  • Your going to destroy you gun. You never ever ever change direction of the brush while its still in the bore. Make sure it passes all the way through or you WILL destroy your rifling.

  • Great Video. Thanks for the info.

  • cool vid. do you have any laser sights for xd.

  • What would you clean your barrel with that metal brush. XDM already comes with brush which is not metal but its like plastic.

  • looking to buy this gun soon looks easy to strip. clean than most guns ive seen thats not the only reason though i hear its very accurate and i like the design its nice

  • I've found that having a can of CO2, (keyboard dusters, etc..) is a tremendous help with those small spaces in the back of the slide, where the extractor is. Helps get rid of all the residue after its been broken up.

  • Thank you! I am a new gun owner, and just purchased this gun a few days ago. In this video you answered all my questions about cleaning. I appreciate it.

  • Thanks every how often should i clean and oil mine? I just put 200 rounds threq my xd9 is it good to clean it now or wait??

  • You should clean you gun on four occasions: (1) when the gun is new; (2) after you use it; (3) once a month if it is in storage; and (4) as needed (i.e. you drop it in a puddle of mud).

  • LOL the only gun I have that's easier than my XD to clean is my AK. Great gun all the way around.

  • what cleaning kit is that???

  • its a cheap kit from kleenbore for handguns its a nice little starter kit

  • I am a big fan of the bore snake myself.

  • on the .45 xd the spring isnt held in place so be careful when field stripping the .45

  • VERY helpful...thanks!

  • Very helpful. Thanks!

  • Good video. Thanks for providing...

  • I read somewhere that u should''t drop any oil in that first hole u mentioned as that is a sort of release vent for all the heat and pressure generated when fired. if it gets gummed up it wont due its job and all the pressure and heat will release out the back of the gun right in front of your face! True or false?

  • yea it is a relief hole you don't want fill it up with oil but just a very small drop doesnt hurt and you should check it every time you taken it down as far as blowing back in your face i don't think it would the only pressure that would be created in the would just be from the firing pin moving in the hole which wouldn't be much

  • just a lil piece of information, the service model and sub compact have the same slide spring assembly but the tactical model is different and if your not careful when re assembling the slide if you place the spring in wrong you take the chance of getting the slide stuck.

  • thanks

  • Also, do not use too much oil. This is important because the oil can gum up very badly if not well taken care of. No matter what ammo you shoot, it is dirty to some extent.

You shouldn't need to oil it every time, either. I would go about every 1000 rounds before full clean and oil, but this is personal preference.

  • When using the brush, you want to have solvent on the brush, or already in the barrel. I use a solvent soaked patch first, then brush. Also, when using the brush, push it all the way through, then pull all the way back. Don't change direction inside the barrel.

It is NOT oil, it is solvent. You generally only oil the inside of your barrel if it is going to be stored for an extended period of time.

Cotton swaps are bad. It can catch on metal parts and leave bits inside. Use an old toothbrush.

  • Has anyone tested to see how dirty you can allow this gun to get and it still works?

Just curious, but how much shooting can you do before the XD gets unreliable?

  • Very Helpful video. Thanks for making it.

  • dont you think a little bore cleaner on the brush will help loosen the grim ? I think it does. Also acts as a lubercant.

  • yes, it does

  • This is awesome!!! I am getting my xd 40 tommorow and was wondering on how to clean it... You rock right on!!!

  • Wonderful video! Just got my XD .45, and this is exactly what I needed.

  • Awesome video, You even have the exact same cleaning kit that I do :)

Just came home with my XD45 today after the waiting period :D

(of course my cleaning kit is for a 45) :p

  • Thanks for the great video! I just shot and cleaned my brand new XD for the first time today. Thanks

  • Thanks for this helpful video. I just got a dx April 10th. I can't wait to clean it and shoot targets.

  • 2 questions. first what kind of kit are you using? second, how often should i clean my gun?

  • Comment removed

  • thanks a lot! just cleaned my xd for the first time with your help

  • I have the same cleaning kit but I do utilize the brush that comes with it for my XD .45

  • nicely done.

  • thanx

  • Nice video. Very helpful, thank you.

  • 1:54 you state that it's important to always clean the barrel from the breach end, but then you pull the brush back out through the breach end after scrubbing back and forth within the barrel. Doing that, it does not matter which end you clean from. You clean from the breach end is so that you go in the direction of the round. Push the brush all the way through and then unscrew it from the rod and pull the rod back out. Then screw it back on and push it forward through the barrel again.

  • yeah, I noticed that as well.

OP, thanks for the video perhaps you could remake though? This vid is a bit dark and angle makes it hard to see what you're doing.

  • you clean from the breach end so that you don't mess up the crown and ruin your accuracy. That is the point of not going in from the front. Does this answer your question or did I not understand what you mean?

  • yes that is exactly right thank you

  • Thank you very much. This video helped me clean my XD9 for the first time.

  • Nice job. Love that gun.

  • Great video! Thank you for posting.

  • good video thanks.
