  • Thing I love about rhythmic complexity like this, it doesnt require incredible virtuosity to play. ITs about the sound, rather than the performer.

  • Intronaut sent me here..

  • @PCBMain The power of Facebook

  • These guys are genius, but I get more musical satisfaction from Type O Negative. Personally, I don't give a fuck how complicated your music is, it's all about the end result.

  • WOW... Fantastic!

  • Brilliant, genial, magic !

  • Morton Feldman, Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Maurice Ravel, Erik Satie, Igor Stravinsky, Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Nik Bärtsch saved my life!

  • It goes right in the body. Ronin can sometimes feel like a drug

  • Sooooooooo glad I came across them. I was looking for something completely different in Jazz and found this. I am so lucky what a find

  • Wonderful group.

  • cant even describe how awesome this is...!!

  • this is sick. i don't know how they can do this without knotting their brains.

i saw them in mannheim last year and it was the best concert i've ever been to. brilliant, these guys.

  • I would love to see them playing live. They are absolutely great.

  • Yeah they are. Whenever you get the chance, do it. It's something you don't want to miss. My hope is on them returning to the North Sea Jazz Festival. I would love to see them there again. Man, that was great. Loved every minute of it.

  • i wouldnt be able to stand still

  • Zen Funk

  • genial Nick, wiiter so!! =)

  • Yes. They're fantastic! It's amazing how they can play music of such complexity without messing up.

Try it yourself with a friend - you clap a 5/4 beat (putting an accent on the 1st beat only), whilst they clap a 4/4 beat (1st beat accent again). Make sure to start together in the same tempo. On every 20th successive beat you should both accent at the same time. This is, at its most basic level, what Nik Bärtsch and Ronin do (or Mobile as they are sometimes known).

  • Now imagine trying this with a group of 5, on different instruments and altering individual tempos too... without messing up! Its plain crazy I tell you!!

I'm seeing them at King's Place in London on Saturday. Where are you seeing them on Sunday?

  • @sicktrick33 Pain of Salvation - People Passing By (4:55)

What you're describing, but with melodies:> It's called polyrhythm, and it rocks:>

  • Fucking brilliant . . . absolutely love this!

  • These guys are fantastic, musical mathematicians. I saw them at the London Jazz Festival in 2007 and I was flabbergasted! The concentration it must take to perform music like this is immense, with each member playing in a different meter. Can't wait for them to return to London.

  • last minute of this = pure awesomeness

  • fantastic ronin...

  • Merci pour l'ajout ! Une fascination à découvrir ...

  • I'm so lucky that I'm living in Zurich...

EVERY Monday evening: Nik Bärtsch Live at Bazillus for only 10swiss franks. The Best!

  • omg... I envy you... really do!

  • Hi Nik..so trifft man sich hier wieder..Deine Videos sind, wie man so schön auf YouTubisch sagt: amazing!! Hoffe Dich wieder mal zu treffen..viele Grüsse, Patrick

  • I've seen them on North Sea Jazz two years back. Amazing rhythm, amazing sound, amazing melodies. Great project, I would love to see it again some time.

They really should perform at the North Sea Jazz festival another time.

  • I've never seen them live, but I've got three Ronin CDs. Really great stuff. Very inspiring.

  • fantastic- this lot are the only ones who do this sort of thing right?

somewhere between cool jazzfunk and Steve Reich....Genius! and the rhythm's?! holy s.........
