  • The phaser burst on the first encounter are great against the hull but the last few against Reliant used some sort of shock wave effect that just didn't jive. It's so close to movie quality.

  • I would pay to see this.

  • Dude......EPIC CGI WIN!!

  • Someone popular should favorite this so it gets the recognition it deserves.

  • EXCELLENT work, studio-quality cgi... Paramount ought to hire you!

  • Damn fine CGI!

TWOK was, hands down, the best Trek Movie ever. Mazel tov!

  • This is my favourite scene in The Wrath of Khan.

  • Great work, especially on the initial phaser bursts. Those are hard to do correctly.

  • Holy Crap! You even recreated the grain, twinkling stars and blue hue (remnants of the Bluescreen?) from the Original Shots! This is totally comparable to the CGI-Shots made for the TMP-Directors Cut.

  • Dude, again, seriously? Did you really render that stuff? If so, I, frankly, have no idea why they used whoever the hell they used to re-release this movie.

  • Excellent computer graphics though I've often wondered about that saucer section connection if it were hit just right enough with a direct hit would split off I think it's the weakest part of the ship (scifi-show be an excuse of course Star Trek era to keep it though I guess) Khan's obsession with Kirk led to his downfall. I would have simply got kirk at a later time Star Fleet was bound to notice the Reliant had gone missing prior to kirks involvement. What software used Lightwave 3D?

  • If I may quote "Holy Crap on a cracker"....man thas is one awsome looking reboot, now only if the studio would take the hint and make it happen mainstream

  • This is wholly amazing. I am totally blown away.

(slight nitpick: the first shot of Reliant closing seems to have a rather narrow FOV which makes the approach of the Reliant seem very flat. We don't get the sense of zoom like we do in the original FX shot.)

  • Thanks to all the kind words. Some day when I have the time, I will be going back in to do more... Some day.

  • Holy bloody biscuit weasels, man. You did a VERY good job with this. Any plans to be redoing any other rather famous scenes in ST movie history?

  • Whoa! Knocked me out! F***** great job!

  • awesome

  • Awesome man!!

  • Fantastic work..you've done an incredible job!

  • much better graphincs than the original!!

  • Freaking AWESOME.

  • u should do the whole movie :D this is amazing

  • The light and texturing on your models is FANTASTIC! Some of the most realistic CGI I have seen. It'd be cool though if you could make the photos more like the 'shards of light' 'glow' like in ST:TMP and ST:GEN.

GEEZE this is a good movie! :D

  • Amazballs! Just great!

  • you should do the ending battle scene.

  • The light and comp (matching the original look) is very good. I am quite impressed! The VFX impact elements are the only improvement I could suggest really. That first phaser blast from Reliant is stellar. (from Reliant's angle before impact)

  • HOLY. FUCK.

  • Now THIS is excellent film-quality CGI work!!! This is how it's done! Excellent lighting and shading. NOTHING looks cartoony and I actually had to look closely to see if these weren't the actual shots from original film only cleaned up. They really look THAT good!! This is better than what CBS-D did with TOS remastered. Just excellent quality. Job well done!!! :-)

  • LOVE IT! this one of my fave Star Trek Moments!

  • I like how your special effects are better than that JJ Abrams crap

  • A little dark but it is AWESOME. ;)

  • Great job men!!! Truly great job

  • I love the work that you did on this recreation. It is so seamless and flawless that I couldn't tell the difference other than the image looked crisper. It's like watching a HD version of the original scene. You can definitely teach George Lucas on how to redo VFX on a movie from the 70's and 80's.

  • Brill work it's great i would love to see you do the final second meeting between kirk and khan?.

  • Very nicely done. It was hard to tell the difference at points.

  • Superbly done! Like others have said this is extremely faithful to the original movie. Well done indeed! Would also like to see the Excelsior and Enterprise give Chang a good kicking :).

  • Wait a minute - you actually made the models and everything from scratch? I mean, watching it, its identical to the movie, it just looks a lot cleaner and prettier, but its extremely faithful to the movie. Color me impressed as all hell. This is beautiful.

  • I hope you'll consider remaking the battle scene near the end of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. That battle was epic too.

  • Nice job! Good shot for shot recreation there! (And the characters...they look so real! Just kidding!) Nice job on those ships! Far better than I'm capable of right now. :)

  • why does kirk call Saavik Mr Saavik ? and when replying scotty says to kirk "I Lass" ?

  • Great job. Especially at 2:36. The phaser hits have real punch in them now. This is one of the best fan works I've ever seen on YT.

  • You know, I don't think that I've ever responded to a video on YouTube....but I really need to this time....WOW, this piece is INCREDIBLY well done !!!! I'm a HUGE Star Trek fan and the world's BIGGEST nitpicker of videos and this one was very, very well done. Thanks for this, good job!!!

  • I was about halfway in before I saw the 'recreation'. THAT'S how good this is.

  • Very nice.

  • I've been wanting to do special effects computer animation, but the one's I've searched for are either outrageously expensive or are difficult to learn and come with no manuals or learning material such as Blender 3D clearly you're using something expensive my guess either Maya or what I want to get Lightwave 3D 10 from Newtek? Darn I hate being on a budget wise I could afford stuff like this!

  • Awesome Job! looks fantastic!

  • Great job! How bout the final battle in Star trek 6?

  • This is as real as i have see out of all the re-do's on youtube.. your work is outstanding studio quality!!!!

  • Great - I tip my hat at thee!

  • I always liked the miranda class look. If you were gonna build a starship for real it be better than constitution class mainly the impulse engine runs thru it center of gravity unlike the connies.

  • Fantastic Job! If I were making a S.T. movie I would hire you. The lighting on the ships comes off great on the camera. In the original movie if you watch the nacels on the reliant on certain scenes the black sections actually have background stars within them. Nice improvement.

  • Awesome man love it man. Peace DJ(UNITE)MC - UK.

  • wow, this is absolutely amazing, better than the actual models! You should do this for a living!

  • NICE work. Impressive. Most impressive. :)

  • In this movie the reliant is a powerful ship but in every other startrek the miranda class is weak as crap.

  • @mcfuson37 its because rick berman hated the miranda class after he saw wrath of kahn so whenever he put that ship in the tv show or movies, he destroyed it usally in a violent way.

  • Hey! I've watched this video and the one you made after this and I just wanted to say EXCELLENT WORK! You've really done a fantastic job on these models, it really looks like it could have been done with the original models (though that would probably lead to the same arguement @davidfuchs is making!) However I will say that I much prefer the lighting on this version, the other version looks a bit high on the gain, otherwise awesome work!!!

  • Wonderful! :)

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • I have the collector edition of the wrath of Kahn an I never see this scene with that quality. Thanks from Venezuela Live Long And Prosper!!!

  • The portion your video featuring the first few shots the Reliant fires at Enterprise looks great.

    @2:36

The phaser fire seems to really dig into the Enterprise hull with more ferocity than what I remember seeing in the original film.

  • Outstanding!

  • Excellent work! I really enjoyed this!

  • I TOTALLY apologize, I was trying to click off of another window and hit the dislike by accident. Is there a way to de-dislike something?

  • I bow before your work! Truly great!

  • Comment removed

  • If memory serves while Reliant is circling the Enterprise while she is in in front of her the Enterprise keeps her nose pointed at her as the Reliant goes from Left to right yet in your vid 5:23 -5:26 she is dead in the water. True? or am I mistaken either way nice touches looks good.

  • i miss scotty.... :[

  • I have to say you have done an amazing job on this video, the VFXs are fantastic and as a huge star trek fan they are even better than the originals.

I look forward to many more!!

  • awesome job! are you gonna do the nebula fight?

  • awesome job! are you gonna do the nebula fight?

  • real great work...top props.

have you tried doing anything on your own? meaning just a space battle of your own design, maybe even ships of your own design? if you did I would love to see it.

  • They look real, that has to be the highest complement possible.

  • Great work!

  • not bad

  • looks better than what the ilam would make. you should start your own cgi company charge half as much as the big guys they be beating your door down.

  • Nothing like the ole lady Enterprise, my favorite ship. As Scotty would put it... "No bloody A, B, C, or D!" Or E for that matter either...hehe.

  • TWOK REMASTERED! Excellent job!

  • That is incredible..indistinguishable from original..

  • wow... very slick... totally geeking out... as i was watching I was going thru all the information in my head.case in point, think that in shot 7:23? the brigde of the reliant was the set for original brigde of the enterprise.(in the show.)khans "crew' was over 200 yrs old when we saw them, does anyone know what class reliant was, cannot remember.

  • @TheReboot70 The Reliant was a Miranda Class vessel :)

  • Dude! Excellent!

Especially the "brown trousers" moment when Reliant just skimmed Enterprise's hull.

  • This is damn good. Very good. Very close to the original too which makes it really cool!

  • great cleanup of effects, The movies effects were great as is, they just needed a little cleaning, excellent job!!!!

  • Amazing.

  • Kick ass.....it was better then the original..of course almost 30 years of FX Technology have gone by allow this to happen. Well done! I'm sure it wasn't easy.

  • Awesome! i hope you have more on the way :D

  • 1 Kligon disliked the video.

  • Rolliba, execellent job. There are some parts in the scene where the starships looks more realistic than the model. Very good.

  • I didn't see what was changed. :/

  • You did a great job--so great that it points out how replacing motion control models with CG doesn't really make much sense unless you do something with the ships the models couldn't :P

The job on matching the slightly dark and "degraded" look of the real models is pretty great--they don't feel like plastic. :)

  • excellent quality

  • Very impressive! I'd love to see more.

  • Agree, fantastic job.

  • DAMN good job! Utterly professional and seamless!

  • Well done! Paramount/CBS ought to be calling you very soon for future Star Trek remastering projects.

In the meantime, perhaps you can lend an FX hand over at "Star Trek Phase II". They've fallen way behind their quota of one "webisode" a year. They could sure use somebody like you. Excellent work.

  • Real nice! I was going to say the original effects needed nothing (which i still believe look pretty awesome by the way) but this is really good and only enhances the original stuff. Perfect lighting as well! Beautiful!

  • ASTOUNDING work! Do you realize that this is exactly how it would look if this movie were made today, with cgi instead of models. I salute you... This is SO accurate that it's almost unbelievable, it must have been very time consuming and came from someone dedicated, gifted, and a true genius (not to menchan photograhic memory,Lol!). I'm a true connesuir of this movie and am highly impressed! Liked, Favorited and subbed (with friend request) also sending my own work on it to you.

  • Judging from all the blues on the console and colors of the live action footage, you used the Blu-Ray version of the live footage didnt you? Anyways your VFX are great. I always thought they should go back and at least edit in the damage from "Search For Spock"

  • 1st class graphics, this is why the should remake the origional four movies with those kind of garphics. It would look amazing

  • That is one of the best Remakes I've seen truely well done......

  • That is one of the best Remakes I've seen truely well done......

  • Outstanding! The details on both ships is mind-blowing and I really loved the phaser fire.

  • Masterfully done. The phaser effects in my opinion make or brake the realism of a video, yours were incredible!

  • Thanks All. I didn't do anything on the Live stuff, just edited it in.

  • That was awesome.

  • Masterful!!! 5/5

  • You rock!!!

  • Now THIS is good stuff! Spectacular work! Your VFX look awesome, as do the live-action scenes. Did you run some kind of enhancement on them as well? I've never seen them look so crisp and clear. Beautiful!

  • Thank you.

  • I tell ya models with a little bit of Special vfx is awesome! Great job!

  • I am very impressed bu this recreation, but I don't really care for those shock-wave rings that occur during the phaser hits. Personally I think it would look better without them.

  • my gawd the clarity, resolution is perfect. Please, you have to re-do the whole movie!

  • Thanks Jetfreak.

  • Brilliant recreation, I am stunned by the attention to detail ^_^

  • Well, thanks again. There is film grain added to the piece, but I kept it somewhat low to match the sharpness of the original film.

  • You did a good job at not making them conspicuously "CGI". If you were to filter/degrade the image to look like film, I'd be fooled...

  • wow just awesome

  • Thanks guys. Somewhere, as time permits I will be ding some more vids certainly. I'm kinda in a comping frame of mind.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • That was superb, the models are amazing work and the phaser effects and explosions are great as well. I hope you will do more videos.

  • I'm supposed to be going to work, and now all I want to do is sit down and watch the movie!

Beautiful work Roliba. I don't think I've ever seen an equal to this work.
