I bought an imac g5 with no hard drive or memory and bought the parts to replace them, only problem is, after I replaced all the missing parts the imac wouldn't turn on! It just makes a high pitched beeping sound about once every second. Do you know anything about this? What can I do to fix it?
so let me get this straight. i have an imac G5 1.9 GHz PowerPC memory 512MB ok. So i can take out my memory and replace it with 2x 2GB memory sticks to give me 4 GB altogether and i will not loose anything but just gain speed?
From what I can tell that model has the 512MB soldered onto the motherboard and an open socket. That socket can be upgraded with a 2GB part for a maximum of 2.5GB. Your socket would be under the front edge of the monitor. No data would be lost during the process.
will the SDRAM from my mac g4 work in an imac g5? because i have one 254 mb stick and then 2 512mb sticks. the ram in my imac g5 is bad so i need to put in working ram so i figured i culd take out the two 512mb sticks from my power mac g4 and put them in since they both take dimm sdram. right?
Your hard drive is where everything is permanently stored such as your operating system, programs, and files. Memory modules (also known as RAM) is what transfers information back and forth between your processor and your hard drive. So no information is held on the memory. Hope this helps!
Hello, we would need a little more information to go on. Also many older Mac's have different memory for different slots. If you go to our site you can cross reference what your exact model needs. Hope this helps.
The computer is a Apple iMac G5 (1.8GHz, 20-inch, PC3200) According to your site it requires 1GB DDR-400 (PC3200), but doesnt specify on pins or anything else.
All of the iMac G5's take DDR PC3200 SODIMMS, have two slots, and have a max memory of 2GB. You can get this memory at our online store. If you are doing music production and are working with a large number of tracks at one time, RAM is one fix for the bogging issue that you are probably getting. I would also suggest getting rid of any systems that are not necessary. This will free up Hard Drive and potential RAM space. Hope this helps.
Just wondering if you can help me out just purchased a 1gb module and I am not to sure which slot I would put it in?? In the vid you removed to cards do I do the same thing?? greatly appreciate any advice you can give me
Are both slots currently filled? If so, what size are the modules? If they are both same size modules, you can just replace either one of them. If you would like to sell back your old memory, you can find information about that on our website.
I don't even know if you get on youtube anymore but, does this apply for PowerPC processors also? What type of memory doy ou recommend, does it HAVE to be purchased from an Apple retailer? I only have 512 so I'm wanting to upgrade to 1-2g. I'm not very computer savvy so please let me know, thanks!
Fortunately, having a PowerPC processor won't affect what kind of memory you need. The easiest way would be to go to our website and find your model. It will tell you what kind is compatible. Thanks for watching!
Awesome!!! That was amazing. I just had 4GB of memory delivered and I need to install it. Now I don't have to let my hubby touch it! Yeah!!!! LOL Thanks!
Your iMac (and any other computer) should read the computer automatically. If you want to make sure that you've installed it correctly, start up your iMac and when you've logged in, click on the Apple icon and select "about this Mac." If the amount of memory it tells you you have matches what you put in, then you're good to go.
is this the same process on an intel core 2 duo 2.16 GHz iMac with a 20 inch screen? except that instead of opening the entire back u just open the bottom. am i right? im just making sure. i really am freaked about opening my Mac imean i always thought macs should never be opened unless ur a iMac expert u know....so yes please someone help before i destroy my computer.
If you're talking about the new iMacs, we don't have a video for that yet, but it seems to be a pretty simple process. I found a document that will help you, so I'll send you a link in a message to it.
Much appreciated! Thanks, actually my iMac is the 2nd to the newer iMacs (white clear plastic). its just like this iMac, theres just iSight built in the top.
can you make a video on how to install more memory on an iMac G5 with iSight? from what ive read, its a different way of installing it than like what this video shows.

It would depend on the model of the G5, most take DDR SDRAM Modules instead of the PC100/PC133 SDRAM.

Memory does not store any information, all information is stored on your hard drive. So changing the memory would not delete anything.
Thanks for the video its a great help.

Unfortunately, that's not so easy and isn't listed as a part you can replace yourself on the Apple support site.

After installing it, hold down option+cmd+p+r on the first boot just after the bong. Hold it until you hear a second bong.
