My dad gave this album when I was 15 (early 90's) and this was the first song to really jump out at me. I had heard of Satriani, but I had never 'listened' to Satriani until then. This tune in particular made me realize that there was much, much more to playing guitar than what I was hearing in the Grunge and Alternative music of the day. It opened my eyes to a whole of world of music. Sadly he will never know how precious the 'real' gift was. Thanks Dad, I miss you.
"crap like Hendrix" ?? The same guitarist your sick of people comparing to Hendrix also has a ridiculous amount of respect and awe for Hendrix and sites him as one of his hugest influences. The day Hendrix died (Joe's own testimony) was the day he quit high school sports and decided he wanted to learn the guitar. Think, if Hendrix hadn't of died that day you may have never heard this song or anything else by a guitarist named Joe Satriani. Ive never been a Hendrix fan but I understand it.
Jimi Hendrix was nowhere as good a guitarrist as Joe Satriani. Jimi took his inspiration from his high times. Joe Satriani can always make a new awesome song, in which he can transmit all of his emotion.
Not like Jimi Hendrix isn't an excellent guitarrist, but Joe Satriani is by far the best musician in the world. The best guitarrist is Fernando Miyata in my opinion. Just... My... Opinion.
@3xaVioN I don't actually know the name of his songs, only by the song itself. But if you look for Fernando Miyata here in youtube and click the first video, you'll get a fresh example of what I mean. Good thing he's a Brazilian as well, just like me. For you to see how we are talented, hahaha. He was student of Kiko Loureiro, another incredible guitarrist.
@RJMazz There is no "BEST"! at some point they all reach a level within their own realm to which no one can compare them and say one is better than the other! Hendrix is in a class by himself, No one did what he did and even the best guitarIsts try to play LIKE him but even with today's tech, few get close! Surf you tube for hendrix covers by known players and you will see. Some of Jimi's sound was from trying to keep his guitar in tune while playing.
As a "rock" musician, artist, guitarist.....Satriani's depth seems to grow exponentially as time moves forward....a rare jem Mr. satriani is indeed. 1 in 10 billion. Joe you are a legend on this spinning planet, Hendrix would be awed and moved by your skill, vision and nature!!
@wildstringdom While I agree mostly with what you said I have to remark... there are less than 7 billion people in the world (I get your drift though...). Also, ofcourse Hendrix would be in awe, he was nothing more than a popular trend who brought a new "radical" type sound to people - albeit extremely mediocre compared to the likes of Satriani and other gifted guitarists. I'm sorry, I just hate it when people compare crap<---CRAP like Hendrix to great musicians like this.

An exciting, orgasmic and post-orgasmic blues. It's the same structure that "Echo". Nocturnal music.

The problem with opinions is that they are pretty much like asses: everybody's got one.

2:24 Almost got me dancing! I'm a terrible dancer and I hate doing it, but Joe just has that kind of persuasion!

@RJMazz - Miyata is technically brilliant yes. However, "The best guitarist" is an extremely bold statement.

Saw this guy @ G3 1997 at Concord Pavilion. This is probably my favorite song on this album, too; truly blues for the new millennium.

@puchalaka WTF...comparing John Mayer with Satch...you should be ashamed of yourself. Satch could play anything Mayer could play, using his teeth.

@PhilosopherOnWeed I do not want to sound mean. You meant to say he can play anything using his ear hair!!

thats so profound , good for you . the "simpler" song structures seem to suit satriani. he's at his best playing this style.

@xenthar79 I usually don't engage myself in youtube-comment-arguments but I had to say this:
You must be retarded to think that Hendrix is crap. He was the an inventor and a musical genius with more soul
than anyone before or after him had. Satriani is great, but he would not even exist as a guitarist if it wasn't for Jimi.
trhnpc 5 months ago
@xenthar79 lol if hendrix was still alive he would OWN mr satriani he cant even sing i mean wat a tard he just makes lots of shread sound like shit
massup88 3 months ago
@massup88 it seems you never heard him sing and play at the same time
he does on g3 concerts when covering a hendrix song
but he could make a song where he sings if he wants
