I'm going back to school this September, I just found out you can make toast using an iron. And I gotta say this video is really helpful. Few questions though, is the aluminium foil is a must? Because it seems dangerous when you are touching it to check out the toast.

If you coat the outside of the sandwich with a little mayo along with the butter the sandwich will brown more. The egg in the mayo has proteins which encourage browning. You can just use some of those mayo packets you get from fast food restaurants.

Also, try using mayo and mustard, swiss cheese and ham. Or cheese, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, pastrami or corned beef, rye bread.

EXCELLENT! You are one of the only people posting how to make a grilled cheese sandwich with an iron correctly! With Aluminum foil so you don't wreck the iron!

You are careful to protect your desk, and encourage the use of a towel or metal tray. You even point out that you should shut off the steam!

The only think I would add is that you could enhance this project by added a bit of ham if you like or turkey.

Great Job. Your Mom would be proud!
