Cliff was really big in the U.S.,actually hung out with him a few times,super nice guy.In reference to this song,Fabian Forte recorded this originally,and performed it on American Bandstand,by the way,The Shadows recorded Apache first,but got shafted by the big wig recording companies over here in the states,so typical, Russ Hamilton was a dear friend as well, always loved British music,yes,even The Beatles,lol.Sincerely,The Original Chevelles.

Cliff's version really kicked but American record labels were not interested in promoting British acts because they felt that American audiences weren't interested. Prior to 1964, even the Beatles were turned down repeatedly by Capitol even though Capitol was owned by EMI, And the Beatles were already big in the UK and Europe. It was only after Beatlemania hit the US in 1964 that American labels took an interest in British acts.

My dear, you don't compare Cliff to Elvis in this song, compare him to Fabian who sang the original version. Elvis don't move like that. When I was your age I thought Elvis was the most handsome man in the world because he really was. And you know Fabian was also very good looking. Much later I became a Cliff fan, too.

You're right, Fabian's version was terrible and his others songs, too, it's because singing was not his forte. Well right now I'm listening to Doris, singing Bothered and Bewildered, she's the singer being featured now on the radio program that I listen every afternoon.
