ascending and descending is a classical concept, that's not so used anymore. but i think it would be ascending (1-2-b3-4-5-6-7). try using other notes of that scale as the tonic as you would do church modes in relation to the major scale.
So it makes the guitar sound like a wind instrument when breathing and when stop breathing it bypasses the signal ?

mostly modes of the melodic minor scale. don't rip him off too much though, it's hard not to.
