I've always heard that Neurosis was a huge influence on Mastodon. Having listened to this, I can definitely see it it. Especially the stuff on Remission.
Cool song, esp. the part starting at around 4 mins, but I really love the the cover art. The way the picture here is all washed out and blurry actually makes it work even better.
I have seen Neurosis every time they have come to Seattle, and they played this song in their set-list at the 12/30 show. Well the monster riff that happens at about 3;20, was absolutely the HEAVIEST thing I have ever heard in my entire life. I have heard the song countless times before but, LIVE the guitar tones of Von Till and Kelly, absolutely severed heads. Im still traumatized by what went down, AMAZING!
@NOodleFISH72 I was at the 12/30 show, only. Neurosis was supported by Black Breath and Wolves in the Throne Room. YOB played the 12/31 show, only. However, I am seeing Neurosis w/ YOB on 9/10 in portland, ill let ya know how they are live.
@jkolash- You are 100% right. I saw this back in...98?(when it was new) and that riff brought the fucking roof down. I was in the front row, and remember thinking "If I was holding a flower, it would INSTANTLY WILT". You could FEEL the sound cutting through and moving your organs around and shit. I've felt the "trauma" too, & I LOVED IT. I took an exgirlfriend to the show, and she was completely speechless afterwards, unable to process what she'd seen. My Youtube name says all
@Hodgeon46 I like Neurosis , but sorry to say theirs a lot that come to par with that riff as far as being heavy and dark are. You must not listen to much music if you really believe theirs nothing more dark or heavy then that.
@Zeldabo146676 People have different definitions of what is dark or heavy. In terms of atmosphere, nothing can match the apocalyptic feeling that Neurosis can create.
no dude, that's kind of gay. If that's the first image that come's to your mind, I'd be worried. I'm just fucking with you, don't get pissed. I'd hate to know what image this comment brought to your mind!
The crunch of the main guitar lick on this song sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. Steve Albini (producer) is a master, and I bet he had a lot to do with it. I prefer the album "Through Silver and Blood" but this is my favorite Neurosis song. Makes me see the world in ruins. KNow what I mean? Anyone on the same page as me?
Oh yes, I can imagine myself floating above earth as humanity tears itself asunder then the clouds cover the carnage (the mellow bits of the song) and then when the main riff kicks back in the clouds disperse and I can see the hell below once once more hahaha. Neurosis are something special indeed.
@alejandro15187 I was only saying the other day that the timbre of the guitar isn't to dissimilar to the sound created by Albini (particularly) in Shellac. glad to see more people appreciating Albini's phenomenal talent
