@corollafrenzy - was only around 30mph if the data logger is to be believed but it made a real mess. Go to 7:20 to see what was left of the front right. Major chassis damage and completely smashed the exhaust for which we had no spare.
@corollafrenzy - No, the main problem apparrently was that the part of the chassis that holds the front right suspension arms was completely destroyed and the team didnt think they could fabricate anything. The exhaust was mashed also, and we had no spare. I dare say if the chassis was repairable we could have fabricated some sort of exhaust. Problem is runing an unusual car in that race means you struggle for spares, a BMW and we would have been fine (the team now run a 120d)
about the only other thing you could have possibly done was let off the brakes most of the way, and take some steering away, you still woulda bounced off the wall, but you would have missed the BMW and maybe saved some money on repairs. :) Stuff happens. I didn't notice the flags the first time either, but I did see the oil pretty clearly in the vid. As a driver, I can see how you missed it. Oh well, live and learn. Glad you are ok!
@vonjager thanks. I most definitely could have done as you say and may have even been able to stay on track. My problem was that I couldn't hear the tyres lock and it felt like a brake failure so I added lock to slow the car against the lateral grip of the tyre, as it was locked up it wouldn't do anything (prob did slow me a little more).
I didnt see the oil but can see it in the video, I was unlucky that it was my first lap out and I was still "getting my eye in" - oh well, as you say L&L :)
i like the way you explainedand described it. so i could follow your explaination. very good also is, the pictire at the and so we can see the result of the crash.
Only just read these, video put up for entertainment. Your welcome to your comment but read the txt next time. I couldn't see the yellow so I was at full speed on the racing line which had oil on it. I didn't BLAME anyone, just bad luck which cost our team 22hrs of racing and me quite a few thousand pounds.

No, I agree, it was not an Italian driving, I didn't him sound the horn for the BMW to get out of the way and didn't swear constantly for 5 minutes after the impact, or indeed blame the BMW driver for reversing into him.
yeah, you can actually see the flag... but i know for sure that had i been racing i woulnd't have seen the flag either... Bad luck, my best wishes go to you for the repairs and next years race
p.s.couldn't see the oil either
p.p.s. wouldn't mind seeing that outside vid if you get hold of it
Gutted :( , I have watched the video a few times and I still can't see the flags, or maybe I see them but don't know if thats a flag or not, I don't blame you...
yo bro i was spectator @ metzgezfeld and your crash made me race completed :) we couldnt see the m3 oil neither on the track but he did blow it well beleive me :p, and dont feel sad about your crash, every1 who drived the ring knows its easy to crash out there... good luck in garage and hope to see your NICE LOOKIN alfa 156 next year again greets from Holland

Good thing you crashed into another car that moved at impact...if it was the barrier the damage could have been worse.

What was the speed? It didn't look like it made that much damage! I thought Alfa was built like tanks!

@MaxxUK Yeah, that is my reference picture. It didn't look that bad to be honest.
So you make it sound like had there been a spare exhaust, you can fix that?
Do you have a link to a build or a website for the car and its progress to the build state of race-car status? I would love to see it!!!

Ok...this is fast alfa156 but...this is still fuckink FWD so you got answer why you crash in this way...

I race RWD most of the time and I am not aware of them actually gripping on oil any better than FWD.

i think the flag you see at 0.25 should of been a waving yellow rather then a stationary oil flag.
