I lived in Manhattan, Ks during my childhood on Stagg Hill. I have never seen a Tornado, but remember once in second grade - we had a tornado warning at 2:30 in the afternoon. The sky turned a completely eerie dark/black purple color, it suddenly looked like night time. I wanted to go home so bad to be with my mother. I will never forget that day. If I had to stay in kansas for any reason; I don't think I could sleep, unless I was at least in the basement..LOL! I've lived in Ca. for 30 yrs.
my sister was at band camp at k-state university and it was the last night. she was scared as fuck and my parents and me were whatching the wheather until it was over.
I heard about that. My husband is at Ft Riley and was in California training during that, so I was in Olathe. haha I've lived in KS my whole life and never seen a tornado. There hasnt been on in Olathe for over 30 years. Now im in Junction city while he's deployed and Im scared to death for this spring XD
I'm glad that shit missed our house. We live about 4 blocks from where it crossed Denison and College Heights. From the cellar, I couldn't see anything but pounding rain, but for about 20 seconds I could hear the howl as it passed.
I think it weakened up some before it passed us because most of the damage was done to power lines and fallen trees. I've been looking for an indication of the damage done further east, like IN campus, but it seems like the south part of town got it worst.
I lived in junction city when this happened, although it was in Manhattan, still too close for comfort for me.
