a star talking about this,my nephews was born with same as you, he is 24 now and had like you major surgery but in the UK they have first surgery at 6wks and he need new cheek bones as an 19yrs.. as upper jaw wasnt growning, he has had 24 operations....xxxx

  • I was also born with a cleft lip and palate and I sm very insecure about it how do you cope with it

  • @ciniero1 i just do. i think that my coping mechanism is just living it up. like, i still have legs, and i can walk, i can talk, and i can travel the world and see people who are less fortunate than i am, even being born with a normal lip. it is hard though. i mean, it's constantly a reminder of imperfection, which is ok.

  • @ciniero1 - believe in yourself as a person, it's the only thing that matters in the end. Don't listen to those who try to make you feel bad - they obviously have insecurities of their own. Be a strong person and you can deal with whatever comes your way......x

  • No wonder you like whistling!! You were a beautiful baby none the less. (Still are:) )

  • i have 2 people in my family (me and my brother) with this condition and all i can say to parents is kids are not understanding and don't understand difference your child WILL get a lot of torment from kids from school so what you need to do is to talk to the teacher to let the kids know why johnny talks and looks different well this is our experience with having a cleft cause this is what we have been through.

  • @spe11man I agree, living in denial is useless to the kid. and the parents need to be there for their child for support because there'll be many tears. oh, and never promising to the child that he/she will look normal one day is a good idea, because surgery these days still isn't perfect.

  • awesome story i was also born with a cleft and pallet and i find they really did a good job. I can relate to what your saying from when i was born to now ive had 13 ops i haven't yet had my last op cause my last op just scared the living crap out of me (the bone graph when they took the bone from my hip and put it in the roof of my mouth) but im still thinking of doing it the nose job thing and the lip thing cause i cant even breath from my right nostril well i remember having speech therapy

  • @spe11man don't worry too much about the bone graft. i did that when i was 9 years old, and i barely remember any pain. you can do it!!!! the nose job is really painful though.

  • Thanks for sharing. Our son is 5 and is absolutely beautiful.

  • Thank you for sharing your story. I have a 3 month old with a unilateral cleft lip and palate - looks like your baby picture. It's great to hear about the road ahead from someone who has already been there. I am sharing your video with all of my friends and family. You are very brave and I bet your parents are really proud of you. Do you have any pictures from your elementary and teen years that you could share (between the surgeries)?

  • @512Staci Hi -

I do have some photos that I could share with you. Would you like me to email them to you? I very well could, just provide me with your email address :)

  • @Avonaliza stacip @ sbcglobal . net

  • Thanks for sharing your story - it was both informational and interesting! I'm considering getting a rhinoplasty and scar revision that I have kept pushing off until my mid-20's for various reasons (mostly due to fear).

Btw, I have the same issue of a small hole in the roof of my mouth - but in my case any attempt to completely close it would do more harm than good.

  • OMGG!! WOW !! ME TOO i had BOTH and wow i never thought that there are other people that are like me, every thing you said sound similar i'm now 17 and soon getting a nose job, omg i'm so scared.

    thank you for then video.

  • @janicesrnec13 i was 17 when i got my nose job!!!! let me know how it goes!!! :)

  • u doing realy good job to genarate more knowledge of people

    they may have sergeiory

  • @Avonaliza I can relate to you so much. I'm a 14 year old girl, but I've had 9 surgeries SO FAR. I going to have another one soon to close a tiny hole in the roof of my mout (I know, nasty right?). I had a tooth in the roof of my mouth, I've had braces since I was 11 and I still have them >:( My nostrils are still a little uneven, and my nose isn't as pointy as normal people's. Your video makes me feel better because I'm not alone. Thank You!!!

PS Try the swoopy bang ;)

  • @kittylover789987 what a great comment! we really are pretty similar. i still have the hole at the roof of my mouth, but i don't think i'll ever close it. i'm just too used to it, you know?

thanks for the hair advice... i made this video last summer, and my hair is still just weird :)

  • i have one to why do ppl who have it allways says unforchantly its not who we are but what we do that defines us we are all unique

  • great video! you are funny and adorable. I am looking for videos to show for a presentation to help those with craniofacial conditions with self esteem and socialization. I am glad i came across yours. awesome job!

  • @aaronlewis4life hey thanks! i hope that the video helped you out :)

  • u know i do have exactly the same issue but still didnt do the nose job, u look great btw.

this is an amazing vid :) *thumbs up*

am abdullah from saudi arabia :D

  • @3booze السلام عليكم ت i studied arabic for a while, and i actually have a friend from jeddah!!! are you planning on getting a nose job soon?

  • @Avonaliza

    heey وعليكم السلام

    am from jeddah :D too

    maybe we could be friends

about the nose job i really dont know but its not a big deal

    ill add u :D

  • i had a bone graft taken out of my hip as well but i guess they did a little more then just put the bone in because i have a bilateral cleft lip

  • wow ur very brave for doing this!! :) i was born with a cleft lip and im always very self concious. im about to go to surgery in a few weeks (im 18) and im soo scared!! thank you for this xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • another question if someone with cleftlip and palate like smoked weed or like something would they die quicker or something or is it the same because i feel that im not normal and i should die because of my voice...sorry im just depressed and need help haha

  • @rozz2656 hey - i just messaged you :)

  • @rozz2656 a lot of people with no cleft lip or palate have a nasal voice (have you ever watched "the nanny"?) why would you consider dying because of that? you might be needing therapy (speech therapy and a psychologist to work with your self esteem). of course you'll get a "GF". I'm in my 30s and I'm married!

  • did you take speech therapy cause i have a cleft lip and palate and i have a lisp but you talk very clearly and articulatly. how

  • @zigzag42092 i went through speech therapy, but i also talk A LOT. my parents always made me talk. the ironic thing about it, is that i actually study languages and am quite good at mimicking accents. i really do think that with more practice speaking, it can become more clear. it is like music - you have to practice it before it becomes totally great. right?

  • well i have nassally voice and that lispy thing and i need a GF which i probably wont get until im like 40 because my voice so does anyone have nasal/lispy voice and still have gf/bfs

  • @rozz2656 you NEED a girlfriend? ... i don't mean to sound didactic, but i honestly don't believe that people can love others until they love (and accept themselves - voice included). however, i did actually meet a mom of one of my friends the other day. she did have that kind of a voice. she's married! and she has a kid! so it's most definitely possible. cheer up, champ. it'll happen.

  • This has almost 3,000 views!!! NICE! <3 :-)

  • is it just me or does all clefts have lisps/nasally voice at like age 14 or something

  • @rozz2656 not that i know of. it totally depends on the person.

  • @rozz2656

Sometimes it may happen that a cleft palate leads to a more nasal voice than the "normal": that's why speech therapist are for. But you know, a lot of people have terrible voices even without a cleft! With a cleft you probably have more chances to go nasal, but it is not a direct consequence of clefts. I mean, I had a cleft and right now I'm singing as a "first soprano" (I don't know the exact term in english) since 5 years or something.

  • @Kennylivestoday

sometimes a cleft palate makes you use your palate in a "wrong way", that's why the sound comes out nasally. Because of the cleft, some things that people would do "naturally" become unnatural for us, and we just have to understand how to do them. For example, I had to do a little bit of practice with talking because I never knew that I had to MOVE my upper lip while talking :P

  • @Kennylivestoday definitely. i've read that removing tonsils from kids who have clefts palates is SO bad, because they have developed a different means to talk somehow using their tonsils. so when they get them removed at whatever age, they have to re-learn how to talk. that'd be tough.

  • @Avonaliza that sucks for me then because i have a cleft lip and palate and i got my tonsils removed because i had tonsillitis and unfortunately a couple days after they were removed my stitches opened up and i started throwing up blood....nasty....
