Yes-it does us all (especially the artists) a real disservice. Nobody would choose to have their music presented in this horrible fashion. Randy Rhoads is not God, and you're a dick for posting this piece of shit-even though the players are great.
The post was obviously meant for the person who did post it-I should have specified that, but it seems kind of obvious-I was agreeing with you, which is why I started my post with the word "yes". Why don't you quit hating on people that accomplished more in their first 20 years of life than you ever will, and go help your mommy clean the skid marks off your undies. Go away, you sad pathetic troll.
What did either of these fucks ever do for music? Rhoads was a true inovator. Or maybe you're so ignorant when it comes to music all you can do is insult people?
You're accusing me of doing nothing but insulting people? Dude, I'm here because I like these guys. You're the one desperate for opportunities to sling shit, and you're getting insulted for disrespecting musicians. I don't spend much time insulting people, but I will insult someone that's here just to hate. If you like Randy Rhoads-great-go enjoy his performances instead of trolling. You're wasting your life-it's pathetic, and nobody thinks you're clever for it.
Not insulting? You called the dude who posted this video you keep coming back to a "dick" and an "asshole" without being provoked. So either you're really fucking stupid or a hypocrite.
Not insulting? You called the dude who posted this video you keep coming back to a "dick" and an "asshole" without being provoked. So either you're really fucking stupid or a hypocrite.
You don't get it-unlike you I'm not trolling for artists I don't like so I can talk shit about their work. The reason I called the guy who posted this a dick is because it's a shit representation of their work-an insult to the players; the sound is so bad it's painful. Again-I like the artists, and am not here to trash someone's art, but to enjoy and appreciate it. The dick who posted this made that impossible. There is a perfectly listenable version-this one is hideous.
I wasn't here to trash their art either, but then I read your stupid comment about how you didn't like Randy Rhoads, and I thought Randy did more for guitar than either of these dudes. So I pointed out that you don't know what you're talking about. Furthermore just because someone has a bad recording doesn't mean they're a dick. This is the best version of this performance he could find and he wanted to share it with people. You should be thankful that there are people like that.
I do like Randy-what I said was he isn't "god"-learn to read. He was great, but not ground-breaking, just a cool player. Ask the artists if they are "thankful" for people that post hideous, painful versions of their work on the internet without permission. Reread your own comments-you called these players "assholes". You're a troll, plain and simple. I'm a fan who thinks players ought to be respected-this video disrespects them; so do your comments.
It's just a bad recording. If it wasn't for bad recordings being released we wouldn't have half of the Lenny Breau material that's out there. I encourage people to post whatever they can find regardless of quality so we have a larger pool to draw from. Maybe you want to live in a world were only the finest things get released, but then why even visit a page like YouTube where the spirit is personal videos?
Get over yourself. Did we really need a douche like you to point out that Randy isn't actually a god? Are you that stupid that you thought people couldn't tell the difference. "Guitar God" is an expression guitar players have been using for ages, and Randy is indeed a guitar god. He was ground-breaking, and played in a way that no one before him did. Unlike these two who just play the same licks but slightly faster.
You think Randy was "ground-breaking" and Greg Howe and Paul Gilbert are just recycling his licks a bit faster? You need to grow a brain and some ears before you call other people stupid. As to your previous comment, I guess you think artists should have no say in the distribution of their work. You can bet no guitarist would be happy with shit like this vid. I didn't say "only the finest", but give me a break-not every turd (such as this) should be posted just because it exists.
Yes. I don't think Paul Gilbert has ever played a scale outside of the pentatonic or diatonic ones he continually uses. His songs are generic rock with typical chord progressions, and his solos have no melodic deviation whatsoever. Everything he plays is by the books rudementary harmony. It was old 50 years ago! Never mind now.
Good luck with your search for someone who finds your opinions even slightly interesting, let alone informed. Congrats on having learned the word "diatonic". Bye
If you know so much tell me specifically what does Gilbert do that's so revolutionary. Name one song where he plays a chord progression that isn't generic. Name a solo where he uses some outisde scales or anything that isn't run of the mill. You can't can you? You're just an ignorant tool who thinks if you play real fast you must be creative. Go take a theory class you dumb fuck.
You've got to get a life beyond trolling from your mommy's basement. You're a bore and an idiot in addition to being an annoying little fuck. You waste all your time trying to drum up arguments online since nobody in the real world will talk to you. No wonder you attract so many haters. Nobody is impressed, but I have no time to join your haters' club. Go away, I'm done with you.
Still don't know anything about music? I'm waiting what did Paul do that was so groundbreaking? What new musical concepts did he develop? Do you even know what music is?
Copying Van Halen? Really? First off they both came out at the same time. Van Halen had mass production and label support slightly before Rhoads but they'd both been comming up since '72 basically playing the way they played later. Now tell me what song does Van Halen play neo-classical in? And don't tell me Spanish Fly. Randy was much more fluent with the modes and outside scales. When did Van Halen use a whole tone scale? Randy was more adventerous when it came to outside playing.
Actually I just went and double checked the facts. Randy's first album with Quiet Riot came out in '77 one year before Van Halens first album in '78. You should really make sure you know what you're talking about before you make yourself look like an idiot. Maybe next time.
My God you have a lot of time on your hands. I won't tell you Randy sux-I like him too, and I don't troll his videos trying to tell people that worship him how much better my favorites are, or that he admitted copying Eddie. Using whole tone, or "neo-classical" (a misnomer), or "outside scales" (no such thing) isn't "better", or new. BTW-I didn't say Paul Gilbert is "groundbreaking"-just another good player you trashed. Howe is by far the more interesting player. Not "assholes" or "fucks".
No such thing as an outside scale? Playing a scale outside the harmony. So If I'm in the key of G and we're playing a G chord but I play and F# Whole Tone it is outside of the harmony therefore an outside scale. Neo-Classical is playing with classical elements after the fact. So Randy borrowing from classical music for his rock is definately Neo-Classical. This was all ground-breaking at the time for the style of music he was involved in. You seem to have a lot of time as well. Use it to learn.
Neo-Classical is a term used to describe someone using classical theorys or cliches in their music. Randy does this so it applies. Furthermore Neo-Classical as a sub-genre pertains to metal, and Randy is deffinately doing this. "Outside Scales" are any scales "outside" of the key you're in. Belive it or not you can play scales "outside" the key or even "outside" the progression so they deffinately exist. Maybe you should learn something about the subject so you don't look like a total douche.
Obviously you can play scales, chords and arpeggios outside the harmony. They are still just scales, chords and arpeggios-not "outside scales" etc. I know what "neo-classical" means-it's a pretentious misnomer because metal has nothing to do with classical, other than a few borrowed riffs. Actually classical is a period, and the riffs are mostly from an earlier era. "Bach-n-roll" is more appropriate-still wrong-but at least it shows some humor. You and your heros take yourselves too seriously.
Actually classical works better because of the lack of counterpoint. It's mostly harmonies in thirds wich is more characteristic of the classical period. Futhermore if you play a scale outside the key it is an outside scale. Many people name it as such. Lastly I never said you need to know thoery, but rather I'm interested in players who are doing something new. Hendrix managed to achieve this without theroy. Some people use thoery to make something new. All that matters is the end result.
Sunderlanding is just a very opinionated guy that thinks whatever he says is all that matters.I have yet to see him have a discussion without arguing. He also thinks that when people have an opinion and say it they have no balls, and are afraid to assert their opinions as facts.Ya just cant argue with a guy like that.
it comes down to this these two worthless pieces of shit think their lives hold an ounce of talent?
well then why aren't they playin shows like Howe or Gilbert you two mutherfuckers are the kind of people who should have been aborted idiots who argue over the internet
@Sunderlanding Paul gilbert may not use alot of jazz theory and progressions, but he uses his ear for straight forward rock and blues, which is what he does. Greg Howe switched from Metal to fusion/jazz so of course more of his music will have more theory. It is hard to compare the two since paul doesn't play jazz and greg does. Again its like comparing apples and oranges. just because Gilbert isn't using a lydian dominant scale over a C7b5 doesn't mean he doesnt use theory
I never said he didn't use theory. Just that he doesn't use his knowledge of theory to do anything new. Sure it's straight ahead rock. That's kinda why it's lame. I mean if you take away the shred it's just another cheesy rock song. I'm not interested in listening to someone show me how fast he can play the most basic scales over the most basic chord progression.
Nobody is impressed that you had music theory classes-you're still just a pedantic troll, and most of us that know a bit of theory are smart enough to know you can say plenty with a limited vocabulary-like Einstien said, and with the guitar, Hendrix proved, "imagination is more important than knowledge". I know lots of people that have a lot of harmonic knowledge, and know they'll never make say anything as profound as Jimi. Even people who don't know theory still know you're blowing smoke.
Greg is a fantastic guitarist for over 20 years that I know of and has never gotten the attention I think he deserves but that is also because the genre he is most associated with is a lot under the radar, him being a fusion/jazz composer usually is left to a select audience unfortunately,it is nice to see him getting out there here with a bit more famous Paul Gilbert.
@Fendershred50 I think it's because people refuse to give him attention cause they are intimidated by his intricate fusion licks, which is actually a compliment to Greg in my opinion. Meanwhile Paul Gilbert's stuff is more familiar to us Western music-infested listeners.
There's a decent sounding clip of this same performance-look for it. The asshole that posted this should remove it, and then try to grow a pair of ears.
having listened to both of these guys for over 10 years, i honestly say i love listening to them play even more than when i was a kid. paul's playing is raw and has a ton of attitude but i can honestly say some of the stuff greg pulls out of the bag in terms of phrasing puts chills down my spine.
Besides being the last real rock guitar hero? The man is INSANE! He has great licks anywhere from neo-classical to hard-rock. The man is a virtuoso(SP?) he has a style of his own. Instrumental badass and gets down and gets shit right. I prefer Richie Kotzen over him but there isn't a reason I can say Paul Gilbert is not amazing, His playing is painted poetry being thrown at you in every direction! That's the best way I can describe him.
well, how about his unmatched technicality and speed? he doesn't overdo sweeps like everyone else, he does string skipping that i haven't seen anyone else do ever. add that onto evelskunny's comment and thats an introductory to the awesomeness that is Paul Gilbert
i wish by 70 years in to the future not only will Mic Distortion will be removed but you could actually experience the video in a full life size scale hologram.

And he truely wants to hear the other guys (in this case Greg Howe) let loose. He himself rarely lets loose any more and plays the way he's capable of. But when he does, it's stunning.

Gregorypeckory 2 years ago
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
Good luck with your search for someone who finds your opinions even slightly interesting, let alone informed. Congrats on having learned the word "diatonic". Bye
Gregorypeckory 2 years ago
If you know so much tell me specifically what does Gilbert do that's so revolutionary. Name one song where he plays a chord progression that isn't generic. Name a solo where he uses some outisde scales or anything that isn't run of the mill. You can't can you? You're just an ignorant tool who thinks if you play real fast you must be creative. Go take a theory class you dumb fuck.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
You've got to get a life beyond trolling from your mommy's basement. You're a bore and an idiot in addition to being an annoying little fuck. You waste all your time trying to drum up arguments online since nobody in the real world will talk to you. No wonder you attract so many haters. Nobody is impressed, but I have no time to join your haters' club. Go away, I'm done with you.
Gregorypeckory 2 years ago
Still don't know anything about music? I'm waiting what did Paul do that was so groundbreaking? What new musical concepts did he develop? Do you even know what music is?
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
I thought I told you to hit the road-go listen to your god, who revolutionized guitar by copying Van Halen.
Gregorypeckory 2 years ago
Copying Van Halen? Really? First off they both came out at the same time. Van Halen had mass production and label support slightly before Rhoads but they'd both been comming up since '72 basically playing the way they played later. Now tell me what song does Van Halen play neo-classical in? And don't tell me Spanish Fly. Randy was much more fluent with the modes and outside scales. When did Van Halen use a whole tone scale? Randy was more adventerous when it came to outside playing.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
Actually I just went and double checked the facts. Randy's first album with Quiet Riot came out in '77 one year before Van Halens first album in '78. You should really make sure you know what you're talking about before you make yourself look like an idiot. Maybe next time.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
My God you have a lot of time on your hands. I won't tell you Randy sux-I like him too, and I don't troll his videos trying to tell people that worship him how much better my favorites are, or that he admitted copying Eddie. Using whole tone, or "neo-classical" (a misnomer), or "outside scales" (no such thing) isn't "better", or new. BTW-I didn't say Paul Gilbert is "groundbreaking"-just another good player you trashed. Howe is by far the more interesting player. Not "assholes" or "fucks".
Gregorypeckory 2 years ago
No such thing as an outside scale? Playing a scale outside the harmony. So If I'm in the key of G and we're playing a G chord but I play and F# Whole Tone it is outside of the harmony therefore an outside scale. Neo-Classical is playing with classical elements after the fact. So Randy borrowing from classical music for his rock is definately Neo-Classical. This was all ground-breaking at the time for the style of music he was involved in. You seem to have a lot of time as well. Use it to learn.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
Neo-Classical is a term used to describe someone using classical theorys or cliches in their music. Randy does this so it applies. Furthermore Neo-Classical as a sub-genre pertains to metal, and Randy is deffinately doing this. "Outside Scales" are any scales "outside" of the key you're in. Belive it or not you can play scales "outside" the key or even "outside" the progression so they deffinately exist. Maybe you should learn something about the subject so you don't look like a total douche.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
Obviously you can play scales, chords and arpeggios outside the harmony. They are still just scales, chords and arpeggios-not "outside scales" etc. I know what "neo-classical" means-it's a pretentious misnomer because metal has nothing to do with classical, other than a few borrowed riffs. Actually classical is a period, and the riffs are mostly from an earlier era. "Bach-n-roll" is more appropriate-still wrong-but at least it shows some humor. You and your heros take yourselves too seriously.
Gregorypeckory 2 years ago 2
Actually classical works better because of the lack of counterpoint. It's mostly harmonies in thirds wich is more characteristic of the classical period. Futhermore if you play a scale outside the key it is an outside scale. Many people name it as such. Lastly I never said you need to know thoery, but rather I'm interested in players who are doing something new. Hendrix managed to achieve this without theroy. Some people use thoery to make something new. All that matters is the end result.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago
Greg dont waste your time.
Sunderlanding is just a very opinionated guy that thinks whatever he says is all that matters.I have yet to see him have a discussion without arguing. He also thinks that when people have an opinion and say it they have no balls, and are afraid to assert their opinions as facts.Ya just cant argue with a guy like that.
petiethepitt 2 years ago
it comes down to this these two worthless pieces of shit think their lives hold an ounce of talent?
well then why aren't they playin shows like Howe or Gilbert you two mutherfuckers are the kind of people who should have been aborted idiots who argue over the internet
pastuiedada 2 years ago
Huh,I have no clue what or why you are replying to me.
petiethepitt 2 years ago
@Sunderlanding Paul gilbert may not use alot of jazz theory and progressions, but he uses his ear for straight forward rock and blues, which is what he does. Greg Howe switched from Metal to fusion/jazz so of course more of his music will have more theory. It is hard to compare the two since paul doesn't play jazz and greg does. Again its like comparing apples and oranges. just because Gilbert isn't using a lydian dominant scale over a C7b5 doesn't mean he doesnt use theory
bencon09 2 years ago
I never said he didn't use theory. Just that he doesn't use his knowledge of theory to do anything new. Sure it's straight ahead rock. That's kinda why it's lame. I mean if you take away the shred it's just another cheesy rock song. I'm not interested in listening to someone show me how fast he can play the most basic scales over the most basic chord progression.
Sunderlanding 2 years ago

@Fendershred50 A real musician don't need spotlight... And Greg neither
bati9rst 1 year ago
@Fendershred50 I think it's because people refuse to give him attention cause they are intimidated by his intricate fusion licks, which is actually a compliment to Greg in my opinion. Meanwhile Paul Gilbert's stuff is more familiar to us Western music-infested listeners.

having listened to both of these guys for over 10 years, i honestly say i love listening to them play even more than when i was a kid. paul's playing is raw and has a ton of attitude but i can honestly say some of the stuff greg pulls out of the bag in terms of phrasing puts chills down my spine.
deliriouscouture 2 years ago
dude, treat the music for what it is. Paul is great at what he does, and has been doing it for a long long time.
If we had a narrow mind then music would still be where it was in the medieval times.
grow up...

can't stand paul gilbert, what exacty is he famous for,
evelskunny 2 years ago
Besides being the last real rock guitar hero? The man is INSANE! He has great licks anywhere from neo-classical to hard-rock. The man is a virtuoso(SP?) he has a style of his own. Instrumental badass and gets down and gets shit right. I prefer Richie Kotzen over him but there isn't a reason I can say Paul Gilbert is not amazing, His playing is painted poetry being thrown at you in every direction! That's the best way I can describe him.
Garettenator 2 years ago 2
well, how about his unmatched technicality and speed? he doesn't overdo sweeps like everyone else, he does string skipping that i haven't seen anyone else do ever. add that onto evelskunny's comment and thats an introductory to the awesomeness that is Paul Gilbert
