  • I love how back then there were very small differences between a recorded song in the studio, and the band doing it live, for an example, this, and black eyed peas live at the super bowl this past year...

  • One of my fav versions, love the double-downbeat. Wish I could play it louder!

  • Great song.

  • This is perfectly ghastly. These guys should have O.D'd a long time ago.

  • @localcrew It's not the best, but you're not funny. Try again.

  • @youhavegeniusshins Wasn't trying to be funny. It's just bad, bad, bad performance art. Was that a good enough try for you? You're welcome.

  • them 4 are doing more than a fine job!!! I don't think they'd have much appreciated a perfect drummer anyway. He suits the band more than fine, that's a reall They sound raw and just perfect.

  • Great song...cool band!

  • quit hating on the drummer he is standing up while playing, which is suprisingly hard to do if you've never tried before tough to balance. But even with that said there has never been great drumming on this song

  • why would ya diss one of the best english bands ever.....La's are sweet as fuck.......

  • nice band ...awesome song....cool footage

  • That drummer is rubbish.

  • @sariver73 why?

  • @sariver73 I'm no drummer but even I can admit that's amateur stuff. Christ, you'd have thought The La's could have done a bit better in getting a drummer.

  • @MrRascasseman The guy on drums is a lad called Jasper, Lee's best mate, he was sticksman with em back in '85 when they were just getting going. He got called up at short notice, they mention it at the end of the Timeles Melody clip from Glasto. Like you say though, it seems as if he hasn't actually played drums much in 20 yrs! Saw them play at the V Festival in Stafford and they were stunning, not many people watching them unfortunately.

  • stone roses meets REM.. gotta love the la's

  • This is one of my favourite songs, but it's a shame he didn't pick a guitarist who could actually play the riff properly

  • @Voodoochile316 its a pity they couldnt find a drummer to play drums properly and all....

  • I would have even braved 3 days in that bogless hellhole to see The La's. They are one of the great bands, up there with Nirvana and The Who.

  • I think you'll find that Noel Gallagher based his entire image on Johnny Marr.

  • @FelixMerchant - And I always thought that Liam wanted desperately to be Ian Brown of Stone Roses. Liam will never come close to his genius, however.

  • @bfall66 Yeh I thought that liam wanted to be ian brown. i saw a photo of liam the other day in the full adidas tracksuit with sunglasses. its slightly embarrassing how much he wishes he was ian brown.

  • I had a wisdom tooth still at 42. very impacted, had to have it cut out and part of my jaw bone ground off in order to retrieve it, did'nt do a think to my voice. What was that suppose to do with the voice? YOu get older yuou just can't hit higher notes, I can't sing period, but I can't hit notes now that I could when I was 20. It just changes again just like a guys voice does at puberty, men do have a menopause change like women, just in different ways.

  • nah love, Noel Gallagher looks like lee mavers.

he'll be the first to admit he ripped them off...now he wouldn't actually, too smug!

  • lead singer looks like noel gallagher

  • omg. it's clarissa from clarissa explains it all!

  • yeah haha

  • Melissa Joan Hart hasn't been Clarissa in 13 years.

    Come on now.

  • its funny but for 50 lee sounds pretty good, despite being fifty and having tetanus. the reason he wont make more Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

    Cache-Control: max-age=0

terial is because he's too old! and the tetanus really damaged his vocal chords

  • He isn't 50 and doesn't have tetanus, he had a wisdom tooth and he was 42 when this happened

  • lol the lead singer looks like austin powers

  • this songs shit compared to most of their other songs, Was it something i said < thats their best , too bad it wasnt published :(

  • somethin i said is amazin!

  • so....this is better than SNTR?? ok i know that the original version is from them but...come on......is not that awesome on them

  • this is probably the best version.

  • i respect the fact that la´s were the originals but i prefer the version with the lady

  • Out

  • so what is going on with the la's these days, are they still touring or was this a one-off thing?

  • I remember this gig. As I recall the drummer had been suffering from a very bad case of the Farmer Giles. Apparently he stood up for the whole of the tour.

  • The original drummer was the best. Very unusual drumming style. This one's a joke! Sit down, la!

  • what he has got on microphone?? it looks like lamp.. lol?

  • it´s called a green bullet, used for harmonica

  • its one of them 40's bbc broadcaster mic's..he insisted on usin em all the time apparently!

  • Oh shit even Spider Man attended!

  • He might not be as good as 15+ years ago, but he's got my respect for not making a lame attempt to lip synch. Leet song!

  • The drug rumour is denied by Paul Hemmings the La's ex-guitarist in Macefield's "In Search of The La's : A Secret Liverpool". But it was written by Mavers so we'll have to wait to see what he says. Which will be a long wait.

  • Drummer's wearin' a Reni hat xD

  • Awesome ...

Now, Lee, please don´t go all JD Salinger on us.

    Cheers

  • Wat was that thing on top of the lead singer's mic?

  • A microphone typically used for harmonica.

  • The drug reference is blindingly obvious; "pulsing through my veins", "chasing down my lane", "she calls my name", "can't contain this feeling that remains".

    Great tune though !

  • skiffle

  • I hope Mavers gets back together, and realizes his ultimate goal: To re-record their debut album, for the umpteenth time, on a mixing desk with "aunthentic 60's dust" on it. :-D

I came across them late, obviously, like a lot of us American morons. Radio over here isn't as quality...pretty much gone crap all over the world now though. But back then, for a brief bit, there were flashes of brilliance. *sigh*

  • it is obviously about heroin.... "there she goes, there she goes again, pulsing through my veins".... that's the most clear reference...

  • i dont get how this song relates to drugs, anyone care to explain? :)

  • Speaking from the colonies, it must be tough to be known for just one song. But as we say in Las Vegas, that is the way the chips fall.

  • Yeah this song isnt about drugs. I know chose not to belive me if you want but then you're wronge. Hey does anyone know who the guitarist is?

  • jay lewis, from huyton like lee n the drummer jimmy

  • Cheers man!

  • the guitarist on the right of the screen is John POwers who was the lead guitarist with cast, they were great!

  • scouse mystic

  • maximike1989-your wrong mate beleive me

  • Classic,thanks for posting.

Lead singer is a dead ringer for a younger version of Lou Reed.

Can't get enough of this tune

  • he is a cracker

  • its beautful

  • to the guy who said how much drugs did he do, the songs about fucking heroin, nobhead

  • i think the chords are G, D, C9, AM, C.

  • Anyone know the chords to this? is it g d c

  • Yes, and Am.

And once Em in the bridge.

  • hes alrite 4 a blue nose lol om one ov the best songs ever

  • hes ad more brown than elton johns ass

  • he sounds awfull now, looks it aswell how much drugs did he do?

  • You can't really use that as an example though- he's always looked a bit of a scally, even before he was on skag.

  • considering his age he looks quite young, and you can't see half his face, also any song with falsetto notes in are very hard to sing perfectly, especially live

  • Lee Mavers/John Power - LEGENDS!

  • a true Evertonian! go Lee.

  • Clearly the best of the 90's

  • tears in my eyes

  • Whether live or on video - a brill track!!

  • its not a rock n roll song.its a pop song and its the perfect pop song ever written since the beatles kinks etc

  • Possibly the greatest rock+roll song ever written.

  • Ah man, this song brings back so many memories of a time that doesn't seem like it was 10 years ago.

  • Fashion is temporary, greatness is permanent
