my wife is on antibiotics in her 6th week of been pregnant for a uti and im worried that the antibiotics could harm the baby developing all its organs but then again they say if you dont treat the infection it can affect the baby too..any thoughts??

@deacks1 If you don't treat an UTI it can cause miscarriage very easily. As for antibiotics being safe or not, always ask what pregnancy risk level they are. A & B are extremely safe. The Dr will prescribe C but there are NO studies on if it's safe for the baby or while nursing so I personally don't take them. Anything below C is a NO NO!

Hey. Yeah i actually have CUTI. (Cronic uti) I get them once a year. I got my first one when i was 14. IT HURT SO BAD! They thought my appendix ruptured. I was in the hospital all night in the E.R on my 15th birthday! then the took X-rays & did a cat scan only to find out i had a uti that was traveling up instead of down. It spread to my kiddneys and i was in the hospital for a week! I was so bad a was dry heaving & peeing EVERYWHERE! HAHA. It was loads of fun! Chris was there the whole time!

Sometimes even after you do preventative measures of a UTI once you get them it is so easy for them to come back.

im only 12 old and i have had 3 UTIs in my life and its not normal for kids to get them i hate them and when i get i get really bad ones

so! i had jumped to week 25.. and you had said you were having pre term labor effects consisting of pains that went from your back to stomach then vise versa. im very concerned becuz i am 11 weeks and i sometimes have the same problems, could it be my kidneys? or does this present a problem in the future? what do you think?

I get UTI's a lot.. I do the same as you. There really is no way to keep away from them, you get them you get them. You can't change it. I'm alergic to Macrobid.. It completely stopped my urine and they switched me to Bactrim which works great if taking properly lol

Do you take cranberry for the UTIs hunny? It does help. Either the capsule or the pure juice.

Yes... But we've only had sex once since I've been pregnant, due to the midwife putting me on pelvic rest w/ the few problems we've already encountered as a "just in case" thing since I do have a few miscarriages at this stage. Better to be safe than sorry.

Well, Im glad everything is fine. I hate urinary tract infections. Sucks! Seems like there hard to prevent when your pregnant.

At 3 mths of the pregnancy I was bleeding bad they thought there was no heartbeat but they were surprised. It wasn't discharge, it was my mucous plug, lol. We confirmed it during the exam. It look just like my snot. Had a yellowish/greenish color tinge to it. Not sure how to explain it. Mostly just clear though.

Well by the time most experience it, it might have pink/red tinge to it, accompanied by the bloody show. Mine didn't the 1st time, the 2nd time I lost it, it did which is the time I went into active labor (1st time was early labor) Weeks apart.

Speaking of, I just got my culture test back, from the pelvic they did when examining this, and everything was negative. Always a good sign :)

I used to get them all the time I have a condition that I was born with so I started useing cranbery after being on meds for 6 months, I was one step away from kiddney failer. I have never had one since and that was almost 3 years ago. Take on every day you should have no problem. It is safer for your baby then anything that they can give you. Take care.

TMI- but do you pee after you have sex? If you don't pee right after you have sex, it can/will cause a UTI. It always happens to me too.

Yes, I promise, I know everything can cause a UTI, I've had like hundreds. There was a Dr I saw a few years ago, that said he thinks it's a problem w/ my kidneys, the way they are laid out inside of me, causing pockets that can not be emptied, and causing pockets of cyst as well. BUT I didn't have insurance at that time and couldn't investigate other than theory.

Wow thats so strange about the mucus plug. Ive never heard of anything like that happening that early in pregnancy. Have you done some research online about it? Have other people experienced the same thing? Well, Im glad everything worked out okay.
