be cool to have built in vending machines for a snack / water along the trip. It must get tiring. Also, what if somebody pukes in it? Gets it sweaty or goes #2?? In all seriousness.
@oldtimegamelover In fairness, if someone does any of those things in a car, or on current forms of public transportation, or on their bikes, then I'd imagine it wouldn't be particularly pleasant.... doesn't seem any more likely on a shweeb. However, the idea is that the pods would be taken out of rotation at stations to get "sanitized" when passengers disembark, and there'd be a surplus of them to keep things running smoothly.
Imagine if it was totally gravity powered the length & breadth of the country (if at all possible)...able to turn off into every town...with stairs or a vertical chairlift going up & down the middle of the framework that supports the track to the arrival/departure station...able to withstand extreme weather...room for a backpack...able to adjust ventilation and shading as required, and cheap as chips...what a wonderful world it might be!
@AidenCarlez Yeah, I like my mountain bike, too. What this is really about is inner city transportation. A system like this in a city would be a lot safer than riding in traffic. You could go faster than a bike and not have to slow down for traffic. You could probably get from one place to another faster than a car that has to deal with stop lights. Google just gave these guys a million dollars to develop this for transportation. It's a great idea.
that would be truly an astounding thing if shweeb transitioned from a ride to a popular form of transportation but i don't doubt that this could be done in a matter of years.
@joshuroy21 But assuming more than one person uses the monorail at the same time....how would you pass slower people? What if someone decided to just stop? You're completely at the mercy of those in front of you.
Actually, the design allows for multiple pods to sync up, and the nature of the pods is such that the pods behind can push the front pod forward. They also have discussed implementing viewing platforms where pods can 'pull over' for a break, a lunch, photos, etc.
Brilliant design, in my opinion. And like everything, it will have bugs that need to be worked out..but it's a step in the right direction.
I'm not sure, The rail is totally enclosed except for a small gap on the underneath side. I will alert the owner/inventor to your comment and see if he can respond/contact you directly. I'm glad you like the video.
Hi I had a similar idea, I was also thinking it would be good to have it detach and become just a regular bike. Is there any way of have more detail vid of the inner working of the rail.
That would be an interesting idea... I ride a recumbent trike to work already. check out my commute video. It would be fun to make something that could ride the rail like this and be independent too! Love the video. I wish I was in NZ to try it out! They need to build one of these at Disneyland or in Las Vegas!
Haha, I managed 1:03 on my first try. So much fun but it kills your quads!

Extraordinary "carbon reduction" invention!
How can its speed be such fast!!! O.o
My vertigo now?
I see the rider's leg stretches out the "bike" at 1:57.

It would have the same problem bike hires currently have: units will pile up at certain stops and leave others without any units

Mmmm... a softer seat? I read that is better to put the cab on the rail, not under.

How do you stop? And how do your avoid collision?
I hope track doesn't cost too much.
This is definitely fun for parks and recreation, etc. What about for transportation in big cities? May be they should use bicycles!
