  • just shit my pants with want

  • that looks like something you could travel through time with :)

  • i love when videos have comments unrelated to what the video is about...if you want to have your stupid arguments and conversations then go be gay on facebook

  • YAMAHA are genius all the losers complaining have no what real passionate music is... YAMAHA have pioneered instruments for many years you can make really cool electro music with the Tenori-On... Japan FTW!

  • Mmm didnt convince me, hope you can create more original sounds

  • Give me a break! This is utter shite

  • 3:12 is when it starts getting annoying

  • @cwmike08 lol true

  • Does the word contemporary mean anything to you lady gaga bieber rap lovers? Towards the end it sounds ABSTRACT, which I think is a great way to end a song. You morons wouldn't know art if it socked you in the nose. Music (and all art) isn't just pretty sounds, it's raw human expression, something todays music has lost. So I say kudos to yamaha for this creation.

  • @okhabin dude, those apps are MODELED off of this device, you dimwit. The hardware is better than those apps in my opinion. I've tried both.

  • Ingenious gadget....but I'll stick to the other million useless gadgets that we've created to keep us from masturbating all day along.I'm sure if I wait a couple of years I'll find one in a salvation army for $5.81 or something.I can find other things to blow a grand on.Smart guy though.

  • what an annoying device.

  • omg what an amazing thing I wanna buy one right now!

  • @AngelaPlant666 .....SIR! YOU can if you have 800 bucks!!! ....GOOD DAY !!!

  • @123shansun no... i made some research n it is not avalaible in my country :-(

  • @AngelaPlant666 ..... sorry abt tat !! :(

  • i think the only problem is it has bad sounds in it !

  • Look at what Björk's been doing with it during her Volta live Tour

  • @Cestpasmarrant Björk is all gods in the universe merged into one powerful and adorable Icelandic woman.

She could probably make music with a bottle and a monkey skull.

    But yeah.

  • how cute, I want one!

  • I don't really get why people keep saying how this is horrible music. It's pretty in its own way...just a bit monotonous. And extremely, extremely contemporary.

  • lol you little iPad app copycat

  • @okhabin And this was made over 3 years ago. Nice one

  • And this should be the multimedia genius who has invented this "instrument"!

He cannot play his own creation!

Just rumors and some random samples with a plastic thing which costs 950 euro?

  • *facepalm*

  • this was just a demo. what you want to do with it and how you do it is what ultimately determines its strength as an instrument- which will vary from individual to individual any way. seriously..

  • pft i can do that -_-

  • Turns to S**T around the 3:15 mark and descends into a ridiculous amount of noise!

    Disjustice to the product...

Even if he did fade it out nicely....

  • that was horrible.

  • Hurt my ears...

  • i like this ., hahhahahaahah ,. made in japan ., only the best!!

  • i like it

but the beep sound is to loud!

    Cheers!

  • who says everybody being able to nurture their musical outlet is a good thing??? LOL not me!

  • @emilshere

all of these non artists may have no experience but im sure they are determined. i think that an individual that does not know the rules has the ability to bend them, and come up with creative new ways to produce music.

  • How is a guitar a "real" instrument and this isn't? The only "natural" way of doing music is singing, using any instrument is using technology to make sounds that you can't by yourself

  • @senarodrigo beatboxing is natural too =)

  • @senarodrigo right? but this does need a energy source compared to acoustic guitars were you are the energy source

  • I never tire of this original inspiration.

  • cool.

  • that's kinda like the concept of Isaac Isamov's visisonor from the foundation trilogy!!! Well at least that's what I imagine. It's becoming a reality!!

its just the start of a new audiovisual interface technology........

So it is easy to use but very unlikely to have for its price?Well I guess that's an expensive tool.............

  • @massivetwin it's Isaac Asimov

  • was this filmed at super deluxe?

  • this is a demo hes doing right, not a performance i hope.

  • This is a fucking GENIUS idea! this is probably the coolest shit ive seen in a long time honestly... this can actually help with pple making ALOT of songs lol. Smart man.

  • Pretty bad performance. he really is a technician :)

  • WE dont want the Synth

We Dont want the Speakers built in

    Dont Want a Headphone Jack

i dont want to control it with other gear

    -

I Just Want to Send Midi Data with it ! for around $300 US

  • Boring......no ?

  • HOLY GOD, MAKE IT STOP!!!!! LOL But really, I think it's cool. I would never stop playing with this thing! BTW, Lighten up guys, It's just a fun toy!

  • our time is the time of one man solo performance, tenori on is like PSP or nintendo but for music, you can perform (not play) musical ideas and have visual effects of what you are performing, music is in the mind of the composers, listeners are supposed to listen.

  • By god, I hope no one thinks this is worthy of being called music. By the end its just a mish-mash of mess. Watch Monome clips if you want to see what talent and a midi keypad device is truly capable of.

  • i just dont see the hype on the tenori-on.. for the price. just no

  • wtf after a while lol

  • Its actually a fabulous instrument - just its creator isn't a musician - have a look at some of fthe other videos

  • it kinda gets annoying after a while

  • If music be the food of love, play on.

    - William Shakespeare

  • It sounded like it was going to explode at one point

  • very Steve Reich

  • Wow !!!, fantastic music, it really sounds like these plastic barbies in the 80s!

The funny thing is that someone actually spent years developing this instead of let's say learn how to play the sax or something ...real instrument

  • What makes the "sax" anymore of an instrument than this?

  • Is this a serious question ?!!

The fact that your breath and fingers have a serious control over the notes and music created. This little gadget is more like a Mario Bros portable 80s computer game where you trigger blip noises from the buttons on its screen.

How can you compare the two ?

I'm pretty sure though that it has much more potential than what has been demonstrated as.

I'm pretty sure that it probably has

  • You can't compare electronic instruments like this with a sax.

At the end of the day, every instrument has it's own nuances and abilities. Sax is great, I love it - but does it lose in comparison to a synth because it can only play one note at a time? Of course not.

What's important is the final result - is the music produced good? In music the ends justify the means. Beethoven playing a Tenori-on is gonna be better than me playing a sax, that's for sure...

  • instrument: A device used to produce music; a device that requires skill for proper use

A saxophone is no more of an instrument than this Tenori-On. It may not sound as good to you, which is your personal opinion, but it still is an instrument.

  • This is not me not likeing this device.

I'm just expressing the fact that the sound itself/composition is almost comical.

The same goes for someone who plays any instrument such as guitar or sax etc badly.

My comment was mainly towards the intepretation of this device rather than the invention itself.

When you spend years developing something like this you really need to put it into context.

  • The guys who created the Simmons electronic drum kits in the late 70s use these drums within specific

music creations. You wouldn't go to a "SImmons electronic drum kit" solo performance.

The same should have happened with the Tenori.

Would you go to a tenori concert listening to a blip solo for 2 hours? Probably not. you would start speaking computer language afterwards using only 1s and 0s instead of real human words!

  • If this inventor wants to be smart then he should play the tenori within other music rather than try to sound like some extraterrestrial creature

    from a 1960s futuristic movie.

Also that tenori is more like an advanced form of a music sampler, pretty much like the AKAI MPC.

Certain buttons trigger certain sounds and the whole thing is govern by the tempo. Sampler and sequencer combined.

  • I could not agree more.

  • cacophony

  • lol i love all the negativity here...so if you like any kind of music...hey fuck em' :D life's too good.

  • music travels in cycles...all that dates it are the instruments available. Imagine being around at the launch of the theremin??? That would scare people too. A good musician will see the best out of anything. Joe Zawinul embraced technology, I bet he'd love this. Wakeman always tried to better the m400's and minimoogs he had. Lee Ritenour and Alan Holdswoth worked wonders with MIDI guitar/synthaxe. The music and creativity NEVER suffered. Bruford's SDX drums too!! dont stay static-evolve

  • I'd like to see what Jordan Rudess could do with this.

  • lol he would probably make this instrument explode because he has a lot more talent than this looping-instrument can handle

  • She that thing is amazing. Sounds like an Apparat song.

  • I would not say NOONE is making good music, but if you think that today matches the 60s 70s or even 80s or 90s, you are dreaming. THe modern generation is flat out the most spoiled, derivative, unoriginal, gutless generation yet when it comes to music. ELectronic innovators are all there is. The band music is a stinking joke. Then again, the music industry is as bad as it's ever been, so good bands can't get anywhere.

Like I said, if you think it compares, you're on class-A ganja.

  • No one has written a good music critique since 1812. If you think so, you are dreaming.

It's not the skill, talent, originality or anything like that will matter in the years to come.

I agree that music today can really lick and annoy the heck out of me, but you have to realize that the complaints you are making are exactly the same as the ones made in every generation since the beginning of music in the age of gregorian chanting (which is regarded by many scholars as the birth of music).

  • Indeed, and it's syncromystic with the old witch hunt (check out Sagan's Demon Haunted World). Same concept different subject, or as I like to say, "same shit different weather." :)

  • clearly you just dont listen in the right places. you get music that is innovative in almost every genre. you just have to get through the piles upon piles of terrible music.

  • The Emperors new clothes springs to mind. I'd rather have a Rolf Harris Stylophone.

  • this is going to kill music as we know it

  • music died about 1996, when the presidents killed grunge. In the 80s, we though the best of music had passed, and it pretty much had. Its easier to press a button than to learn to play an instrument, and this is coming from someone who loves to play with all the softsynths and synths. However, I can play a decent keyboard, and I bought a tube amp for my strat. You can't beat analog musicians, plus you get better results much quicker (if you can play).

  • Yeah obviously, because no-one writes good music anymore or plays 'real' instruments.

    Oh wait... yes they do.

There's no sodding 'Golden Age' of music, just nostalgia. Humans naturally pick our the good bits in their heads, leaving behind the forgettable stuff, so the forgettable stuff of recent times is more 'in your face'. Great music will never die, and the bad stuff has been everywhere since music began.

  • @Supersandwich72 the bad stuff is MUCH more rampant as technology increasingly allows poor musicians and non musicians to create more and more elaborate lousy music, however!

  • @emilshere

That is stupid. Everyone can sing or whistle a tune. The sound of music is dependant on technology, but massive production of music is not.

  • @Supersandwich72 Yes. The only difference is that during some periods, the good stuff is on the radio and TV and everywhere, and in other times it's not. But great music is always being made. If you can't find any, you're not looking in the right way.

  • @Supersandwich72 cool story bro, tell it again.

  • around 3:50 got alittle bit anoying

  • starting from 2:20 its good !!!!!!!

  • worse than kaossilator, this fv

  • Well it a demo so he is trying all the function it have

    So it anoying XD

  • ANNOYING!

  • well it was pretty cool till 3:30

When he ruined it and made it more and more annoying.

The product is definitely cool, but this was not a good demonstration of its creator's ability. Unless it's to ruin potentially good songs.

  • that is astounding. it is simply a pad. that gives you access to i'm guessing 400+ different sounds/notes. and it saves the pattern in real time with a constant loop. so you make symphonies in the palm of your hand. if typing doesn't count then count me speechless.

  • whats the type of the display? it shines through to both sides....amazing

  • Wow!!!

  • wow! O_O this is awesome!!!!

  • Assi^^

  • Oh my god this is awesome!!! Me wants :D

  • That's what I call multitasking!!!

  • little boots plays it better!!

  • so true! ^^

  • @godseesnocolour AGREED! that vid with meddle live? she was amazing!!

  • This guy should stick with electronics

  • Check out 'Little Boots' - she is awesome with it.

  • @13111y emilie simon is better with a tenori and her music two...

  • And emilie simon too !!

  • @13111y And emilie simon too !!

  • Cool....

But it seems really hard to play and understand, anyway its cool!

  • aww... 700 quid :(

  • do not worry! give it a couple of years and the price will drop like a fly... and this very model will be SO outdated...

  • jesus christ this is amazing

  • how much they cost?

  • like a grand

  • thk

  • 999$

  • Great piece of kit, reckon I could make something nice with this.

  • "open mind" is the essential for someone who call himself an artist... remember that mozart was called a dumb by small minded musicians...

  • I really can't stand musicians. you guys are 90% douche bag, this INSTRUMENT is new and different. Why don't you "musicians" go back to your jobs at Guitar Center or teaching 12 year olds how to play ro ro ro your boat and stop annoying the shit out of me with your predictable responses.

  • Plaaaaay

  • Sounds like a mess for fuck's sake!!

  • musicians can be ignorant, but they arn't artists if they cant even open their eyes

  • so ya, go be a musician.. and play other people's songs. . .and artist knows how to think of new ways to play music, and they will think of new ways to compose remaining original

  • do you even know how to read? why are you SO PISSED hahahahaha. calling other people's names and cocksucker, u really think your doing some damage eh?

where in your argument saying playing proper instruments backs up what i was saying about remaining original?

you cant think of new ways to compose even if you are a musician.. any artist or musician out there.. use new technologies, what you just record and play your instrument? GOOD LUCK!!

  • also mista spookie, u probably dont even know what a midi controller does, or know what a synth is. go google on how to build a recording studio, or just hire an expensive engineer to work for you..

keep putting thumbs down on me. . it really helps your anger!

i hope you can play your instrument and sing.. somehow you'll become big with JUST THAT.

  • yes, i put in a lot of effort. OH LOOK my two sentences makes sense!

  • there was a win or lose? aww poor you, thinking of ways to better yourself with some random person

well i never thought of it as win or lose! have fun writing your next message.

yes i'm done if thats what you want.

  • Rubbish!

    No Passion!

    No soul!

    No rhythm!

All are same even one guy compose 1000 musics or

    1000 guys composes one music!

  • that shit its annoying.i really hate it !! how can u call music to that noise

  • Look up Little Boot - Stuck on repeat - She used this device and only that device to make her hit single

  • Take the piss all you want she still made it to no1 on the charts showing there is a demand for it and shes making money from it, so out of the 2 of you which one is the fool

You who complains about the invention and is sitting at home doing nothing thats really constructive

or her who is become a celebrity thru her signing abilities and using this device and making money from it

Me personally out of the 2 of you id rather be her

  • No offence intended to you are your entitled to your opinion but I think you would have to accept that the fact shes done well out of it undenyably shows this invention cant be that crap can it if its got 1 woman top of the charts, making loads of money from it

  • i wonder if u could record ur stuff :o

  • Of course you can. If you can output audio though a PA system in front of a crowd of people then you can obviously record whatever sound you make from it.

  • I have cheaper sequencers than that and they have been around for over 30 years. I guess it´s the flashing lights that get em huh...?

  • Can you recommend some that you like?

    Thanks!

  • So which sequencers can you recommend, please? Would be great to get some tips!

  • Yeah, I can't imagine why anyone would opt for this over something like a Monome.

  • haha me either

  • monome is really expensive

  • it's useful for Real music makers who really understand music.

  • I totally agree. This is hardly helpful for a musician. There are simply better things out there that will do the same functions. With less annoyance and more flexibility.

  • on second though... I'll buy it

  • I'm agree....but I just love that "toy"

  • OK, at about 3:50 it gets really over the top. I mean it's a god damn mess.

  • GOOD toy, VERY BAD player

  • Great little instrument. Just wish the price would drop from 1k....

  • it's a seqeuncer, midi controller, and a sampler so technically it becomes any instrument whatsover the creator puts on it plus it has phrase looping capabilities. so i guess it makes sense that it's $1000. sweetet instrument ever

  • Well, if you judge by the capabilities: Yeah you're right. If you judge by the technology and material cost: No, way overpriced. If you judge by the fun factor: Should be WAY more expensive. :)

  • This sounds like it was invented to boost the sale of headache pills - what a racket! Just look at what 'Little Boots' can do with it though - she can magic it into a musical instrument. I haven't seen anyone else come close, just search on here for 'Little Boots' this girl will go far!

  • Its not that bad, its different. Remembers its japanese. What little Boots does pretty straightforward aswell imho...

  • Search for Nortec Collective @ Vive Latino and you will see other uses of it.

  • Its not demonstrated in this video but, the only thing that really appeals to me is how easily you can loop phrases in different tempos. An easy way to create really massive organic soundscapes that are begging to be sampled.

  • I'd say it's more of a sequencer.. I mean, it has virtual instruments on it, but it's not an instrument itself.

  • i totally agree : it's a live sequencer nothing more

  • See Little Boots playing this "toy", very good!

  • Vão se fuder. A galera ainda aplaude uma merda dessas!

  • Great!

    More great innovation at RHYTHMTANDEM.

  • it'd be so much better if it was tuned chromatically....

  • Not really, this way you hit anything and its on key

  • exactly..

which key anyway? if theres just a button or function to "switch" between keys then theres not much space to play, tonally...

but i suppose thats not really what its for..

  • You can pick a number of different scales, including chromatic

  • Great innovation.

For another great innovative musical instrument you have to check RHYTHMTANDEM.

  • whould of made an LCD screan and OS.

  • I know what Bach would have done with this, he'd have shoved it up tosh's iwaaasssii..

  • Takkyu Ishino needs one of those (if he doesn't already).

  • that shit is dope as fuck u dont know what you are talking about

  • my korg x50 cost less than one of those and i know what id choose, my korg x50. But they seem good but for my kind of music these tenoris arent my cup of tea. U can make loops like that in programs like reason anyway so why would anyone wanna spend more money just to have it in a hand held version anyway?

  • its much easier to use that any software. you can do a lot more with this thing in real time.

  • Although this is an achievement in itself, I think more importantly it will pave the way towards something exceptional.

Once you have other than 16 beats and other scale tunings, the musical scope will be enormous.

Great stepping stone none the less!

  • i love this thing! but what he makes in this video isn't any good. this thing is capable of MUCH MORE!

would love to have one :)
