I wonder why u didnt simply buy Massilla? As far as I can tell you have enough money to offer them.. Or isnt this possible in RTW yet? In M2TW I keep buying more and more regions, because I have so much money to offer.. Saves me quite a lot of military trouble, while still constantly expanding my empire..
Also, your Brihentin got mauled, it's generally a good idea not to let any component of your army get broken when they have to go a long ways to be retrained. As romans, you'll generally have a large reserve of units, certainly enough to just pull some calv out and replace with a principe. It's also a lot closer to retrain Principe than Brihentin.
@stingray970, true but I always keep a few replenishment units on the campaign map for my auxilia nearby so that I can simply merge my units with new ones if they get too low.
@pimpin702101 Then I'd say you were very lucky, normally I use Elephants to smash those units like Hastati and they never repel my elephants nor kill any. Anyway to prove my point, here just go to gamespy or any other that says the elephants weaknesses in RTW(since I'm not able to post links here).
@wintersnoob it depends on the mod. It also depends of the situation. Of course, if the elephants are bogged down, spears are the best. But if not, (mounted) javelins throwers are your best choice. Then again, it depends if they get the "bonus vs. elephants" trait, if they're AP, both the skirmisher and the elephant stats, etc. That's the beautiful thing of TW games: you'll almost never find a unit that will always beat another (unlike other RTS's)
@wintersnoob, i never fight with elephants if I can help it. I usually make them run amok with javelins & fire arrows before they hit my line which I forgot to do in this battle. If they hit my line, I just mob them with any infantry I have sword or spear, while shooting them with missiles, it's usually enough. They're very easy to scare. You're right, hastati and principes javelins aren't great against elephants, but javelin troops like velites work very well.
@pimpin702101 But heavy javelins in RTW are not that good against elephants. You may notice that even Principes have difficulty taking down a single elephant.
@aceblazer25 Well... the romani dossent have very good cav... so if you hold a good strong Maniple formation, cavalry has NO CHANCE of making rear charges... which leaves your mediocre cav to attack them in the back while they are occupied by the triarii
I seriously think you had a bad strategy there. To attack Carthage without decent spearmen units is something really mad. For instance, their armies are mostly composed of strong cavalry and elephants plus the Phalanx units.Against those Phalanx I would use some heavy armoured spearmen and let them clash for a bit(not rushing them) while a unit of srdsmen flanks & anhilates them. For the elephants I would use 2 strong spearmen units/phalanxes but separated from the main army in case they go amok
@wintersnoob, historically Rome relied on its core of heavy swordsmen, so that's what I'm doing. I use my pedites extraordinarii, and other auxilia troops to do the flank assaults like they would have done in real life. For elephants, light javelin units like velites mixed with archers is more than enough to make them rout.
@samttolainen Just because they made total conversion, that doesn't mean they turned Rome Total War into Empire Total War, which is at least 6 years older. So the awnser is: nop.
@loloferrero21XD, it's 190 BC, that's basically two RTW vanilla games done with the 4 turns per year script. Most of my cities are huge populations with lots of buildings. Spain & Asia Minor has lots of mines, and Greece is excellent for trade. 5 full stack armies are nothing at this point, later on I have to raise lots of navies and bribe everyone so that my finances don't get too big. xD
@Nationalist83833 I want rome 2 or earlier period or if possible a full 2000BC to 2000AD campaign if that was atall possible with the resources they have at CA
@BenFosterism 2000BC to 2000AD will imply the need for settlements to "appear" once in a while and also factions be randomly created from nowhere...all this would require tons of material. That still isn't possible. Unless you want to play a game that occupies your entire computer.

Hey Aceblazer, whats the name of the mod you use to change the carthaginian and eastern hellinic city models on the campaign map?
crackshack2 4 months ago
@crackshack2, sorry I don't think it's an official mod. I only got it because a friend gave it to me. I'm not sure where to actually download it.

EB should give Triarii a secondary weapon like a gladius when they engage infantry

I remember first time I played EB I camped out until 242 so I could destroy everyone with the reformed units.
Needless to say, I was incredibly pissed when Hastati and Principes gained one defense, and Triarri losted some.

@stingray970, yep the biggest advantage though is that the area of recruitment increases nicely.

Spearmen are still the best against Elephants.

@pimpin702101 Please don't use the word "pila" because in my language it means "dick" and I just laugh on your face(literally) ;)
Triarii use (in the game) spears not javelins. At least in realism they didn't use javelins.

what kind of roman commander are you?! ._.
