You're a very lucky girl and just one thing trust me this computer is a real Marvel so don't throw it if you don't want it sell it on ebay or go to a convention of them to sell it please.
it was opened at one time but, I can tell you that its not been used there's a way to tell with those...they used to get like a "dirty" hue to the color of them when they were used even slightly...I wish I still had my Commodore 64 and my 1541 drive :)
It might not be brand new, but it's still an awesome device. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Commodore 64 and my 1541-II. And my MPS-801 matrix printer.
I bet you got in trouble for playing with your Dad/Moms vintage collectible. I'm sure someone used the heck out of it in the 80's I too kept all the boxes from my C= stuff.
I used to run a BBS (Bulletin Board System) called CHALLENGER BBS (Named after the shuttle while it was being built) A BBS is like a one at a time user internet using a 1200 BPS modem and a phone line that is always busy.
**Manuel Z** (Still use the same sig from the 80's)
to the people who are being rude, you seriously think she knows her family used that computer? look how young she is, have some fucking respect, the girl got excited and wanted to share something quite monumental with you, dont see anyone posting any video responses of you opening brand new commodores so sit down and shut the f up, this girls awesome for uploading this, thank you.
Going around, telling folks of a younger generation that your computers are sacred is not a way to go through life son. But I'm glad that people do take a look back.
We might have not been there, but if we don't learn from the past, we will continue making over-repeated mistakes, and deviate from what worked.
I say if kids do get to understand older systems, maybe they won't take the amount of RAM and space we have today for granted, and lighter software might be made. Just my 2 cents
The Commodore 128 had a Commodore 64 inside of it. The only real difference was the memory, (hence the name), and, if connected to a monitor, (as opposed to a TV), gave you an 80 column screen I got mine in '87 and swapped it for a 64 in '89. I wish I'd kept it now. Oh well... The floppy drive is so, 'big', because it uses 5 1/4" discs.
@BlueIsa7 hmm depends, im 24 and would open happily play with one, as your my two younger brothers who are 22 and 18, so pretty young in terms on the comodore, however we all played with them when we were younger, the commodore 64, commodore 128, atari 2600 and the coleco vision, many years of fun before we could afford to move onto more modern things so some of the younger ones were there when these were still in use,
How the hell can you open a computer that is several years old? As soon as you open an unopened nostalgia PC or console, is the incredible amount of down in value! X(
obviously, no one ever smoked in the house before they Got their first Atari, or NES, hardly any Yellowish...and almost no slip ups...1'48' or 128..lol, sorry, you failed, he he
@Larry198s I do :). My dad was a hacker :O. He has 3 and I have one. My C64 looks the same as the 128 is it a Revision or something?? My dad only has the old ones.
v- If not to use it pn a regualr basis to view demos, play with it. Not everyone IS scared of having it that "mint-condition", you know -_-'' And besides, it had been opened from before. -v
I still have a commodore 64 in my closet but the player one controller port doesn't work :( And most games won't let you play with the pad in controller port 2.
Don't be so hard on her people! It most likely looked new to her. Question would be why she was "finding" this in her garage? Who put it there in the first place? Can you even buy 5.25" floppies anymore?
I hope you trashed all the packaging afterwards. I know I did when I opened my 500 for the first time.
Screw these weirdo collectors that want everything pristine and still in boxes. You should have the damn thing on display and working if you want one. Not have it in some unopened box.
I really loved the clicking sound the keys made when I got my one. It was right like in the movies like Tron, not like my mother's old typewriter. It was so modern and space-age. Although that was not a 128 but a 64G.
My first computer! This girl is crazy. That was probably a one of a kind unopened box. Did it not even cross her mind about the value it might have to a collector?
Last time I saw one of these was 1989. A friend with a C64 had me drive him to Service Merchandise to buy one to replace his C64. He bought it for $129, we went back to his house, opened the box, looked at it for about 2 minutes, and then had me drive him back to the store to get a refund saying he was sticking with his C64. LOL
@sebastian2925 Not worse... He just decided it wasn't worth it. I thought it was weird myself. If 64 is good then 128 must be better right? He was a strange guy to begin with... Got fired from work for hacking into the cash register and changing the time so he could get off early. LOL
are u retarded. why the hell did you open that. that would have auctioned in the millions!!!! a commodore are easy to be found if u kno where to look but a one that is unopened is unheard of. omg i u just ruined an investment of your life!!!
@lifematch It would have auctioned in the hundreds... If she was lucky. Anyone who believes that box was never opened has obviously never opened one before. Everyone I knew had one (except me because I had a Tandy 1000) so I've seen plenty opened. The drive doesn't even have it's plastic bag, and the computer should have been sealed if it was actually unopened.
Do you want me to re-seal my C64, my C2N and my two 1541 floppy drives and do an unboxing?! :) To be honest, i'd rather carry on playing my C64 games, like I do almost every day! Two hours ago I had an hours play of my C64 Pirates game by Microprose - release date circa 1987!!! :)

I bet they've been used and put back in the box and put in the garage. The disk drive doesn't have the plastic bag. When I was done with my C64 and Amiga, I boxed them up that way (with the original red plastic bag like the C128 in this vid) and put them in the closet.
@Cloud98 it's not even nearly a same thing. Unopened is unopened and opened is opened. And she doesn't handle it too carefully. Look at that she just tears it apart
Congraz! Brand new C128, quite rare in 2010... Go get a RGB cable, a 1084 Monitor and run Risen from Oblivion on it! ;-) Pretty much the only thing that ever rendered pretty graphics on C128
Boxed one in NEW condition is worth about $500 or so, this one is not in good condition as it has signs of yellowing , I sold one 2 years ago in the MINT condition for £300 (Uk Pounds). I also sold a commodore SX64 for £400 ( about 700 USD) the
@blazer666del oh man you shoot too high about the prices, i don't care if they were in mint condition, the thing is that nowadays i'm using the emulator for the Commodore games and also for the Amiga...

OOOO MY GOOODD!! what ta hell ?!?!! unboxing commodore 128 ?!?!?! WTF ?!?!? is the same sensation like unboxing a mamut in north pole or unboxing a tyranosaurius rex ...can t be possible!! sell it on ebay i will buy it!
I used to have one of these when I was little! We had the box for it too but I can't find it now. You could fit about 10 games on one of those 5 1/4" floppies.
Maybe opening it wasn't the best idea. Anybody knows how much a Commodore 125D might worth now? Not never opened, but a working 2 part, metal case one? I'm curious what value I have in my kitchen.
DUDE...this was a seriously awesome video for many different reasons. I remember being 4 years old and my dad brought home the Vic-20. We have come a very long way in 28 years.
I don't think a C128 is that valuable, even its new in box. After all, there where 4.000.000 units produced, so there should by MANY new in box left somewhere.
Every(!) technical device is made to be used. I don't like collectors who put this poor things into a showcase just to get pleasure from looking at it. Many people will hate me for that, but I unbox EVERY thing I get und try to run it .. after some checks for aged components or similar, of course. I think its just no adequate housing for technical devices to imprisom them in boxes or showcases until they are rotten from standing around without ever having a chance to fullfil thier determination.
Make sure to take care of that. It's a classic.

I bet they've been used and put back in the box and put in the garage. The disk drive doesn't have the plastic bag. When I was done with my C64 and Amiga, I boxed them up that way (with the original red plastic bag like the C128 in this vid) and put them in the closet.

Never. I say !!!NEVER!!! open an unboxed Commodore or any old computer or additional hardware.
amigapoika 1 year ago
@amigapoika
Why does it matter? Its not like you can't wrap it back up to look like it was unopened.
Cloud98 1 year ago
@Cloud98 it's not even nearly a same thing. Unopened is unopened and opened is opened. And she doesn't handle it too carefully. Look at that she just tears it apart
amigapoika 1 year ago
@Cloud98 vintage is all about condition and rareness. and what could be better than unboxed :/

Congraz! Brand new C128, quite rare in 2010... Go get a RGB cable, a 1084 Monitor and run Risen from Oblivion on it! ;-) Pretty much the only thing that ever rendered pretty graphics on C128
see csdb dot c64 dot org...
RFO V2 works on NTSC, too...

I think this is not a new one. Just watch the space key at 2:19! It's not in line with the edge of the house. The left side is lower.

@Taru58 depends but I'd say around 200-300 USD

Hey kid, you realize that that was a collectors item? By opening it up you probably threw away like $20,000...

I don't think a C128 is that valuable, even its new in box. After all, there where 4.000.000 units produced, so there should by MANY new in box left somewhere.

Haha, she could have got many brand new PS3 for that old computer!!
fredrik999z 1 year ago
Every(!) technical device is made to be used. I don't like collectors who put this poor things into a showcase just to get pleasure from looking at it. Many people will hate me for that, but I unbox EVERY thing I get und try to run it .. after some checks for aged components or similar, of course. I think its just no adequate housing for technical devices to imprisom them in boxes or showcases until they are rotten from standing around without ever having a chance to fullfil thier determination.

the commodore was the first computer i used and still today i think it is the best computer ever it did newer crash or have other problems...
