i ran a 4minute 10 second mile last saturday and i wasnt even trying. i run 1 mile every weekend. next weekend im going to try to run as fast as i can for a mile. maybe get under 3 minutes 43 seconds
What is a 1500m time that a division 1 college would give you a scholarship for? I would like to run in college, and seeing videos like this kinda kills my self confidence...
How do you tell a true runner? By taking a high school runner-like 800M start, and finishing with a 1:46. 5 seconds off the 800M world record. Unbelieveable.
Dude, the third place person was in second to last at the bell and pulled up to get third! Nice kick. Hats off to Lagat and Guerrouj as well. Great race.
@Chocosizzles That's because Hicham ran a 54 second penultimate lap, and continued to accelerate. Rui Silva (the man who finished 3rd), didn't respond as much to the surge, and passed by all the tiring athletes with a good finish.
EL G was the man, if you don't think so, Google the world records...he still owns them! I love the sportsmanship after the race, it gave me some hope for humanity.
as a runner am.i know how hard it is,how understand the meaning that tears.this stupid people who making comments like shit,i chalenge them to try, only to try make only 1 week of training like they do.it was the moust beatifull 1500 final i ever saw.its esay talking on the sofa...
theres also a famous announcer who is british, at the mexico city olympics he said "who cares who's third" because the top two were so fast (the race was the 400 hurdles)... pretty epic, lol.
Way to threaten people over youtube videos. Its my opinion. Obviously I can't prove it. He seems suspicious to me. I love athletics, but its sad that the 1990's and early 2000's were times of doping across the board. Many dopers were caught only because they admitted it. But today, drugs are easily noticed in blood and urine samples. Its great, we are back to drug free running! Take a tip, attack the argument not the author, it really weakens everything you say, and no one takes you seriously.
further, you have your comments removed because you loose sight of what your writing about. I'm writing about athletics, and you are writing about my fat nose.............these two issues are not the same.
No, I removed my comment because I clicked 'post' before I was finished with the comment. Don't pretend to know things that you obviously don't. Do some research, try to open your mind, then come back and we can have a more civilized conversation.
lol what a loser. The guy is a legend with WRs and shitload of medals to show for it. Only a youtube loser like you who's sitting on his fat ass at home would think his career is overblown...
I didn't say that I'll break your nose, I'm saying that someone who is so annoyed at how arrogant you are behaving might do it. If it's obvious you can't prove it (and nobody can), then why do you accuse him? Why is he so suspicious to you? Just because he is North African? Hicham was a very dedicated, hard-working, faithful, and talented athlete. He won his first race at age 15 without any formal training. He had success as a junior and even more as a senior. What's suspicious about that?
There were plenty of dopers, that is right, but plenty of them were caught from drug tests during Hicham's career, and all the dopers who have confessed were implicated by some witness or other doper. Nobody has ever legitimately accused Hicham of doping. Nothing ever suggests that he did. Can't you just accept that he was a very talented athlete, and that he never needed drugs to be this good? If not, then don't tell me not to "attack the author."
FYI, you engaged in personal insults just as I was. Don't be a hypocrite. If an argument has absolutely no basis in reality and completely unproven, and then I show you the error and yet you repeat the argument with defiance and ignorance, then expect to receive some harsh words. And don't talk to me about people taking me seriously; what I say has basis in reality and is completely backed by what is known. I can't that about your arguments; even one unproven argument lowers your credibility.
thats right delete my comments when I speak the truth. I'm not attacking any youtube users with my posts. Hicham was a dope artists. Just like the rest of the north africans. how many have been caught? pretty much all.
LOL, the truth? You wouldn't know the truth if it came and took a shit in your ugly face. You are attacking us with how absolutely stupid your comments are, and about how stubborn you continue to remain. If you can produce any shred, any tangible shred of hard evidence, maybe I'll believe you, but you're just insulting us. And for the record, if all the north africans were caught... why not the big three, Aouita, Morceli, and El G? Defeating your own argument I see.
Guess who else was not caught? Masterkova, world record holder during the 1990's for women, olympic champion 1500 meters. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, could it be possible that some dopers don't get caught? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmm i wonder????? no not possible they are such stand up individuals.
@pavelkostov You see, pavel, we here in the States believe that someone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. You Russians on the other hand are different; to Russians like you, you are guilty "because I think you are." Evidence in history, from the pogroms of Jews to Stalin's purges, are proof of that. So, if no evidence exists that Masterkova or El Guerrouj have doped, then we the jury find the defendents not-guilty.
Ah yes, and Ben Johnson would have been innocent too if his bottle had not been tested for steroids. they never caught his blood, only his saliva from his bottle which he accidently gave to authorities. He would have been innocent too, and Barry Bonds. Never hard proof, hey sammy sosa looks legit too hahahahahaha
Blah blah blah. You are nothing but an argumentative coward. Stay like that, because El Guerrouj will forever keep the two golds and three world records he won FAIR AND SQUARE, without EPO, steroids, or any other PED. Your pathetic and baseless accusations will never make it further than youtube, PavelSHITTYCOWARD.

@babajouba Who cares if he is not American. El Guerrouj was the fucking king of middle distance. 'Nough said. I really don't know what you are arguing or if you misinterpretted what I said. I was sarcastically replying to pavelkostov claiming that El Guerrouj used steroids, which is absurd. SOOOO, what the hell are you talking about???? I am American, but I have nothing but respect for El Guerrouj. He is an inspiration and was an awesome middle distance runner.

I remember 1996 when he fell, everyone cried for him....like the king said he was still a champion and he will forever be Our CHAMPION ...Take that 2 Golds Anyone done that before ?? FOREVER MOROCCO and MOROCCAN
The marathon has been said to originate from when the Persians were defeated at the Battle of Marathon; Pheidippidies, a greek messenger, was sent to tell the news to the Athenians back in Athens to tell the outcome of the battle, in which he ran nonstop for 26.2 miles (or 42.2 kilometers) and when he finally reached Athens, he had exclaimed that they had won the battle, and collapsed and died; the story may not be completely accuracte, but that is what I've been told :P
hebb y hicham son los mejores, mis favoritos por lo q han hecho a lo largo de su carrera, pero hicham mis respetos por luchar 8 años, para conseguir el oro olimpico.
Hicham Elgerouj, is a real legend. and he is the best, not to forget said aouita and nawal amotawakeel, and other moroccan legends from different sports...Hicham is the best. and morocco has got so many medals throught the history.
Damn... As much as I like bernard, I was really rooting for hicham. He really deserved to win this race. This made me feel all happy inside so im gonna go eat some waffles.
Renato Canova posted on Letsrun that El G had completed the following session as part of his preparation for these Olympics
1 x 1000m (2:24), 60 second rest, 1 x 200m (26), rest 3 minutes, 1 x 800m (1:53), 60 second rest, 1 x 200m (26), rest 3 minutes, 1 x 600m (1:24), rest 60 seconds, 1 x 200m (26), rest 2 minutes, 1 x 400m (54), rest 60 seconds, 1 x 200m (26), rest 2 minutes, 1 x 200m (26), rest 30 seconds, 1 x 200m (25)

hicham was about to lose that race see how lagat took the 1st place on teh alst 50m then hicham came back again.
only on these situations we see the difference between teh good and the great.

I feel the exact same way. I started running because I thought what this man did was "magical." I wish I had heard of his achievements earlier...

how many kilometers in marathon of man? and in woman?

billyscience 3 years ago
Why we call it marathon? loooooool
rajawi9999 3 years ago
why you ask so many questions?
HaileHailu 3 years ago
The marathon has been said to originate from when the Persians were defeated at the Battle of Marathon; Pheidippidies, a greek messenger, was sent to tell the news to the Athenians back in Athens to tell the outcome of the battle, in which he ran nonstop for 26.2 miles (or 42.2 kilometers) and when he finally reached Athens, he had exclaimed that they had won the battle, and collapsed and died; the story may not be completely accuracte, but that is what I've been told :P

last 800 meters in 1:46!!!! I wonder if he could have been a great 800 meter runner as well. Gold in 800, 1,500 and 5000?
